Garbo Shoe Repair

This place sold my shoes, literally my favorite pair I went to pick them up at the place where they said the shoes would be and they were not there how can you do that they were my favorite pair. I’m going to find out who’s name was on the lease and they will get a law suit over this.

Note, Garbo sold his business to his nephew. The quality of the work product has decreased while the prices have increased.
Also I dropped off 3 pairs of shoes to be resoled and was told they would be done in a week. I went back one week later to pick up my shoes but they weren’t finished. I went back another week after that and they still weren’t complete. In fact, they had not started any work on the shoes. I explained that I had a business trip in a few days and I needed the shoes in the next two days. They completed the work but it wasn’t the quality I had come to expect from Garbo. Additionally, they weren’t very apologetic about the delays.

My two pairs of brown shoes were shined well enough, but my pair of black shoes were dull when he returned them, and my white tennis shoes were no cleaner than when I took them in.
I would have given this store three stars in recognition of my brown shoes, but the price he charged for such a lame service was astronomical: $ 35 for one pair?! Anyway there are enough other shoe repair shops nearby that you won’t have to try your luck here.
Makes me wonder why they don’t accept credit cards… Perhaps the chargebacks were to much?

These guys charged $ 50 to fix the soles of my boots. I wore the boots once and the soles immediately split open– probably due to the weight of the sole they put on. When I brought them back, I didn’t expect an argument — I paid them good money to fix my shoes and they broke immediately. They did not stand by their work and said they would charge me for re gluing. That’s inexcusable to me. I would say if you are paid to fix someone’s shoe, you should fix the shoe regardless of whether the sole you glued is coming undone. These were Tod’s boots I might add, so the quality of workmanship was high. If you take your shoes here, you’re taking your chances.

Left all my shoes and boots in here for over 10 years with the old guy who used to run the place. Little eclectic in personality but sweet really and prided himself on his work which was always perfect.
Now the bad stuff… it’s since been taken over by nephews. The guy at the desk is pleasant but asks for money upfront. One Monday left my 300 plus Cydwoq sandals for repair. Toe part came out. Said the guy wouldn’t be there until Sat. Paid $ 25 and got them back ok. Few wks later other shoe same problem. Another $ 25 got them fixed and asked him to glue a little part that was separating. 2 wks later same problem — bought them back and asked for a redo. The guy in the back came out and said it wasn’t his work — was extremely rude and stuck a chisel like implement in between the layers of leather and ripped most of the sole off. THEN — here’s the kicker asked for $ 25 to fix his bad repair job. Now I’m left with a ripped off sole broken toe part and down $ 50 and feeling very ripped off myself.
Never again.

Talk about a «no» guy… i’ve tried to bring him several things to be fixed before (leather purse that had a spill stain on it, suede boots to be cleaned, expensive heels to be cleaned) and he always grumbles at me and tells me they cannot be cleaned and that it’s hopeless. Then I bring them to someone else and they come back looking like new! And talk about a grumpy person. He’s been huffing dirty feet fumes for too long in that disgusting store of his!

Garbo asked for payment upfront to repair the heels of my boots which were severely worn down. I was pleased with the relatively affordable price given the damage. When I picked them up he explained the very extensive repair job he had to do. I was impressed that he stuck to his original price despite the challenge my shoes presented. He seems very dedicated to his craft and did a great job.

When I walked into this place, I nearly walked straight out again. It smells of smoke, and looks really run down. The old guy (possibly Russian?) behind the counter mumbled that my shoes would be too expensive to repair and that I should buy a new pair from him instead. After explaining that these were the only comfortable pair of heels I owned in the entire universe, he relented and said he’d fix them. I walked out of the shop and realized with horror that I had paid him in full and left my shoes without getting any kind of receipt. Expecting the worst, I went back today to get my shoes and… they’re good as new! He matched the material on the heels perfectly, and they’re stronger than ever. Time will tell whether the repair job lasts, but for now I’m very happy.

I have to give Garbo 0 stars really, not 1 — he ruined my boots then refused to fix them without being paid for his services a 2^nd time. This seemingly nice fellow agreed to fix the tips of my heels on my most favorite pair of boots. Only the tips needed to be replaced, nothing more. Once finished, I picked up the boots and put them on to go to work the next day. About an hour into my work day, one of my heels went flying off the boots — it was obviously was detached by the proprietor of Garbo while he was attempting to fix the tip — he’d explained that he might need to go in through the sole to put in a steel rod to secure the tip. He had EXPLAINED that he intended to do this, so I simply asked that he reattach the heel and we’d be even. I’d been majorly inconvenienced by having to walk around the office all day with one 4 inch heel and one 0 inch heel — I looked like a crazy person & it caused me all kinds of problems, but I was willing to just have him re-​attach the heel and us be on our way.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen. The proprietor wanted ANOTHER $ 25 dollars to fix the heel that «he didn’t break» — «someone else must have done it,» he said. He totally contradicting himself & flat out LIED that he did not detach the heel. He’d said he was going to do it & he did it — he just didn’t reattach it properly. «$ 25 more!!!» Is all he could say in response to my shock and horror. I told him I wasn’t going to give him $ 50 dollars for what ultimately was a heel tip replacement. I took my boots and left. Now I am looking for someone who can fix what he has done — he cut through the sole in such a way that I think it cannot be fixed. I have probably lost my favorite pair of boots & cannot even get a refund for them being ruined. Since he will not even provide a receipt, I cannot prove what even happened. Being yelled at after having this experience made it so much worse. He was completely unreasonable about themes that he made — all I wanted was for him to fix the heel that he detached — something you’d think a shoe repairman could do.
Go anywhere else — this fellow is beyond incompetent and rude. I was horrified at my experience.

very nice guy, very honest. said it wouldn’t be worth it for me to fix my shoes and that my others didn’t need fixing yet.
