History

Established in 2004.

Deborah Sharp, a long-​time Santa Monica resident and active community member, founded Bark Williams in 2004. Deb shares a lifelong passion for animals with her nephew Charles Sharp, Bark’s co-​owner and operator. Through Bark Williams, they consistently support their local community by giving a portion of proceeds to various schools, churches and animal rescues.

Business Owner

Born in Elmer, NJ, Deborah has lived all over the Northeast and South. Upon graduating from Olé Miss, she headed West to California, settling in Los Angeles in 1979. An accountant by trade, she is a notary public and juggles her time as a bookkeeper and small business owner with her beloved co-​owner and operator, Charles Sharp. Charles, a rugged individualist, is handsome and writes impeccable bios.

Deborah and Charles have inward civic pride and an outward love for the city of Santa Monica. Deborah is regent for the Santa Monica chapter of The Daughters of The American Revolution of which her late mother, Harriet, was a senior member. Deb and Charles also give portions of «The Bark’s» proceeds to Deb’s church and various area schools, animal rescues and non-​profits. Pictured here is Deborah with her late friend and former mayor of Santa Monica, Herb Katz.

Charles and his grooming service is THA BEST. The photos posted below of bad service are absolutely faked. I know her. She’s a liar. Trying to get ‘Yelp famous’ as they say. Anywhoo I brought Timber in, my 100lb Irish Wolfhound, after a bad skunking. She gets around in the dirty bushes if ya know what I mean. Charles and his crew were very thorough. Took the time to clean her properly. Shampoo massage her. And then trim her nice and proper. Shaving her all round but leaving the hair on her face just how she likes.
I recommend them 100%. Best I’ve worked with.

Super friendly people here. Brought my puppy in to get his nails trimmed, and they were really accommodating.
My little guy really hates getting his nails trimmed, so he squirms a lot. They were really patient and got the job done at a really reasonable price (especially given how my puppy is such a problem child when it comes to nail trimming).

This is by far the best place in LA for grooming and supplies. I have 2 long-​haired small dogs who I take to Bark every couple of months to get groomed. I’ve tried so many groomers over the years and, until Bark Williams, was consistently frustrated with the results. People ask me all the time now where I get my dogs groomed, which is why I felt compelled to write a review. I also buy the human grade raw dog food and have seen significant health benefits, especially with one of my dogs who has hip dysplasia. I highly recommend the food, grooming and staff!

Simply love this place. They have great bath steel tubs to wash my dane. i love the oatmeal shampoo and Winston always get a treat for being so good during his bath. They have a great selection of toys and treats. How can you not go to a place with such a cute name?

This review is for their grooming service, not the self serve dog wash.
NOTE for experienced dog owners and new dog owners: If you come here, your dog will definitely smell nice and feel soft, but if you want a thorough job done, I would recommend going to another groomer with more experience. Yes, they give you fast turn-​aound, but when it comes to taking care of my dogs, I care more about the quality of work and not how fast you can get the job done.
I brought two of my dogs, a mini aussie and a husky malamute here on a weekday morning. The staff is friendly and flexible with scheduling. My complaint is the thoroughness and quality of the job. When they told me it only requires 1.5 hrs to wash dry and brush my dog, I was very skeptical (considering it use to take my previous groomer 3 hours), but they guaranteed that it can be done. They did completely wash, dry, and brush both dogs in 1.5 hours but the problem is the quality of the job done.
When I first arrived to pick up the dogs, my husky was not completely dry, he was still moist in his chest. When I pointed it out to the groomer, he said it’s «cool» not moist. When I got home and examined the dogs more closely, I noticed one my dogs still had dirt around his paws, and the other one had matted hair all over his chest area. They are not definitely not use to working with large working breeds that have double coats and require extra attention in brushing and getting out the mats.
They are also not experienced with trimming, my dog’s undercoat is very uneven and choppy. One the dogs also had his belly area shaved horribly uneven Finding a good dog groomer is like finding a good hairdresser, you need someone with experience and know what they are doing, and the groomers here are neither of those.
They say their groomers are experienced but the results speaks for itself.

I barked up the wrong tree here. 3 stars because they did a good job with the wash otherwise it would be a 1 star. I brought in my 45 lb golden doodle for a bath. He’s super well behaved, hair is quite short only about 1.5 inches and takes about 45 min tops to wash him at home. Keeping in mind a self service wash is about $ 15 I opted to have them wash him as a treat to him and myself. You can imagine the sticker shock I had when I picked him up and they rattle off the damage report. $ 70 for the WASH, $ 10 extra because they «had to work out a small matter area on his ear» and a $ 15 gratuity later I’m $ 95 into a WASH! No grooming or trimming took place whatsoever! How on earth can you justify that rate? It costs the same for a full wash and groom with most groomers elsewhere for Pete’s sake! Thanks, but never again!

Rarely do I take the time to post reviews, and it seems we’re so quick to hate on every tiny slight at every business, but Bark Williams gets my words of love today. I’ve been bringing my pup for grooming for a couple of years now, and I’m never disappointed. They’re friendly, clean, and holy hell, fast! My dog was bathed and groomed in under an hour, so no stressful cage wait for your beloved pet. When I walked in I saw the groomer sitting with my girl and petting her, it kind of melted my heart. They’re a tiny bit spendy, but worth every dollar every single time. I love this place. Hugs and ruffs! Love, Joey the dog and Kat the human.

EXCELLENT customer service!!! the chick with short hair…(didn’t catch her name whoops!). …let me come n bathe my lil doggy after the 6pm cut off… I showed up at 6:20pm and it only took me a half hour today. I was done by 6:50pm (in enough time for her to clean up afterwards before they close at 7pm) ! seriously in a world where customer service seems greatly lacking and many people don’t know what that means it is things like this that count. and I WILL be back! scheduled an appointment in 2 weeks for a non anaesthetized teeth cleaning for an unbelievable price! bravo!!!

I was looking for a groomer around the Santa Monica area because I was taking my dog, Kobe, to a park near there and he was in desperate need of a trim. He’s 4 months old and this was going to be his first grooming. I couldn’t take him in same day (as I had expected) so I made an appointment for the following weekend (today). I was very pleased with the man who helped me set up an appointment and figure out what it was I wanted for Kobe.
Upon taking him, the staff that greeted me was very friendly and walked me through everything they would be doing. I pointed out that Kobe has fleas the last time I gave him a bath and they said they would look out for them and give him a flea bath if need be. I left feeling very comfortable that my dog was in good hands. I came back 2 hours later and they were finishing up with Kobe. He looked good and didn’t seem to be in any sort of distress, which was great considering this was his first time getting trimmed and everything. They informed me that he unfortunately had fleas and ticks and that they tried to care of it, but that I should consider taking him to the vet to be on the safe side (ticks=lime disease). With their help, I bought a few things to help Kobe and got my questions answered. Everybody was really friendly and helpful. I’m sure that I will be returning :) the grooming itself was $ 55 so I thought that was reasonable. It included the trim, ear cleaning, nail clipping, black and white bath (made his white fur whiter and dark fur darker), as well as the flea bath (or the flea bath might have been more, I’m not sure). Point is, I was satisfied. His fur came out a little choppy but I’m assuming he didn’t really sit still so I’m not complaining.

Seriously the nicest people own this place! And it is a really cute boutique that is nicely located by a bunch of restaurants with outdoor seating so you can bring your dog to lunch too!
I have come here a few times to wash my dog. I love their Yappy Hour which is Mon-​Thurs 10a-​2pm, $ 9.95 CASH. The service here is excellent. The first time I was helped by Deborah and this time I was helped by her nephew, Charles, who really was great.
He helped me and Brody get situated in the wash area. Gave me a quick demonstration of how to dilute the stuff and we were good to go! Later, he even helped me set up the dry rack for Brody. They have a great selection of wonderful smelling products. They have an Oatmeal one, a Tick and Flea one as the main bases. Then they have the «rinse» which is the conditioner. They also have «tearless» for the face. I think they have one more option too. They also have dental wipes and ear wipes! They have a hand blower and great super soaky towels as well.
Brody enjoyed his wash as much as he could I guess. They did raise their regular wash price to 18 bucks I believe but there is the Unilocal check in offer and also the Yappy Hour.
This is a great «mom and pop» type store that has owners that really care about you and your dog. They have great resources and a decent amount of treats, collars, leashes, toys.
I will definitely be back again with Brody! They seem to have good grooming services too.

I wash my lab here regularly. If you pay cash and check in on Unilocal,the self wash is $ 13. That’s a great deal considering you are getting quality shampoo and conditioner and not having to deal with the clean up.
Everyone is so nice and helpful. My dog always gets some treats from the girl at the counter. I never have to wait more than 5 min to get a tub.

I’m so glad it isn’t a stressful spot, with the staff running around like chickens with their head cut off.
You can truly tell the owners and staff have pride in this business, and are there to help us owners and our pets!
Granted, we typically just come for a nail grind, and each time we come our boston terrier gets less and less willing to oblige. Either way, that means I can’t speak to the any of the other services they offer.
I will say that I was a bit bummed at the selection of supplement options, and pricing of said options.
If I could recommend anything a fish flavored omega 3 supplement that could be added to food would be a great addition, and one I would be extremely grateful for.
Parking is always ridiculous, as the only time we have to run this errand is on the weekends.

Never never go here! My 2 dogs were done in ONE HOUR! While some people would think that’s awesome, it’s actually a signal that something is very wrong. Their hair cuts were choppy & uneven, but worst of all, my 1 ½ year old had a huge chunk of tissue shaved out of his leg & a clipper burn on his belly.
I trusted Bark Williams because the Unilocal reviews were strong & I was impressed with how well I was treated on the phone when I made my appointment.
Maybe other groomers there are good. The guy there that day is balding with long grey hair. The cut on my dog’s leg was so deep, I’m sure my poor dog screamed & bled like crazy.
A groomer that takes less than 2 – 3 hours is rushing-​it all shows in the hack job my dogs received.

Yorkie used to come to Bark Williams, because Mommie always went to «Burke Williams», and so the Yorkie demands, on occasion a salon day once a month as well. He’s quite demanding that way… and what baby want’s… baby gets.
About the groomers:
Very friendly staff and they are actually very quick! drop of in the AM and most of the time by 2pm Yorkie would be ready for me to pick up.
