Dr. Sant P. Chawla, Director of the Sarcoma Oncology Center and Cancer Center of Southern California, specializes in the advanced treatment of cancer and is leading the way in ground-​breaking clinical drug trials. He is known for his whole-​person approach to cancer treatment and innovative chemotherapy regimens that limit side effects.

Dr. Chawla combines patient care with his groundbreaking research in pancreatic carcinoma, gynecologic tumors, breast cancer, glioblastoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, lung cancer and gastrointestinal tumors. He is internationally recognized as a pioneering physician who’s received numerous accolades and recognition for his work in sarcoma and is internationally recognized as a leading authority in treatment and clinical research in sarcoma therapy and bone and soft-​tissue sarcomas. Dr. Chawla’s work can be credited as the foundation of numerous other breakthroughs in cancer treatment.

Dr. Chawla’s achievements in clinical research started in the 1980s with his pioneering work for young sarcoma patients. His research led to the development of a limb-​saving treatment for osteosarcoma replacing amputation as the primary treatment. In the years since, Dr. Chawla has led over 60 clinical trials for cancer drugs with many of them approved by the EMA and FDA.

Sant P. Chawla, MD, FRACP recieved his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. After that, he completed specialty training in Medical Oncology at the Auckland Hospital in New Zealand. He completed his Medical Oncology fellowship at the prestigious Fellow Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He then went on to continue his fellowship training in oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas.

Dr. Chawla is board-​certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine and he has received countless accolades for his clinical research on the treatment of advanced bone and soft-​tissue sarcomas, gynecologic tumors, glioblastoma, pancreatic carcinoma, lung cancer, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal tumors.

Dr. Chawla is medically licensed in Texas and California, and his medical board certification is in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. In additional to his director’s role at the Cancer Center, Dr. Chawla is a medical oncologist at Cedars-​Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center and an adjunct associate professor at Stanford University and the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He holds clinical faculty positions at prestigious cancer centers, including USC, UCLA, and the John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. John’s Hospital, Santa Monica, California.
