Paper Dosa

This is by far the best Indian food in NM served in a trendy fusion style. Mouth watering dishes and service is beyond exceptional. Just too bad its all the way in Santa Fe. They seriously need to open one in Albuquerque that has absolutely any good Indian places anymore that don’t taste like dull buffet meals.

Absolutely the best South Indian food I have eaten in a while. Uttapham and the pakoras were the best.

It’s a nice place. Amazing food… great ambience… friendly staff… Cheese chili dosa was a great combination of Santa Fe chilies with Indian dosa… Ras malai was very fresh rose flavor tinge was surprising…

I have NEVER tasted dosa this yum in the USA. It doesn’t have an overload of oil and the place is spectacularly clean! My husband and I felt elated during the meal for all the good reasons:) perfect chutneys served with the dosa. So was the sambhar:) we ordered the masala dosa and the paper dosa. The chai was absolutely delicious. Being an Indian, I can vouch for and confidently say, if you are in the area and miss this, you are missing a lot my friend ;) this place opens at 5:30pm and was packed by 6:15pm! My husband wants to stay another day, just so we can have dinner here again. Need I say more? No, I don’t know the owners and neither have I been paid to write this. Just on a trip and we never miss to try out Indian food on the way. We are staying back to have dinner here tomorrow before we head back to Colorado. Don’t miss the chai!

Paper Dosa, you are divine. I never would have thought my favorite meal on my last trip to Santa Fe would be Southern Indian, but everything about my experience at Paper Dosa was delicious. From the food, to the atmosphere and the service, my fiancé and I had an all around five star dining experience — and we can’t wait to return.
Let me first start by saying that you’re going to want to order up as many things as you can on the menu. The good news is, you can get a three-​course tasting menu (at a very reasonable price) per person and if you visit with a friend, you can share six dishes of plates across the table.
I started with the Rasam, which to this day I have not stopped craving. It is a spicy food lover’s dream, with very bold flavors of cilantro, tomato, and lots and lots of heat. Seriously, it’s no wonder this thing has its own nickname as the fire broth. I immediately took on the life of a fire-​breathing dragon and I loved every minute of it. I also tried an order of chile and onion pakora, which was a very tasty take on fried onion rings finished with a little lemon and eggplant chutney for dipping. I also tried the sliders, which were surprisingly light and very satisfying. For my paper dosa, I tried the paneer and peas dosa, and my favorite part of the dish was the warm, crêpe-​like outer layer.
I’m a true lover of condiments, and Paper Dosa has a chutney sampler that I paired with everything I had on the menu. My favorite chutney was by far the mango habanero, closely followed by the mint, coconut, and classic tomato.
The flavor, freshness, and flare of all of the dishes I tried at Paper Dosa was outstanding. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and filled with patrons who were enjoying their experience every bit as much as we were. Our service was prompt, reliable, and our server was able to give us some top notch recommendations. True to Indian cuisine, a huge part of their menu is vegetarian and vegan friendly.
Whether you’re a local or are just passing through, I recommend Paper Dosa to anyone who wants to experience a fresh take on excellent Indian dining. Since the last time I have visited, there have been new plates added to the menu that I am, needless to say, very anxious to try.
Long distance relationships are hard, but I’m willing to go the extra mile for you, Paper Dosa. Keep serving those delicious dishes and I’ll keep coming back for more.

Nothing else but wonderful things about this restaurant. Impeccable service, amazing food, nice ambience, great location with plenty parking. Prices a bit on the high end but when I tasted the dishes it was totally worth it and I CAN’T WAIT to go back!!!

I just had my first dinner at Paper Dosa, and I was so impressed with everything! As a longtime resident of Santa Fe we certainly have our pick in dining experiences, and I am quite happy about this new addition. The food was exquisite with novel flavors and beautiful presentation. The serving staff was very friendly, prompt and helpful in understanding the menu.
The prices do not represent your standard Indian buffet range, yet they’re totally worth it for a fun dining night out.
There is ample parking in a convenient location.
I look forward to my next visit.

We saw the advertisement in Santa Fean, decided to give it a try. I’m glad we did. Called a day ahead to make reservation but was told that they don’t take reservation for party less that six. We were told to come first thing at opening hour at 5:30pm. We arrived at 5:15pm and was already third or forth groups waiting in the vestibule. At 5:30pm we were friendly greeted and promptly seated. Our waiter gave us a few recommendations which we gladly tried. My husband and I both ordered from tasting menu. First course, we ordered chennai chicken and chile & onion pakora; second course, we ordered mushroom medley uttapam and paneer peas dosa; third course, we ordered Tamil lamb curry and prawn masala. All very good.
My favorite of all is the mushroom medley. Oh so flavorful! The taste is to die for!
My daughter ordered Green chile and cheese dosa with chile on the side. It was an okay taste. The chile was very spicy though. Still, good food.
Overall, it’s not cheap but experience was great. Dishes were nicely done. The sauces came with the dishes were all incredible. We will return again for fine Indian food!

If you like indian food at all, go. The chile and onion pakora are the lightest, crispiest pakora I’ve ever had, deliciously oniony and a perfect starter. The dosa are heavenly, light and crispy and an excellent vessel for classic masala or kick ass lamb keema (seriously, this lamb is worth the trip on it’s own, tender meaty chunks of yum) and a side of raitha brings everything else together. Portions aren’t massive, but they are satiating. There’s beer and wine, and the place is always busy, so I recommend going either early or late.

Spending a week in New Mexico was a great way to enjoy the amazing local cuisine and scenic hikes (more on that in other reviews).
I looked forward to eating nothing but New Mexican dishes with local chile sauces and the taste and texture of blue corn.
I was expecting to dine on dishes influenced by Native Americans and not Indian (India) cuisine which is so abundant where I live… but when Paper Dosa was highly recommended by a family member who has never let me down, I couldn’t pass.
Paper Dosa turned out to be a rare gift.
We tried an appetizer, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts and they were all home runs.
For starters, we had Chennai Chicken (a fried natural chicken marinated in yogurt and spices served with creamy sauce on the side). This light, non-​greasy, and slightly spicy dish got us off to a great start.
Our 3 excellent entrees were…
Classic Masala Dosa (an Indian crêpe made from a fermented rice and lentil batter — filled with potatoes, turmeric, caramelized onions, whole red chiles, mustard seeds and cashews)
Mushroom Medley Uppatam (an Indian pancake” made from a fermented rice and lentil dosa batter and sautéed bunapi, bunashimeji, king trumpet, king oyster and maitake mushrooms).
Prawn Masala (fried prawns served with a tomato, red onion and cashew nut based curry)
For dessert we had
Rasmalai (two small patties of fresh farmer’s cheese soaked in sweet cream, rosewater, cardamom and garnished with pistachios and dried rose petals)
Beetroot Halwa & Saffron Vermicelli Payasam (fresh beetroot cooked down in a cardamom sweet cream tops a creamy vermicelli payasam with cashew nuts and golden raisins) — This dish was a work of art on the eyes and the palate.
Our appetizer and entrees were all healthy, non-​greasy, high in protein and fiber (beans, beans, beans), and gluten free (for those who care).
Service was outstanding… but then service was exceptional everywhere we stayed and ate in New Mexico!
TIP: Finding the place can be tricky especially at night. It’s not very visible from the street… so if you use navi to get there, drive VERY SLOWLY as you approach it. They have a small lot.

VEGAN EATER HERE. Paper Dosa is. FULL on, OMFG!!! Have been wanting to try this place for ages, almost since we moved away from Santa Fe. The food is beyond amazing, luscious, BRILLIANT, creative, fresh, swoon worthy and just plain wonderful. The casually stylish room with a bar you can stuff yourself at while watching the insanity in the kitchen was filled with very happy campers at 5:30pm and we’re told goes on till closing. The closest comparison to quality and inventiveness would be Mission Chinese in San Francisco which rocks in its own way. Just try everything, but don’t miss the enormous dosas, the curries are transcendent and the velvety corn soup will make you return tomorrow. We are!!!

I can’t tell you how badly I wish this Indian restaurant was in Denver! But alas, it is in Santa Fe!
My girlfriend and I ate dinner here while on vacation, and every bite was absolutely perfect. First tip, I’d recommend getting there right at 5:30 when they open. We arrived at 5:40 on a Thursday and the only seating available was at the bar. We didn’t want to wait for a table, so we sat at the bar, which was enjoyable since we got to watch the food be prepared in the open kitchen. We ordered beer, an appetizer (Pakora), and two main courses (Classic Masala Dosa and veggie curry). I’ve eaten at a handful of Indian restaurants, but this one by far is my favorite. I can see why they are so busy! I would go here all the time if it were closer! Also, the food was very affordable, so there’s no reason to not go if you are in the area.

Oh Paper Dosa — every visit is an absolute pleasure. The masala dosa and veggie curry are incredible. As is the chai.

The food here was wonderful and the service was uniformly excellent. The only issue I had, and it’s a minor one, was that the tables were really jammed into the small space and I felt like I was knocking elbows with the table next to me – that made it loud and a little uncomfortable.
The food more than made up for it, however!

And it has come to this!
Paper Dosa does it very well. Though I haven’t tried everything on their menu, I will say, pick any (or all) and you will be satisfied. They have so many delicious choices, (we passed our plates around the table so we can try everyone’s pick).
So you arrive and it is busy, if it is sunny have a seat on their wonderful patio, or sit inside and enjoy the smells and sounds of this busy restaurant.
We had to wait at the bar the first time, but the second time we strolled right in. The hostess is very pleasant and loves to see the place she works with many people smiling from ear to ear.
I ordered the lamb keema the first time with a cashew calamari starter. Both great flavors and will fill you to the brim! The second time we ordered the Chennai Chicken, you will NEED to order this. The tastes that shoot off the chicken are so wonderful and I followed it with a Paper Masala. Both times the entire table was happy as can be with the delicious selections. The staff is efficient, the place is spotless and the food is very memorable.

This place serves up a delicious cuisine unlike anything else in Santa Fe, and the ambiance inside is great — reminding me of hip places in larger cities. The biggest drawback is the popularity of the place can make it crowded.
I really like the three-​cheese dosa which is like a play on a grilled cheese. However, the dosa itself is sour and savory and plays off the sweetness of the cheese they melt inside quite nicely. The prawn curry I had was also delicious, with the prawns cooked perfectly and the curry having a nice spice to it.
Santa Fe is better for having this great restaurant.

Five stars for the food, but fewer for the service because the place was packed and seemed to be struggling with an inadequately-​sized kitchen and/​or staff (seems like it has upper crust hippie Santa Fe and tourist appeal because of the location, as well as the fact that it has good vegetarian options and weird New Agey and yoga people have a hard-​on for all things India because of exoticization of Eastern cultures).
That said, the food was delicious, and was the best Southern food that I’ve had since eating it at a South Indian person’s house.
Prices are reasonable, and two entrees, an appetizer, and drinks ended up costing about $ 22 – 24 per person pre-​tip.
