Voted Best of L.A. by Los Angeles Magazine, Ladybug Music offers funky, soulful & eclectic kids’ music classes in a warm environment that encourages participation and silliness.
What to expect in a Ladybug Music class…
Ladybug Music offers research based, mixed age (infant — four years) classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers that expose families to the richness of musical styles that reflect the eclectic music of our time and culture.
Ladybug classes inspire little ones to express themselves and discover their creativity using their bodies and voices, linking their joy and excitement for music with a connection to their parents and caregivers.
We sing, play percussive instruments, dance, chant, do finger plays, listen, sing lullabies and so much more. Together we explore sounds, words, pitch, tempo, melody, tone, meter, rhythm, dynamics, beat, movement and dance, all in a non-performance environment where every child and parent is able to experience their style of learning with no expectations — just play.
Our high quality music curriculum immerses young children in a diverse range of rich, complex music, combined with simple melodies and great rhythms. An eclectic mixture of music from Reggaeton jams to Appalachian lullabies, Surf punk ditties to Brazilian beats, each CD and class introduces your child to pitch, tempo, melody and rhythm (through singing, instruments, dance and more.)
At Ladybug we sing it, boogie down & have fun!
Meet the Business Owner
Patricia M.
Business Owner
Ladybug Music founder Patricia M. Maertens has a simple mission: marrying great music with great education.
An early-childhood music educator since 2004, Maertens started her Los Angeles-based business following a two-decade professional career as a singer, songwriter and producer whose original material has been featured in films and on TV.
As Ladybug’s primary creative force, Maertens seeks to synthesize the wide spectrum of styles and sounds she’s been exposed to throughout her life. Born in Hollywood, she grew up in the culturally mixed neighborhoods of South L.A. and Portuguese Bend; she also accompanied her El Salvadoran mother and German father on their extensive world travels.
«My goal with Ladybug is teaching kids foundational musical skills: the ability to keep a beat and match a pitch,» Maertens says. «But my dream is to inspire families to experience the great joy of exploring and discovering new music with their children.»
