Dr. Liu received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his internship, residencies and research fellowship at UCLA Medical Center. In 1998, Dr. Liu was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at UCLA Medical School where he continued to hone his skills in clinical practice, teaching and research. Dr. Liu has conducted extensive research and is widely published in the fields of Bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery; he is nationally recognized in his field and has lectured extensively to professional societies on these subjects. Dr. Liu is board certified in General Surgery and over the course of his career has performed over 4000 Surgeries.

Dr Liu is by far the most amazing doctor. He’s kind and personable… Talks to you in layman terms. No matter what services you are looking to have done, He’s definitely the one to see. His office is efficient, friendly and genuinely caring about their patients.
After noticing a large lump on my back, His office was able to get me in to be seen by Dr Liu, same day ct scan with a local radiology office, have results and scheduled an operating room at a hospital I wanted, And removed the tumor all within 2 weeks. Simply amazing! A+++

Dr. Carson Liu… Wow! Lemme tell you I am a sort of professional patient due to an injury received at work. I have been to several doctors. About six years ago Dr. Liu gave me a Lapband. Badda boom, I lost 100 pounds. Now don’t get me wrong, you can bypass the band… drink milk shakes, no exercise etc. But if you are willing to work the Band is the silver bullet. And I say now, if you go anywhere else to get a band, you are crazy. Dr. Liu has done thousands, has the absolute best bedside manner and truly cares. And, as you might imagine, he has surrounded himself with one of the best medical staffs I have ever seen. I guess the best comment I can give him is that I would let him work on my two daughters who I love extremely. Thanks Dr. Liu and staff. Lovin it!!!

Dr. Liu is the best bariatric surgeon ever!!! I had my lap band 2009 and couldn’t be happier.
Dr Liu is a really caring, friendly, compassionate and patient doctor who understands my needs and goals as a lap band patient.
Thanks to Dr Liu’s skills and knowledge as a bariatric surgeon I’ve had NO post surgery complications since 2009. Post surgery I had 3 tiny incisions and have no scars now. I had my surgery on a Friday and was back to work on Monday.
This surgery has changed my life dramatically for the better and will forever be grateful to Dr Liu and his amazing staff. Thanks Dr Liu

I consider one of the luckiest days in my life the day I called UCLA (January, 1999) for a consultation and was assigned to Dr. Carson Liu. I even recall the nurse telling me how lucky I was to have been assigned to Dr. Liu as he is so wonderful. Dr. Liu has always been caring and very thorough in his explanations. He is never short or unwilling to listen to my concerns.
In April (2013) I had lap band surgery — although it didn’t really seem like surgery. I really had no pain or discomfort. As soon as I woke after the surgery my only question was how soon can I go home. I felt so good I didn’t go home but went to Costco to do some shopping and more importantly, walking around. The lap band has been amazing for me, I haven’t had any problems and just feel full and don’t get hungry. In 3 months I’ve lost nearly 45 pounds. I do follow the prescribed diet and exercise.
I’m also happy that Dr. Liu is now doing is now doing SmartLipo — as I am looking forward to that procedure when my weight loss is complete.

Dr Liu and his staff are lifesavers. I had surgery with him over two years ago and have been a patient ever since. Dr. Liu did two operations on me at the same time. He can give the impression of being a little «deadpan,» but don’t let that fool you. Hidden behind that is a brilliant, compassionate and amazingly skilled surgeon who is nothing short of a miracle worker. I have friends who have used him and been happy and thrilled with him. His staff is incredible: friendly, genuine, non-​judgmental, patient, warm, and genuinely invested in your wellbeing. He has great credentials from a top tier medical school, and is known and highly respected amongst his colleagues. For example, I was in NYC and having some mild complications (on a Sunday evening). Dr. Liu personally contacted the Director of the Bariatric Surgery program at NYU Med Center and made arrangements for me to be seen that night. I was able to reach him personally on a Sunday night from the other side of the country! If you’re not in network his staff will work with you. They’re great about handling all insurance authorizations and financial stuff. Also, Dr. Liu is an attending surgeon at a number of hospitals and will give you a choice of surgery locations! I started the process being terrified, but have come out a success. I also know that Dr. Liu teaches other surgeons how to do the lap band procedure. He is a leader in the field, and widely known. If you’re considering surgery for weight loss and acid reflux (both in my case) Dr. Liu is probably the best surgeon on the West Coast. Stay away from the «billboard» doctors, and go see Dr. Liu if you’re serious. I can’t say enough great things about him.

Dr. Liu is the best lap-​band surgeon on the West Coast, if not the entire U.S. I had my lap-​band surgery in June of this year, and I can’t say enough positive things about my experience with Dr. Liu. He has given me a new opportunity to change my lifestyle and become a new person!
Dr. Liu is an extremely skilled surgeon with a passion for helping his patients with their weight loss goals. He makes sure that you (the patient) understand the procedure, the device, and everything that goes on before and after surgery. My entire surgery only took 35 minutes and my scars are tiny-that’s how skilled he is! On the day of surgery, he makes sure you’re comfortable, as well as talks to your support group there about what’s going on. He will stay and answer every little question you have, unlike some of the other surgeons I had met, who just want to get you in and out.
Not only did I have a great experience the day of surgery, but my experience afterward has been great too. Some of my stitches popped out due to my excessive movement while sleeping and Dr. Liu was able to take them out carefully so that I did not have pain or any additional scarring. The first adjustment (fill) I had by him was perfect, and I continued to lose weight without getting sick. Even though Dr. Liu is not covered under my insurance, I will continue to see him because of his expertise and compassion towards his patients. He even works with the patient to make sure that they are able to afford his services… I couldn’t ask for more!

I had lap band surgery in February 20Ten. So far its been an amazing experience. My doctor, Dr. Carson Liu is an excellent doctor, which was referred to me. Before I met with Dr. Liu, I had a consultation at 1−800-GET-THIN.
My experience at GET-​THIN and Dr. Liu’s were like night and day. When I walked into the offices of GET-​THIN in Los Angeles, on Wilshire, I felt like I was being cattle into the lap-​band procedure. Everyone who had an appointment at 10 am was all placed in a room together. The front desk lady looked like a billboard that read «we do breast augmentations; lip enhancements and butt implants!» The surgical room is on the premises and it seemed like their staff members were on fast speed. I felt like they were treating me like cargo that was tagged «OPERATE NOW» or «OPERATE LATER»!
So after that experience, I explained to my general doctor that I wanted the lap-​band and he then recommended Dr. Liu. When I walked into Dr. Liu’s office on Wilshire; I felt like a patient and not cattle. His office is very pleasant and has a real nice atmosphere. His staff members are very nice and were not pushy as if were trying to force me into getting the lap-​band. In his office there’s nothing but informative information that helped me while I waited to meet with Dr. Liu. From the time I arrived until the time I left; I felt like the day had been set aside just for me. When I met Dr. Liu, I was thinking WOW he’s young with all this experience behind him.
Dr. Liu is a true professional, which he exemplifies in his office and his knowledge of weight loss surgery. He made me feel so comfortable by taking his time explaining every detail of the surgery with me and only me. After meeting with him; I knew right away that I wanted him to perform my surgery. My surgery was performed at Cedar Sinai, and not in Dr. Liu’s office. I was under a team of Bariatric professionals that comforted my woes regarding surgery and assured me that I was in the best hands with Dr. Liu. Dr. Liu is a phenomenal weight loss surgeon, which has helped me on my way to a healthy weight loss of 50 pounds and counting.

After doing a year’s worth of research on the various options for weight loss surgery, I decided that the lap Band system offered the most flexible solution. I met with Dr. Carson Liu and he immediately put me at ease. He understood my concerns with all of the options, and agreed that in my circumstances the lap band was right for me. Dr. Liu and all of his staff were instrumental in helping me through all of the processes involved with getting medical and psychological clearances for the surgery and insurance company authorized. After my surgery Dr. Liu and all of his staff continue to be helpful, supportive and encouraging. I cannot emphasize enough how happy I am with my surgery, Dr. Liu and his staff. 2 months after surgery and I have lost over 30lbs so far, and continue to lose. My sleep apnea has been resolved and no more blood pressure medication .I have more energy than I have had in years. On top of it all his office staff in incredible! You will never meet a more personable and pleasant bunch of people in your life. I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Liu and his staff. Thank you for giving me a new beginning.
