Sylvia was wonderful! She made an extra late appointment for me because of my work schedule on short notice. On the day of my appointment I was running late and texted to let her know and should I reschedule? She said no and to come in late regardless. When I got there the room was a cozy place tucked in a hair salon… Everything was clean and she washed her hands several times. I felt very comfortable with Sylvia (very important as she was working on my bikini line). She was extremely diligent, careful and caring. She also charges a very reasonable price.

I will definitely be back to Sylvia for my hair removal needs.

I had an appointment today with Sylvia at Syliva Shapiro Skin & Body Care. When I made the appointment, she talked negatively about her customers. That should have been the first warning sign. I made the appointment for 9:30AM. Since I purchased a Groupon for 2 facials, I made another appointment a month later for also 9:30AM. I arrive at the business at 9:25AM and she is not there and the business is closed. I call her at 9:30AM and she said she has me down for 10AM, but she’ll be there in 15 minutes — 9:45AM. I told her the appointment was at 9:30AM and I had made two appointments for 9:30AM. She is unapologetic and tells me I can cancel the appointment. I say I will see her in 15 minutes. 15 minutes go by and she is still not at the business. I call her and it goes to voice mail. At 10AM, she comes in and walks right by me — without saying a word to me. I follow her inside and she asks me to fill out a form. I do that, but just fill out the basic details that she needs for the facial. She tells me that she has dealt with a lot of rude customers and since she will be putting her hands on my face, I need to fill out all of my contact details or I can leave and get a refund from Groupon. I tell her I waited 30 minutes for her to arrive, I live very close, and I would like my facial. She starts again complaining about her customers and demands to see my Groupon because she says she has a lot of fake people come in. She talks for about 5 minutes complaining about her customers — and that’s when I say I am going to ask for a refund and leave. There is no excuse for having a customer wait 30 minutes and then complaining non-​stop about her customers to a customer. Simply unprofessional. I wish I had listened to the negative reviews here on Unilocal before I wasted my time.

Sylvia is the best. She is extremely knowledgable in her field, and excited about her work. I have gotten facials and electrolysis from her. She is very personable and has great energy. Both treatments were amazing — and the hair she removed with the electrolysis hasn’t come back! She took her time and was very professional. She is a great woman, and a great aesthetician. I would recommend her to all my friends — and all of you!

My first negative Unilocal review.
I purchased 3 brazilian waxes from Lifebooker. I liked that she was located near me. It was a little weird on my first trip because it is in a cottage type apartment complex and the service is done in a small home. You have to wait for her to come out and give you a parking pass. She convinced me to try sugaring instead of honey wax. I did. I felt it was more painful than what I’m used to and we agreed next time she would do the wax.
Not so bad for the first time.
The second time. She called that morning to change my time and when I arrived I waited for 20 minutes for her to finish up with someone. Keep in mind it’s an apartment complex with no place to sit and read a magazine, no place to sit at all. I wound up sitting on the stoop.
When she saw my regrowth she complained it was too long and I needed to be trimmed she went on a tirade that she doesn’t have time to do these waxes that she’s not making enough money on them. I offered her to finish this one and I would forgo the last one. She used the honey wax which was good but then she used a hard drying wax which was very uncomfortable.
She started complaining again about the coupon and was convinced that I was there after the offer had expired. I was on the table and not near the certificate. I reminded her that I was not coming back for the last one (hoping that would calm her down) When i was done I gave her the certificate with the one remaining wax with an expiration of 6÷5÷2014.
Sylvia– if you don’t want to do brazilian waxes, please don’t offer your services on these discount sites. You may just get someone who wants that service (as described) and doesn’t need to hear a tantrum from you about how you hate to do it and they are not worth your time.

Sylvia is an excellent skincare professional! She works out of her home which I really enjoy. Scheduling is flexible and there’s no crazy run around. She is a wonderful person and is very supportive and nice to talk to. I am very grateful I found Sylvia on Unilocal to help resolve my skin problems. Feeling more beautiful and confident everyday! Sylvia was great! As far as the negative comments on here, you have to question who’s the «rotten apple» when you have mostly exceptional comments and, without a doubt, there are always those whom can never be satisfied… those who wallow around negativity.
This was my first facial experience, and I thought the way my face and skin felt and looked when I left was unreal. Sylvia is obviously well versed in her field and not pushy to sell, whatsoever. Although I’m not much of a «products» kind of guy, I can clearly see the advantages to regular esthetician visits.
Yes, this is out of her home, but that’s why her prices are so low for the quality job she provides. And yes, she is a chatter. But hey, we had a few laughs, and isn’t that a lot better than the long awkward silences?!
I’ll definitely be back.

Amazing! I have been getting electrolysis and it has worked beautifully! I have also had the best facials. Sylvia’s skin care products are reasonably priced and effective. Since I have been seeing Sylvia, I have been getting lots of compliments. My skin looks incredible!

I am definitely a Sylvia fan for sure. If you are looking for a traditional «spa» experience like Burke Williams, then this is not for you because yes, she does work out of her home. However, if you’re looking for a great facial from someone who has clearly done the research and knows what she’s using and uses clean, organic products, then Sylvia is your perfect match. I wanted someone who could help my dry skin and give me advice on products. Sylvia knows quite a bit about products, medical conditions, and really is more holistic in her approach than just someone who slaps some moisturizer on you and sends you away. She’s a great lady and a great esthetician. I will definitely be going back to her.

Amazing. My skin has never looked better. Yes, she works out if her home, but definitely makes up for it with experience. Her facials are unrivaled. If you are looking for a Burke Williams all inclusive spa experience, this may not be the place for you. But she is living proof that her techniques and products all work.

I bought a groupon for a facial, and I had a really great time with Sylvia. She’s very knowledgeable and very nice, and has some very nice products if you’re running low on anything when you go, but she isn’t pushy about selling them. She offered me a discount on my next visit so I think I’ll definitely go again :)

I’m not quite sure what I expected when I went to Sylvia’s but it likely wasn’t what I got. Sylvia is this sweet lady working out of her home as an esthetician. At first I felt awkwardly clumsy in her home/​workplace but Sylvia is so sweet and made me feel right at home. She’s very knowledgeable about skincare and shares the knowledge very freely.
Talkative? Yes. But I appreciated it. Seriously a sweet lady and my skin was glowing post-​facial.

I highly recommend Sylvia for skin care treatments. She does a ton of other treatments, such as waxing, electrolysis, and massage.
For my facial, I left at 5pm and had clear, beautiful, glowing skin with no red marks or other typical post-​facial issues, so was ready-​to-​go for dinner and a movie that very evening. That’s how gentle she is, her organic products are, and how much time she takes to do it right and let the calming treatments do their thing before sending you on your way.

Sylvia works out of her house, and everything is pretty informal. I personally like this a lot — it’s on a quiet block in a residential neighborhood, she meets you at the car to hang a parking permit, walks you in, and talks exuberantly throughout the session about you, her, skin care and products, things she’s recently learned or other treatments she does, etc.
So if you’re looking for a zen-​like spa experience with Buddha-​lounge music playing in a darkened room and a completely mute aesthetician, this isn’t it.
It’s quite a bit like getting a hair cut, I find — you’re going in to do something that needs getting done, getting it done well, and filling that time pleasantly talking with a nice person about a whole host of things. During a facial or wax, I say bring it on. During a massage, perhaps not so much. So yeah: zen-​like? Not really. Effective and good? Heck yes.
She’s very thorough and also threw in quite a few freebies, so be prepared to run a little long. Also be prepared to start a little late, therefore, as she probably did this for the person before you, too (we got started about 15 minutes late and I was all prepared to remain bent out of shape and a one-​time customer, but the 90+ minute session that followed got me waaay over it).
All in all, a little loose-​y goose-​y, but 100% worth it – especially with her pricing — and fantastic results.
Definitely going back in 4 weeks, and likely buying some products then, too.

I thought I was getting a good deal from Lifebooker. I really wished that it would say somewhere that it’s in a residence… C’mon Unilocal people, why didn’t you say so before?
Anyway, since it was in a residential area, I needed a permit to park on the street. She said to TEXT her when I arrive, so she can give me a parking permit. Arrive 10 minutes early, texted her. No response. 10 minutes later, I called. No answer. So I left.
15 minutes later, she calls, I didn’t pick up and let it go to voicemail. She left a voicemail, wondering where I’m at, not even acknowledging that she received my text or missed call. She left a message as if I didn’t even show up.
UGH. The next minute, I was on the phone with customer service for Lifebooker and requested a refund. But was denied, so asked for credit instead.
Waste of my time.

Last time I went to see Sylvia I was leaving for Hawaii in one week. She worked with my crazy schedule to make sure I was ready. I tried sugaring for the first time and I loved it. Plus I got the best facial.

I went to Sylvia for a wax, and she spent the first 10 minutes talking to me about my skin. I tried to change the subject many times, but she continued to insult me, albeit I don’t believe her intention was to be offensive, for my personal decisions regarding my skin care. Nevertheless, after too much talking, we got to waxing. I really enjoyed the sugar wax. I have no frame of reference to which to compare; however, it was more comfortable than a traditional wax. She also used this mud mask thing, which was pretty cool. While she provided a decent service, it took a full hour since she did a lot of talking and advice giving, despite my continued attempt to steer clear from receiving advice. It’s one thing if you request advice; I was not. I just wanted a wax. Oy. Even though I bought a lifebooker for 2 waxes, I don’t think I will be going back. I like a more calming, relaxing atmosphere… For a Saturday morning, it felt like she was on speed. I’m not exaggerating.

The best esthetician and electrolysis person I have been to. She has so much knowledge– and I thought I knew everything already. I love that she has organic products and a thorough understanding of natural products. I do not get the redness from electrolysis hair removal with her that I did with others because of her aftercare. My eyebrows look pretty normal afterwords. Great facials.

Silvia knows her stuff. Not only does she provide excellent services but she also teaches you how to take care of your own skin care needs. She treats me and now, my tween daughter. Sylvia has inspired my daughter to have good habits and a simple routine to take care of her skin reaching puberty. Her prices are fair and you always feel as she has been thorough.

I love Sylvia. She has the best skin care services. I have been going to her for the last 3 years. I have experienced her wonderful massages and facials. She makes sure she spends plenty of time with you and she goes out of her way to give you bonus time. She also consults you on your skin and how to take care of it. She is very knowledgeable. If you are looking for a way to relax or get a deep cleaning, she is the person to go. She also does the best extractions. Sylvia is very sweet and personable and will become your friend instantly.
