Creating Arts Studios

My boyfriend and I have seen two shows at this small and intimate performance venue on the east side of Santa Monica. We have seen both «The Experiment» and «Chicabarent» which we just saw on Friday evening, May 20^th, 2016. Chicabarent was a combination show of Chicago, Cabaret and Rent.
I really am not going to go into a great and lengthy description, because you can’t describe these shows accurately in a Unilocal review. You must see them for yourselves. The shows are amazing, though provoking, entertaining and lots of audience interaction (which we love).
The cast of both shows have been absolutely stunning!

Came here for the first time the other night. I saw a 2 person play and I really enjoyed the costumes, the direction, and the acting. It’s a very very small theater. The have 2 «sections» of seats, 3 aisles deep. 2 kinds of folding chairs and tall bar stools I think with backs on them. Though they may change the # of seats depending on the play. If you sit in the front row the actors will be very close to you that at times you will be sitting right under them. It’s very small that if you get up, it will be noticed. Hence, during the performance you can’t use the restroom or go to the front lobby/​entrance as they also use those same «aisles» and doorways to exit/​enter the stage. In the back is a small counter where they sell drinks and snacks by donation. The popcorn is $ 1, but I paid $ 2 total. I saw others giving an extra dollar. Street parking only. Located in a mostly residential area and some small businesses are nearby, but not any eateries. You’d prob have to eat at Olympic and Sawtelle and then come over or the Westside.

«The Experiment» was one of the funniest plays I’ve seen. At first, I didn’t know what to expect but I’m so glad my friend invited me. The cast was absolutely amazing.

Highly recommend coming here! The staff are soooo friendly! Such a great atmosphere! My daughter and niece enjoyed every minute! Everyone did so well playing out their characters! They were also very engaging to the audience! Only negative is the parking on the street is kind of small so I suggest to come early! Other than that– it was a great experience! We will definitely come back!

Incredibly amazing experience! I saw ChicabaRENT and loved every minute. My friends and I were greeted at the door by actors in character. We laughed and sang from that moment on. the highlight was the bartender, in his tighty whities joking with us. I can’t wait for the next show!

Super awesome and fun people! We went to two different shows, The Little Mermaid and Pippi Longstocking, and my daughter had a blast each time. It’s an interactive show, so they get the kids to dance, sing and join in on the action. You can tell they love kids, and they love what they do. Highly recommended, even for the «fussy» bunch. :)

We were impressed by the performance and the kid-​friendly welcome and treatment throughout the entire time. The stage is set up for high interaction with kids and the actors improvise amazingly well. We also appreciated the unexpected birthday greeting for our son and Mrs. Fox is a fantastic host and proprietor. (When looking for the studio, it’s the red brick building on the south side of the street.)

Re: Fantastic Mr. Fox: It’s a close up theater performance – I felt like we were sitting in someone’s living room, and there was going to be one person standing/​performing in the small space in the center (a small empty square space, surrounded by our seats). But the performers used the entire space in the room, and they interacted with the children watching the show. I guess it can’t really be «rated», because the experience depends on how much you would like interactive theater. Though the show start to finish is supposed to be for an hour, it was for around 35 minutes. The actors mingled with the audience after the show.

This was such a fun experience! My boyfriend and I went a few weeks ago for their take on Les Miserables and we had the best time. It’s a cute space but what really makes this place great is the talent! The actors were funny, had incredible voices, and we really got lost in the experience. If you’re looking for something different to do this weekend check these guys out! Highly recommended, especially for the price! I met the owners through my boxing classes so I can also vouch for their awesomeness too ;)

Les miserables immersive theater performance was incredible. The talent was Broadway quality. So much fun and can’t wait for other performances by this company.
