The Satellite Santa Monica

I left this location after realizing my computer was being hacked. Warning to all entrepreneurs: make sure you have a VPN connection when working at these coworking spaces! Even then I wouldn’t log into any important sites like your bank etc.

The reply is a twisted lie. Last minute notice to ask me to move happened several times after this review and my 30-​day notice of cancellation. Once right after I found a desk, Jessica showed up and said «Someone just called and reserved the room». She added thank you and sorry to her vocabulary, which seems like an improvement, but her way of doing things hasn’t changed at all.
I gave 30-​day notice, but the work environment was so poisoned I didn’t use it much at all in the last month. And guess what, after she put the final invoice on my credit card, she still charged me two more months. I had to dispute through my credit card and email her to fix that. She said it was because Barbara entered my billing info to another location by mistake.
Lies, excuses, repeat, shame on you.
Would you take your work to a place managed by someone like that? Think carefully before you do.

Nice location. Great set up. If I lived in the area, I would pop by more.
However from what I seen and hear holding about an event here, is anther story. The lady needs to work on her professional mannerism.

As a young entrepreneur that manages a remote team with occasional interns joining from time to time, it was essential for me to work from a place that has:
1) fast & reliable internet that’s able to service a full room of laptops and mobile devices. Fiber baby!
2) meeting rooms that I can rent on an as-​needed basis
3) free coffee to keep me awake during my weird startup hours
4) a group of similar-​aged, like-​minded individuals who are up for a game of beach volleyball or drinking after a long day
5) free all-​day street parking nearby
6) a variety of food options within walking distance
7) a shower — I owe my lunchtime boogie board adventures and dusk beach runs to my ability to smell fresh afterwards
But the space excels mainly to the people managing it. Jess/​Jay makes sure that I get a nice smile and a wave when I enter the office each day. They keep the space friendly and fun and organize events that bond both the internal community as well as the greater startup community.

This has been my first experience in a co-​working space and I’m LOVIN’ it. Walking in to this office always has a very pleasant, light and airy feel. The people are extremely friendly and the open «café» space, of which I’m a member, is bright and sunny and never too overwhelming with hustle and bustle– a really chill vibe. I’ve found that it’s really conducive to meeting new and awesome people I’d never interact with otherwise, but everyone is definitely mindful of each other’s space and people keep largely to themselves, very low-​key.
The space is great in that it gives you a great deal of variety– the café space, and then a more noise-​free upstairs lounge with really comfortable furniture, breezy balconies, a great-​sized conference room, and private offices. The overall population of people working there has that «just right» size where it’s never too many, and I like just seeing the subtle ebb and flow through the week. I might also mention there are a good deal of individual freelancers in the space but I’m with an organization that has two members plus a seasonal rotation of 2 – 4 interns using the café space and it’s always worked out great for our purposes and our size.
Jay and Jess, the receptionists and managers, are just craaazily sweet and friendly and super helpful with anything you need and attentive to what’s going on. I love that the space really offers a lot of social opportunities beyond what I would find strictly within my own organization– we all get together for beach volleyball (you can’t beat the location, 1 block away from Venice beach), plus occasional movie nights, meditation nights, and other opportunities to just hang out and get to know your coworkers. Oh, and there’s even an upstairs shower you can dip into if you decided to go on a mid-​day beach run.
I also love the panoramic view out the window from the café space, overlooking this intersection where you can gawk at crazy venice people sauntering by and witness occasional car accidents or hobo fights, all in blissfully detached silence. Big plus for me personally.
There are times when I’d love to just be able to pick up a call at my desk in total privacy, but I can usually head out to a balcony or other space and be just fine, and you know what you’re getting with a co-​working space anyways, don’t you?
So yes, I’m a huge fan, and with not really all that much coming to mind in the «could be improved» category, I’m just gonna go ahead and give this a 5. Check it out (they can always give you a guest pass to try the space out for a day).

This is the best co-​working space in Los Angeles that I have been to. Period. Granted I have not been to all, but have been to most of them, almost all on the west side. Being so picky, I’ve really taken my time to explore all of them before deciding on Satellite Santa Monica. My reasons are:
— Two whole floors of co-​working space, this gives you lots of space to work, and a variety of sofas, stools, office chairs, desks, ottomans etc. to get comfortable at.
— One floor is a regular co-​working space and the other one upstairs has library rules so you can have a very quiet space to work. You have a choice.
— Both floors are very sunny, and both floors have gorgeous balconies with seating outside so you can eat lunch, take phone calls, or work outside at your leisure while enjoying the ocean breeze
— Oh, did I say the beach is a block away?
— Availability of desks, offices, bungalows as well as co-​working space gives you so many choices
— SUPER friendly and accommodating people work here. I CANNOT begin to describe how friendly, thoughtful, accommodating and considerate Jessica and Jay are. They go out of their way, repeatedly, to make sure you have a comfortable experience working here. Honestly, you can usually expect that kind of treatment at a good 5 star hotel, but not usually at a co-​working space!!!
— Staff are friendly but also very professional
— This place is super affordable and I think they have great plans to help your business get started with affordable starting rates. Value is top-​notch for what you get.
— Space is clean and attractive.
How this compares to other co-​working spaces:
— Some co-​working spaces in Santa Monica have a strange snobby vibe, Satellite just doesn’t. It’s very accepting of everyone and everyone who works here seems to be very chill and focused.
— Satellite has two co-​working spaces (quiet and regular), whereas most other places you have to contend with people talking and being on the phone at all times and you don’t have a quiet space to get to.
— No outdoor seating at other co-​working spots that I know of.
— Satellite is better value
— I wasn’t impressed with the chairs at Cross Campus, but the chairs at Coloft are better than here at Satellite, but the chairs at Satellite are still good office chairs.
— Staff is a lot friendlier and more accommodating at Satellite.
Downside:
— Can SOMETIMES get a little chilly, just like any other office.

I LOVE this co-​working space! I’ve been in a ton of different co-​working spaces, and while none of them were bad per se, none of them have vibed with me as awesomely as this place has.
This place is chill, first of all. Has 2 different floors so you can pick the vibe you want. Want a more cozy, living room like atmosphere where you can just focus quietly? Go upstairs. Want a more social environment with a beautiful view of the beach and tons of sunlight? Main floor. Oh, and BOTH floors have awesome balconies where I love taking my phone calls and lunch breaks.
My favorite thing about this place though is the connections I’ve managed to make here. The people who run this place, Jess and Jay, are so damn friendly and I loved kicking it with them inside and outside the office. I’ve also made a bunch of other friends here too. The movie nights, random volleyball hangouts, and just the chill vibe of this place has made it easy to make connections (at least compared to other co-​working spaces I’ve been in).
The only downsides I see are parking and no dedicated phone area. I would always take phone calls on the balcony or stairwell and never really had a problem with it. And as for parking, I always parked on Hampton Dr. and 3^rd Ave. and almost always found a parking spot.
Oh, and I thought the price was great too. It may seem expensive but that’s ALL co-​working places. And this place was cheaper than it’s competition. It made a wonderful second-​home for me to hang out at. I would even come in on weekends and just hang out sometimes… it felt that comfortable to me.
And let’s not forget that the beach is just ONE BLOCK away. Going on an afternoon walk to the beach in just 5 min. has been an amazing benefit of working here. I’m totally gonna miss this place, can’t wait to come back when I return to LA. But go check it out for yourself with a free trial and see if the vibe fits you as well as it did me… and tell them Jaemin sent you and that he misses them!

Almost reluctant to write this review at first, because I wish this could stay the best-​kept secret in Santa Monica/​Venice. Here’s why this place wins: They know how to structure their offerings in a way that competitors in CoLoft, CoWorks, Working Village, etc have not successfully done. Their per-​unit pricing puts them at a competitive advantage, credit to them. Jessica here always bends over backwards to do everything. Everyone here is as accommodating as possible. If I had to give some advice: Keep sights ahead of curve: Demand will grow; plan on increasing your rentable spaces to keep up. Attach sliding doors to the bungalows and up the rents as «mini-​offices.» So far you guys are off to a great start, but don’t be content with it, keep up the great work. I’m pulling for you.

As a professional creative with a breadth of endeavors a focused workspace is invaluable. I am a new father and working from home with a baby is just too difficult. With that being said, the space is great. I love the two floors. The bottom floor has a great open space with a tall arched glass wall looking out to the street. The top floor follows Library rules and is perhaps the best feature for me. I don’t work well with phone calls and mindless chatting like trying to work at a coffee shop.
Not that I’m a Macintosh snob, but it was nice to that everyone there that day was working on a Mac. It tells me perhaps a lot of the clients are creatives and willing to pay a little more for reliability and function (just like me).

Also (not that I’m encouraging it) but since it’s all professionals paying for space here, I felt very comfortable leaving my laptop unattended while I used the restroom.
Not something I would EVER do at a coffee shop.

So, co-​working has kind of exploded in LA and other metro areas. It’s a beginning chapter in the book of entrepreneurship that’s re-​thinking and re-​working the old and helping to – hopefully — usher in the new models that will jump start the entrepreneurial revolution.
Satellite is one of many plays on LA;s toney westside, and it’s very cool. Brand new, I went just after a week’s opening. Parking’s worse than listening to politicians excuse too big to fail bankers, but this IS LA, this is the westside. That aside, it’s a very nice space; spankin’ new, nice postmod design, and all of the amenities; wifi, kitchenette, free coffee/​tea, even a shower. Very nice staff.
My reservation about co-​working is the exorbitant fees. As the economy continues to swing like the sword of Damacles and if things go as they should, prices will settle, or they’ll not innovate and face the same future the old ways are; death.
All in all, with «new» methodologies like Lean, Osterwalder’s Business Model Generator and co-​working (among other far before them such as Schumacher), it’s never been more promising for entrepreneurs. What’s needed is a unified vision that entrepreneurs can access, much as addition and subtraction lead to multiplication and division. Until then this «movement» is only but a revolt, short of but on the path that hopefully we’ll walk to the entrepreneurial revolution that is key to our future.

I can tell you how pleased I am with The Satellite. I needed a place to meet clients and work on the west side when I’m in town without breaking the bank or being in a stuffy office. I love the google office model but it’s a little too causal for me which is why the Satellite is perfect. I get the best of both worlds. Plus the screening room is a super cool perk, the entire place has such a great vibe, one block from the beach and a block from a great Guinness. I’m hooked on the place.

I work in several cities. In LA, The Satellite is base-​station for me. I walk in knowing that everything I need for a productive workday will be provided, seamlessly. And the place is very comfortable. A home-​office away from the office.
