Inn of the Governors

I love this place. Great rooms and wonderful décor! We came with three kids, we all loved staying here. The breakfast is amazing! Everyone is so nice. Great Santa Fe vibe! You can beat the price of this place. Great coffee! We are coming back

I ve stayed here several times on my to Texas. This trip I paid a little extra to get a room with a fireplace. It was well worth the extra $. The room was beautiful with adobe fireplace and an endless pile of piñon wood to keep the fire glowing! The location is perfect within a couple of blocks of the Walking to the plaza. The free breakfast is amazing, grab a table by the fireplace in the dining area!

I don’t know, Fodor’s, I’m not convinced.
I got some swanky room at the end of a long hallway, upgraded to a fireplace. I don’t know, there’s something really old smelling about the room I was in. It was like staying in your grandma’s guestroom that was made up 5 years ago, and hadn’t been touched since then. I’m forgiving with the first spider, but three spiders and I’m wondering if I should go back to the Inn at the Alameda. Haven’t you watch Arachnophobia? How do I know that the spider that I just crushed with my boot doesn’t have a cousin spider in the curtain that just watched me kill it, and will hunt me down while I’m vulnerable and asleep? Well, 2 sleeping pills later, luckily I’m alive to write this review. By the way, the complimentary breakfast was disgusting. I shoved some eggs and sad potatoes around on my plate, and left after 2 bites.

We stayed at the hotel one night. It was a quaint, homey, and classy boutique hotel with an attached restaurant. Restaurant is GREAT! I had the black bean burger and it was one of the best I’ve had. In the late afternoon, they served sherry and tea by the fire in the lobby. We also enjoyed the artwork throughout the hotel. We hope to come back someday!

Very nice, good quality, clean but our room was a little small. Great free breakfast buffet. The only thing I didn’t like was the hotel restaurant in the evening. It was very noisy (loud music and people trying to talk over the music). I ordered a side of guacamole and he didn’t bring any chips with it. When I said where’s the chips, he said, «Oh, you want chips?». Plus I didn’t like the margaritas. I would say come here but find someplace else to eat dinner.

This is a cute quaint hotel. My room was a little small but I think there are larger ones. Staff is very nice and helpful and the attached saloon has great bar food. The breakfast is also nice — great assortment. The hotel is in a great location for walking around to see the sights.

I had an awesome stay. There’s nothing better than afternoon sherry! The Inn has a homey feel and the staff is so accommodating!

A friendly staff that’s not too nosey, as well as an unsecured wireless network, make the Inn of the Governors the perfect hangout for an entrepreneur on a budget. I have found that many of the other inns and hotels in the area do not take kindly to non-​hotel guests, but the Inn of the Governors does not seem to discriminate on that basis.

Good Times in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The four of us arrived early and were able to check into one of our two rooms. Nicely appointed, cozy with two Queen beds and pillows. They were perfect and we slept very well. Breakfast was more than fantastic. The Chef carefully prepared a meal that was so fresh and flavorful. Artfully done and manned by friendly service. So much more than just a Breakfast Buffet. The Hotel Staff were friendly and helpful and guided us to some of the best restaurants in town. Located a few blocks from the Plaza, Churches and shopping. Everything was near walking distance. If walking isn’t for you or you are looking for something interesting to do. Take one of the guided driving tours. Gives a good sample of the history, places to visit, shop and eat. We took a shuttle from the Lamy, NM train station and never had the need for a car.
Highly recommend the Santa Fe playhouse. We saw ‘Bench Warmers 14′ and loved all the skits. My favorite was Visible, with Patent Pending a close second.
One star down as the pool was under construction at the time and it was never mentioned.

Gave it a 4star for one of their staff member Charlene (I believe that was her name), so friendly and always asking if help is needed!!! Kudos to her, they should recognize her!!! Location was great, rooms ok but they need to inprove on their parking facility. We were afraid to leave the hotel in the evening, fearing we would not have a parking space when we came back. The free buffet breakfast was a plus. No pool as they were renovating it, very small looking one though.

Hey, here’s an interesting idea that will guarantee to give your patron a morning wake-​up call so they’ll check out early and let your housekeepers start cleaning! Have them stay right across the housekeeper’s closet and deploy the cleaning crew to start banging things around at 7:30am — 8:00am in the morning!
We stayed at the Inn of the Governors and had no idea room 253 would be one of the worst deluxe room experiences to be had. I should have thought twice about staying across the hall from the Housekeeper’s supply room since they start banging doors and chatting loudly so early in the morning, that there’s just no way you’d have a peaceful Sunday morning at this hotel. Being woken up on a Sunday morning by loud banging noise of the staff is bad but it’s even worse when it’s actually one of the few weekends I take for a getaway vacations. All tainted by this hotel stay experience.
To top it off, I went down to raise this issue with the front desk lady whose only excuse about this early morning unsolicited wake-​up call is «yes, they do start pretty early.» There was no apology nor any attempt to empathize with me as a guest who’ve just paid a few bucks shy of $ 300 for the deluxe room with the crappiest customer service.
It’s pretty apparent that you can’t expect a top-​notch customer service from this hotel. Luckily there’s also plenty of other good hotels around here where I can choose to bring my business and not have to deal with this poor hospitality attitude of the Inn of the Governors.

Everything else being equal, a friendly, hard working staff makes staying here special… they make you feel like family and are enjoyable to talk to… those are the memories that will remain for me…

full disclosure, my folks were the ones who stayed here, but did visit them several times at the hotel, so here’s my .02–
You get what you pay for, which is actually a very comfortable seeming room, cozy but spacious enough for two, über close to the plaza without paying plaza prices, and some of the best biscochitos you will find on either side of the Rio Grande. Seriously, you damn well better be hitting up that lobby for those cookies, they must be sprinkled with fairy dust or something like that…
Wife worked fine, water was hot, my folks said the room was plenty warm during the night (they were staying in Dec, and it was CHILLY!), and everything was clean on arrival, and after maid service.
all in all, seems like a decent place if you want to save a few bucks but still be treated well… oh, and it’s right on top of one of the coolest restaurants in SF, Del Charro Saloon, you basically have the best burger in SF right outside your room!

A true gem!
Hotel is lovely; friendly staff, a nice pool, a delicious breakfast and Sherry /​teatime from 4 to 5 PM each day is a nice touch. Free parking and walking distance to everything makes this the perfect place to stay when in Santa Fe. Truthfully, the only thing this hotel is missing is a gym. (No big deal though.) This lovely hotel can’t be beat for the price. FYI: If you’re coming in the winter and you tend to get chilly, request one of the rooms with the fireplace. Our room was warm enough without the fireplace. However, folks that we chatted with thought it was a great touch.

Location places you within walking of everything historic downtown Santa Fe has to offer. We loved the setting, furnishings and charm of the Inn. Flowers line balcony rails, filtered water flows from a font near reception. An elevator or stairs takes us up to 2^nd floor where room 237 king size w frig and delightful Kiva fireplace. Ready to light w dry wood n more on wood pile in hall. Mmmmmm. The bar has a restaurant and a huge breakfast buffet will tempt. We tried to find something we didn’t like. Truly, I only can recommend three large bath towels; not two… would have made this perfect. The street noise might be a bit much if a motor is revving.

I always try to stay here when I visit Santa Fe and the one time I stayed at the nearby Hilton, I spent the whole visit craving this hotel. It’s adorably cute, impeccably friendly, welcoming, and convenient. It’s located a few blocks from the central Santa Fe plaza. And there are little touches. Included breakfast with green chile scrambled eggs, and the usual continental items, bacon, and meat, and on a special day, chilequiles with more green chile. And fresh juice. And coffee.
And there is a free sherry tastings every day from 430 to 530. And a pool. And a homey rustic feel. And flower pots everywhere. And free parking. What’s not to love?

Staff was rude and unresponsive. Ken at front desk refused to honor a $ 15.00 credit (offered on website and confirmed during booking) in the restaurant located on site. While trying to explain that it was confirmed during booking he became boisterous and interrupted several times.
We arrived early and they stated are room would be ready shortly offering to call when ready. The call never happened and as stated above it was all down hill from there.
There are other great places to stay I’m Sante fe that know how to treat a guest.

We stayed here while in town for a wedding. We stayed in a room with a fireplace. Even though it wasn’t cold out, we would have fires in our room. The wood burns very quickly and it doesn’t put off a lot of heat, so it is just a nice ambience type of thing. Also, the morning breakfast was pretty good. We stayed 5 nights and the breakfast would vary daily. My one complaint is the bathroom is pretty small. It was hard to move around for two people trying to get ready. Other than that, a great hotel.

The room was kind of tiny, even though it had a wood-​burning fireplace, but the staff were very friendly and the breakfast buffet was the best I’ve had in a hotel! We’ll be back!

My actual rating is a 4.5. Unless you go to a private B&B I don’t think you will find a better value on plaza accommodations. You might find fancier or more luxurious, but you won’t find the value.
The service here is excellent, and the whole inn has a lovely homey ambiance. The superior upstairs room in which we stayed was very comfortable and attractive with good furnishings, a mini fridge, and a nice kiva fireplace that I was too scared to use (though many do, as the place has a nice firewood smell most of the time, much more pleasant than cigarette smoke).
The only two dings I have to make against the room are that the mattress could have been newer and more comfortable (it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great either), and that our first morning there was no hot water at 8 am (but, future mornings we had plenty of hot water, so it might have been a fluke).
One thing that was nice, they had a lot of bottled water and only charge $ 1 a bottle for it. I found the tap water not unpleasant so I used that, but I was impressed that they didn’t charge $ 3 – 5 bucks a bottle like most hotels.
Wi-​fi is free, and though it did go down periodically, worked most of the time. It wasn’t super speedy but it was sufficient. They also have PCs in the hallway and in the lobby (though the hallway PC had a printer next to it, it wasn’t connected and w/​o admin privileges you can’t connect it… so if you need to print, use the lobby printer).
If you book directly with the hotel you can get $ 15 a day credit for the bar and restaurant, which is paid in the form of a discount on your bill when you check out (in other words, pay as normal in the bar/​restaurant and write your room # on the bill so they credit you). This worked flawlessly when we visited the bar our first night. Our waitress was very friendly and the bar was really comfy with big armchairs to sit in. My sangria was decent though not amazing, my honey enjoyed his beers. Honestly I would have been there every night except for being tired and dehydrated and usually overfull from a big delicious supper somewhere else in Santa Fe. Our new friend Jonathon says that the Del Charro restaurant has «the best burgers and beer in town». We didn’t eat a meal here but I thought I would pass that on. Certainly the bar is popular, it was packed — and Santa Fe seems to have no nightlife to speak of so this is the place to be.
We never had trouble finding parking in the lot. Parking is free for guests, which, if you walk around the plaza on your visit (which I never did, but had planned on) would be SUPER convenient.
They serve sherry, tea, and really good cookies at 4pm in the lobby. We partook of this one day, and it was very good. The other days we weren’t there at 4pm unfortunately.
The pool was heated, though we didn’t use it, we could see steam coming off it and it was spotlessly clean.
All in all, this is a great value inn with amazing restaurants nearby (Tomme next door!) and insanely close to the plaza. If the beds were newer I’d easily give them a 5 star rating, but honestly the beds aren’t bad enough to dissuade me from staying here again. I absolutely would if I wanted to be right near the plaza.
