The Clean Bedroom

After posting my experience with The Clean Bedroom, the director of marketing contacted me. His name is Michael.
Firstly, he apologized. He told me that he would refund me the difference.
Secondly, he explained that the store was not doing well because of shipping and freight costs. The company is based on the east coast.
Sadly, the store will be closing, but they are working on doing business here in the future.
He also informed me that one of the reasons the sales girl would not give me the discount was because he was working with them on improving their sales.
I’m wishing them luck and hoping that they will do business on the westside so that we can continue to purchase organic bedding items.
I also wish them better salespersons and marketing strategies. I truly believe that Santa Monica is one of the most progressive communities I’ve been a part of and that their products are a good fit for the need and demand.

I never write reviews, but feel like I should warn people to be prepared for poor service if you purchase from The Clean Bedroom. I purchased an organic king mattress and was quoted delivery in 4 – 6 weeks. However, it’s now been more than double (or even triple) that time and despite repeated calls and emails to customer service, they have been unable to confirm when my bed will arrive. This week they told me my bed was in LA now, but after multiple calls to the delivery service found out that was incorrect. Additionally, they sold me the wrong foundation when I initially purchased and ended up having to pay $ 400+ more for the correct one (they did give me a discount, but it’s still not ideal). I understand that mistakes happen and sometimes furniture can take longer than expected, but the poor communication regarding when it will get resolved has left us very frustrated. I’ve now asked 3x to talk to a manager and my requests are completely ignored. I’d expect more when you purchase a mattress that’s 4x the cost of other mattresses. I have my fingers crossed that I’ll love my mattress (if it ever arrives), but in the future I’d purchase from a different retailer.

Steve was very helpful and knowledgeable. This was the second mattress place we visited after doing weeks of research. We were asked about our special sleeping needs and Steve helped narrow the selection. We purchased our mattress and it took 5wks to arrive but it was well worth the wait. We have had our mattress for 3 weeks now and I’ve never had a better nights rest. My husbands lower back pain is gone and I don’t wake up in the middle of the night. Also, we purchased a latex mattress and it stays nice and cool throughout the night.
*The Clean Bedroom is right across the street from the library so I parked for free there.

I am a mattress novice. It has been over fifteen years since buying my last one and had no idea what to do. Other than wanting a «big girl» bed (i.e. not a double), I was at a loss.
I went to two big name mattress stores. I was shocked how much it felt like buying a car. «What’s your price range? Try this baby out. We can finance you. You wanna buy it today?» What? When did it get like that? There was no real advice to be had even though the salesmen were at least friendly.
Steven knew just what to do at The Clean Bedroom in Santa Monica. I didn’t know anything about organic sleeping or what to watch out for. He totally schooled me. Not only that, he quickly and professionally observed my positioning on the in store model and told me the mattress I needed. It’s a custom made mattress, just for me, and it’s healthy. I feel supported and comfortable. He was concerned about what I needed and wasn’t trying to sell me anything that wouldn’t help me.
I tell all my friends about Steven and The Clean Bedroom. I couldn’t be any happier. Here’s to many nights of peaceful, queen sized sleeping!

We just moved to Santa Monica. We needed new beds. We walked into The Clean Bedroom and were met by Steven. He was great — no BS, straightforward and opinionated — all in a great way.
He asked tons of questions and then steered us right to something that was wonderful. I pushed to try others, but time and again he was right about what would work for us.
I don’t get the negative reviews about taking off shoes or using a pillow protector — seems like the kind of environment we all would want (one where the team cares about all potential customers).
Overall this was a great experience and I would highly recommend.

When I first walked into The Clean Bedroom, I was looking for a wool topper to soften a TOO FIRM mattress my husband & I just bought somewhere else. Steven, the manager, wouldn’t sell me one, b/​c he said it would just be a waste of money and that we should try to get our money back from the place we just bought our mattress from. He was honest and said the topper really wouldn’t help enough for us to be happy with our mattress. I really respected that about him and was surprised a sales person wouldn’t sell me a topper. I knew he was different from day 1.
We still ended up buying a wool topper from somewhere else b/​c we really wanted to give our mattress one last shot. But Steven was RIGHT! The topper did NOT help as much as we’d hoped and we were still HATING our new mattress.
Cut to a month later, we were back in The Clean Bedroom. Steven remembered me and asked the right questions and was genuinely concerned about our situation. My husband & I were having back issues due to the incredibly firm mattress.
He asked us all the right questions about our health issues, sleeping patterns etc and found us the perfect mattress that should fit our needs.
Not only did he find us a great mattress… he entertained us while shopping! I was constantly cracking up at his stories and love his personality!
We will get the mattress soon and am confident this will be the one.

I went into TCB a few weeks ago after my husband and I bought a new, expensive, mattress, and I wanted to get a new, organic pillow. Steven, the man who helped me, was so full of information on the different types of pilllows they carried, and what would work best for me, i am a side/​stomach sleeper. He was right, I bought the natrual rubber pillow and I LOVE it. Five stars for the pillow and for the knowledgeable sales help. I will be back…

what a great experience — I am shocked at some of these negative reviews. everyone I worked with especially Steven was helpful and professional and gave me undivided attention with out being pushy (I needed to be handheld as this was my first time buying an organic mattress) delivery and mattress was everything i expected, would HIGHLY recommend.

Like one of the other reviewers, I am not one to write negative reviews. We went to this store last week with the full intention of buying a mattress. The owner was shockingly rude, talking on and on about himself, did not let us complete one question of our own before being interrupted by his own presumptuous replies and abrasive manner. Thankfully, there are other places to buy organic mattresses.

I purchased a mattress for my son around Spring Time from a store I don’t want to mention… anyway, I asked for a chemical free mattress which was recommended. However, no-​one could provide me with a list of materials but I was promised that this particular mattress which I was about to purchase was chemical free. A few weeks later it was delivered — but something didn’t feel right inside myself. Weeks past and I started to research organic bedding/​mattresses online. The Clean Bedroom Store in Santa Monica popped up and after reading the reviews I gave it a shot. As soon as I walked in I was cheerfully greeted by Steven. I told him about my scenario with the mattress I had bought and that I didn’t feel 100% convinced that this mattress was really chemical free. Steven told me his view and offered to assist me in finding out. I did not feel pressured at all to buy from his store — I felt the passion he has for the products he is selling. The further inquiry into the product I previously bought, realizing that it was not chemical free and trying to get it returned took weeks. Steven was very helpful during this time and when I was finally ready to purchase a mattress from his store he immediately suggested the right mattress for my son. When my son laid on the mattress there was big smile on his face!!! I purchased the mattress, it was delivered before the promised time :) !!!
I can not write about the mattress yet as my son’s bedroom is still under construction at present…
The service I received from Steven was outstanding. He knows everything about mattresses (and I did research before I went in the store) and he is very passionate about the products he is selling. I would highly recommend to talk to Steven before buying a mattress!

My husband and I recently went to the Clean Bedroom and received help from Steven, the owner. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We bought a king mattress and 4 king pillows that are customizable by having removable filling. So cool! We highly recommend the place and eco/​green/​mattresses are the only way to go. Prices are reasonable too.

Finally! I can breathe easier. I have been having a problem with dust and mold in my bedroom so I went to The Clean Bedroom. Steven showed me two models that would work, but he recommended the Austin Air, because it was less expensive and fufilled my needs just the same. He was very easy to deal with, no pressure and very helpful.

My husband and I had a particularly unpleasant experience at Clean Bedroom.
We have been searching for an organic mattress for awhile now. I’ve passed by Clean Bedroom a few times on the way to RFD, so I figured we should visit the store. At this point, I was so disappointed with my current bed that I was willing to buy something that day. We were biking by the beach that day so we weren’t super dressed up, but we definitely were not grungy looking. Just beachy.
The man working there had no other customers, but it seemed like he couldn’t be bothered. Now, I generally would let this go, assuming maybe this person has had a bad day. We mention we’ll try out some of the beds, but were not interested in super-​high-​end ones. First, he told us how he wouldn’t recommend the lowest-​end beds to us, but we could try it out if we really wanted to. We had to push to try it out, and he made it seem like a major effort — having to get pillows, put a special cover sheet on the bed, take off our shoes, etc. The bed indeed felt flimsy, but his overwhelming presence kept us from relaxing on the bed fully.
We then start looking at the higher end beds — still within our price range, but not something I was ready to share yet. He stopped us, saying «Well, I would show you the higher-​end beds, but it’s like letting you test drive a BMW when it’s out of your budget.»
We quickly left the store. I was disheartened by how we were treated, but we went ahead with our search to Essentia Mattress, just a mile south. Chloe was so lovely, let us try all the mattresses, even offered us a drink. The beds were like clouds. We were very happy.

I was here once when an employee was there, and the employee was nice. However, another time I went, it was the owner, and he was very rude. He almost told me to go to Bed Bath and Beyond. Horrible customer service and I made me not want to buy anything to make him a profit. You can try the pillows, but his attitude was like «oh, don’t try pillows bec they are so priceless and you might ruin them,» even though it is normal to try a pillow before paying $ 150 for it, plus you use a cover for trying the pillows.

WOW! This was a truly wonderful experience. The products we purchased are outstanding. The gentleman who helped us, Mr. Klein, is superb. He explained how we could get our TempurPedic mattress, which was making us sick, returned and refunded by TempuPedic. And we did return it, and they did refund us the full purchase price. This was 2 years after we had bought the TempurPedic mattress!

We bought a mattress on 5÷12÷12 and it was delivered on 6÷7÷12, ahead of schedule based on their 4 – 6 week quote.
Short version: we ADORE our mattress, and got fantastic customer service from their headquarters. Our service experience with the Santa Monica showroom was initially good, but later a miss. I would wholeheartedly recommend the product, but I do feel that one should be prepared to be their own advocate when it comes to the local customer service.
Long version:
When our mattress first arrived, husband and I agreed that it felt wrong — much firmer than the one we had chosen in the store, even when considering the possibility of a break-​in period. I called the store and stated that I was unsure that our mattress combination was right, and asked how to verify it (a code on the mattress tag, for example). He spoke impossibly fast, said something about a slight break-​in period, and shifted the conversation to how the delivery went. Once I’d given him enough of the information he was after, he quickly said «Great, if you have any questions, just give us a call» and hung up.
I stood there sort of flabbergasted… I *did* have questions, and that was *why* I called, but he didn’t answer them at all. Now what?
They have a mainline customer service email address, so I tried that, thinking that having my specific concerns in writing would make them harder to gloss over. Haley Plazza, their customer service rep, replied in less than 15 minutes with exactly what I needed: each layer is plainly labeled. So I just had to unzip the cover and check… and we were right, they’d sent us the wrong combination.
I was simultaneously SO happy for Haley’s help, so relieved that I wasn’t just imagining things with the mattress, and so annoyed that the guy on the phone couldn’t have just told me that. I might’ve walked away basically satisfied with the showroom rep’s dismissive break-​in period suggestion and that would’ve been that, which wouldn’t have been fair to me as a customer.
Haley’s follow-​through was perfection. She kept up the process without reminders from me, and we received our replacement layers within three weeks, including complimentary shipping and assembly.

Ok, I have had a month of amazing sleep on my new mattress. I could not be happier, my lower back has not felt so good, every day, since I don’t know when! My chiropractic visits have been extended out. I teach fitness classes 7 days a week so I have over– use issues with the body, but this bed is definately amazing therapy! I had to go in and tell Steven in person. He explained to me a good mattress will align your spine, makes sense, I am here to testify to that !!
