J. David Edwards, MD

Dr. Edwards is a fabulous doctor. He has a great bedside manner and a wealth of knowledge and experience. He always responds quickly when I need to consult with him over the phone and I can always get an appointment when I need it. The people is his office are wonderful too! I am very grateful to be his patient!

I really hate to write this but I have had the worst most uncomfortable experience at this doctors office. The office workers are rude, short, and hate doing work. I called to ask if my new insurance was covered and was told to check the insurance website. I had already checked and it said no, but knowing those websites are not always the most up to date I wanted to be sure. The British accented woman told me she had never heard of my insurance and that she would not check. I begged her since I needed my annual and finding a new gynecologists is a pain, she argued no and that because it was Harvard Pilgrim they didn’t accept it. I then went to Dr. Edwards site on a whim and saw they accept Harvard Pilgrim, I decided to schedule my annual through the site instead of deal with the lady who wouldn’t help me before.
Day of exam I didn’t have my physical insurance card yet, but had group number, policy number, etc. With me. I was balked at with a nearly indignant grunt about how I need to have it and must provide a copy soon.
Last straw, I called cvs to get my bc refilled and was told it had expired. I was then told to have the doctors office fax over the renewal and they would fill it, not an uncommon request. I called the doctors office and not 1 but 2 women told me to call the pharmacy. I explained what I was asked to do by CVS and they said no. Flatly, no! They would not fax or call CVS and it was protocol for the pharmacy to call them. They further went on to say that CVS likes to mess with patients by telling them to ask the doctor to fax the rx.
I’m floored, floored.

Thanks for your reply, doctor. As I stated before, you could have been cordial enough to see her and answer her questions after she made the effort and took the time to already see you and be in your office. But obviously that was not important enough to you. You lost a potential patient and now many more people know about your inflexibility and stubbornness.

I went to see dr Edwards and I thought his bedside manner was great and he went the extra mile for me. He is very intelligent and knowledgable and I trust him quite a bit.

I’ve been going to Dr. Edwards for almost 10 years, and he and his staff have been consistently wonderful. I tend to get nervous during dr visits/​annual check ups, but Dr. Edwards, with his calm demeanor, answers all my questions with such ease that makes me feel I’m under a really good care. Thank you for your wonderful work, Team Edwards!

I chose Dr Edwards as my Ob for my first pregnancy based on a list of questions about his practice with the very first one being vacation schedule during the time of my EDD. Dr Edwards informed me that he delivers 99% of his patients and had zero vacation plans during the MONTH of my due date. Fast forward to the week of my due date, I came for my visit and Dr Edwards informed me that I had lost my mucus plug which was great because now he could induce me. I had previously and throughout my pregnancy continuously told Dr Edwards that I did not want to induce labor, I wanted to go into natural labor and I would keep an open mind IF I was overdue and my baby was in danger. So when he told me he could induce me I asked why we would do that and he told me, with 2 witnesses in the room, that «the next thing he was going to say might make me change my mind.» He was going on vacation for 2 weeks on Friday (this being Monday and my due date Wednesday) and if I didn’t go into labor and deliver my baby before then that I would be delivering with a «stranger».
I was shocked and felt very betrayed by Dr Edwards and his cold deceitful actions. I wasn’t even to my actual due date and he was trying to force me into labor so that he could go on vacation and deliver my baby before he left because he «had no patients due so this was convenient for him». Based on the fact that Dr Edwards lied to me to get me to become his patient and then never introduced me to a back up Dr, EVER, I was stuck at a point too far into my pregnancy to be able to find a new OB so my choices were to unnecessarily induce labor or deliver with a stranger. I chose not to put myself or my baby in harms way and induce labor for the convenience of Dr Edwards and his vacation so when I went into natural labor I delivered with a stranger, who happened to be a MUCH better Dr with MUCH better bedside manner.
After completing my «follow up» with Dr Edwards, I of course chose to find a new Dr and I would never recommend Dr Edwards to anyone. In fact I would recommend anyone looking for an OB to steer clear of this Dr and his deceitful practices.
In addition to being a liar, Dr Edwards’ office staff and I had discussed fees, bills, insurance, etc. prior to my delivery. I was presented with a couple charges throughout my pregnancy which I paid at the time and then I was told that because I was going to meet my deducible with delivery that I would not have anymore bills through their office as everything would be covered through insurance with the Drs maternity/​delivery coverage costs. Months after I delivered my baby, I received a bill in the mail from a visit w/​Dr Edwards occurring almost a year prior, and a second visit from shortly before my delivery and a note that said I owed a balance. I called the office and spoke with the staff whom agreed that they told me my visits would be covered by insurance as part of my maternity coverage and they would review the bill. I then received another bill, exactly the same. I assumed this was in error again and did not respond. Then I heard nothing for almost a year until Dr Edwards began calling me and harassing me about the balance and threatening to send the bills to collections. I informed him again that my insurance deductible was met and his staff told me all of my bills with their office would be covered under my maternity coverage and I would not have a bill other than the ones I had already paid. He argued with me and continued to threaten me. Then as the weeks went on he continued to harass me and leave me messages threatening to send me to collections and then threatening to sue me.
I had to block the Drs phone numbers to stop receiving harassing calls, but he was able to leave the messages which I’ve now turned over to a malpractice attorney who is going to countersue this office for deceitful malpractice among other claims if I’m presented with a lawsuit as Dr Edwards threatened. If anyone is looking for an OBGYN I strongly urge you to save yourself the misery of his poor care and lies to get you to sign on with him and keep looking. The hospital which recommended this Dr to me has since removed him from their recommendation list based on his actions towards me and my delivery as well as other complaints from patients.
If I had induced my labor because of his suggestion to do so, for his vacation schedule, then I would have been putting unnecessary medical stress on myself as well as my newborn in addition to the emotional stress I endured through learning of my Doctors deceit. And the fact that this Dr said «he has no patients due during this time frame so it was a good chance for him to take a vacation» was a clear indicator that he doesn’t care about the health of his patients of their babies, just making money and vacationing when patients that don’t matter are in his care. Also notice that he is breaking confidentiality laws with his responses to patients, disclosing private information publicly!

Dr. Edwards is fantastic. The staff is so kind and warm. Awesome team and very responsive. Also are very accomodating with their schedule. Dr. Edwards wants to make sure you’re taken care of so does truly follow up in the best manner. He is very straight and to the point while making everything clear for you to understand. Very thorough, quick, patient, and knows what he’s talking about. I couldn’t be in better hands.

Dr. Edwards and his staff are my my absolute favorites! I have been a patient there for many years, and have always felt that they truly care about me.
Dr. Edwards is the only doctor in that office-​which I like, and he has 2 nurses who are always helpful, caring and professional. It is easy to get a human on the phone, to get an appointment, and to get a response to any question.
Dr. Edwards is a very forward leaning doctor who’s proactive approach helped me discover a genetic breast cancer gene that could’ve taken my life. He has guided me through the process with gentle confidence, and even put my husband at ease.
It is so great to go to see a doctor and NOT feel like a number. His Assistants are awesome, so I recommend them to anyone who is new to the area, or to someone who looking for a place where you truly matter.

My insurance is kind of inconvenient because even though I reside in Virginia, there aren’t many gynecologists in VA that accept my insurance. I do find myself in the Los Angeles/​Santa Monica quite often and after a quick search, it turns out that there are a lot of gynecologists in this area that accept my insurance. I decided to book an appointment with Dr. Edwards due to all the good reviews on Unilocal and the convenience of his office location.
It had been a while since my last visit to a gynecologist since I had been living in Japan for a year and before that, I didn’t really have a good experience with previous gynecologists, so I just stopped going. I felt really comfortable and in good hands the moment I met Dr. Edwards. We did a thorough examination and never did I feel rushed or embarrassed throughout the process.
The only minus point is my experience with the online appointment system. I made an appointment online, which is super convenient by the way, but received no email or phone confirmation on my appointment. I went ahead and called the front desk and I’m not sure why, but they asked me to come in 30 after my original appointment that I had made online. I’m not sure if there were problems with the online appointment system because it was never explained to me, but hopefully it was just a one time glitch.

I would not recommend Dr. Edwards. From the day I walked into his office at 4 weeks pregnant, he pushed me to consider an amnio, which I thought was kinda strange. Amnios are not recommended as a general practice until there is reason to suspect that one might be necessary to diagnose a condition.
I just kept getting a weird feeling from him and ended up switching doctors at around 13 weeks.
Dr. Edwards performed the 12 week milestone scan before I switched doctors. Note: Dr. Edwards performed this milestone scan and I feel he is unqualified to do so.
My next doctor outsourced all scans to a licensed perinatologist (a person who is trained on fetal development) and at 16 weeks, it was discovered that our baby had anencephaly, which means that the skull and the brain had not developed or formed. This absolutely should have been detected at the 12 week scan. By 12 weeks, the baby’s skull and brain are intact and visible on any scan.
I am still blown away that he missed this huge neural tube defect. I knew there was a reason my radar was up from the very beginning. He may be a good doctor, but he is not a good radiologist or perinatologist.
Stay away. Its taken me years to come to grips with my experience with Dr. Edwards and only now do I feel that I can write a balanced review without becoming overly emotional.

Do not be fooled with this doctor’s demeanor and old school style. He sure looks respectful, trustworthy, and knowledgeable but I found quite the opposite in a hard way. I went to this doctor before my yearly check up with hardening and a lump feel like in my breast but this doctor dismissed my findings as fibrocystic without ordering an ultrasound or a biopsy right away while I have a family history of breast cancer. Six months later I found nipple retraction and dimpling under the same breast and Edwards still thought it was not anything to be worry about. OF COURSE, a week later I FOUND OUT THAT I HAD STAGE 3 BREAST CANCER. He is an absolutely INCOMPETENT doctor in my opinion. He does not deserve even one star! HE SHOULD STICK TO DELIVERING BABIES ONLY.

Again, this doctor is misrepresenting the facts. My tumor was 8 CENTIMETERS (not millimeter), medical notes on doctor’s chart obtained shows that my initial visit was for a lump, and I had had stage 3 with 12 lymph nods involved NOT IN SITU according to the doctor. I had NIPPLE RETRACTION and DIMPLING when he finally decided to send me to a surgeon to check it out and mentioned that it is not a «RUSH». ONE WORD OF ADVISE– STAY AWAY!!!

Dr. Edwards delivered my daughter in 2000 and was my gynecologist years before then and continues to be today. Besides being smart and self-​assured, he is calm, kind, reassuring, punctual and available when you need him. I have told him on so any occasions that I wish all of my physicians could be just like him. It is obvious that he loves what he does.
When you are pregnant and have a concern, the last thing you want to do is call the doctor on call especially in the middle of the night. You want the doctor who knows you. It is so reassuring to know that if I need help at an odd time of day or night, Dr. Edwards will be the one to be there answering my question, fears, concerns – then and now.
No matter how busy he is, he always has time to take a call or to return your call quickly. Dr. Edward’s staff is as wonderful as he is. They have worked with him for years and are welcoming, helpful and kind. All of the staff go out of their way to help make your experience as Dr Edward’s patient, perfect.
By the way, you can also expect Dr. Edwards to be on time for your appointment. How’s that for showing his patients respect?

Dr. Edwards delivered my daughter who is now three years old. He is very competent and knowledgable. I felt like I was in great hands and knew if anything were to go wrong, he would know what to do. Another plus is that you know he will deliver your baby and not another doctor since it’s his practice alone. The staff is ultra friendly, caring, knowledgable. You will be in good hands. I have since moved out of state and wish he could deliver my next pregnancy.

very fast pace here. doctor is efficient and willing to make efforts for patiences depends, I really appreciated the fact he called the insurance company for my prescription‘s authorization right away. hope he can spend a little more time with me on his consultation. I like him.

I never had children, but I have seen Dr. Edwards over the years for gynecological care. It is rare to find a doctor who is not only highly competent and knowledgeable, but also caring, kind and professional. Dr. Edwards is one of these rare doctors. I recently had a vaginal infection that kept me up most of the night, and Dr. Edwards not only spoke to me on the phone when I called in the morning, but also got me in to see him on a same day appointment, despite the fact that he had a very busy schedule that day. Dr. Edwards is an excellent doctor and a good person, and I highly recommend him to any woman seeking a gynecologist.

Dr. Edwards delivered our healthy girl a few months ago… This doctor is determined but not stubborn. We really felt like we were in good hands. Thanks doctor!

I started seeing Dr. Edwards for prenatal care in 2011. I liked that he has a private practice, so all my appointments and my delivery would be with him (no residents). I also liked the fact that I could call him anytime, day or night, and he was accessible. He is very nice, attentive, answers all of my questions, and is relatively easy to get appointments with. His staff is also very pleasant and I have continued with him as my regular gyno since my son’s delivery. I read some reviews complaining about his leaving the office and rescheduling appointments to go deliver babies, but when you are the one in labor, you want your doctor to drop everything and come deliver your baby!

Dr. Edwards is the best best best ObGyn in the world. From the yearly exam to being with me through my first and soon to be second child, he is nothing but professional, kind and amazing at explaining everything I have questions/​concerns about. His office staff, Deb and Gabby are incredible. They make it so easy with insurance, scheduling appointments and general questions. Dr. Edwards is ALWAYS on time and I never feel rushed while I am with him. He treats both me and my husband with respect and is someone I recommend to everyone I know.

I have delivered all of my children with DR. EDWARDS. He is one one the most knowledgeable and efficient doctors I have ever known. So what if I had to wait a few minutes here and there. That’s what you get when you see a OBGYN. they are always running out for deliveries!
I recently delivered my last child and after delivery had major complications that needed immediate care. He took excellent care of me without taking a second guess; things could have gone really bad if he had not acted as quickly as he did. All of the hospital staff seemed to agree. He is, and will always be in my prayers for what he has done for me.
In conclusion, DR. J DAVID EDWARDS IS AN EXCELLENT DOCTOR! Rest assured that you are in great hands.
