History

Established in 1941.

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico is a locally operated nonprofit organization. Serving New Mexicans since 1941 means that Goodwill is vested in our community. Each year we help thousands of individuals secure permanent employment and access much needed social services.

With 14 thrift stores across the state, Goodwill is good for you and good for New Mexico! 92-​cents of every dollar spent goes towards the nine programs and services that are offered free to our state’s residents. So making a purchase or donation, not only helps you, it also helps neighbors in need.

I do a lot of thrift shopping, and as far as goodwill’s go this one was pretty good. Prices are comparable to Goodwill’s everywhere. Yes there are some interesting smells, and not everything was quality, but I spent a fun half hour in here with my family. The clothing selection was pretty good, and there were quite a few random pieces of pottery. I got a nice glazed vase/​planter for $ 5, and my brother found some new CDs.

Your basic goodwill. Good selection, reasonable prices, good service. Sorry but it was a mess in there, and this store is one where the clothes are organized by color, but not by size. If you’re looking for something specific, you’ll have to dig through the racks in order to find your size, which can be a lot of work.

We love shopping at Goodwill but…
We are noticing that the prices are getting higher and do not reflect the community they are in.
Also, it would be wonderful if the items were more organized and presented in more attractive manner.

This is a big store with lots of stuff. A lot of clothes and furniture. Not a lot if jewelry or artwork. The restroom is in good shape and you dont need to look for a key to get in. There’s a parking lot but its tight and on a saturday afternoon it was packed.

This Goodwill seems to get a bad rap. I was pleased with this store. Dirtier than most but a nice selection of both old and new and some great failed art pieces.
I found a vintage dress from Hawaii, a pair of skis and a vintage leather purse. The Hubs found a ton of records.
Prices were a bit high (all dresses are $ 10) and the clothes were arranged by color and not size, which is annoying. The staff were very nice and helpful. Even the shoppers were friendly. I struck up a conversation with a nice group of ladies who okayed the skis and recommended some lunch places. Turns out they were from the Midwest.

Being an avid thrift shopper, I’m extremely disappointed in this store. It’s way too expensive too. What they want for a tshirt, no way!

My 5-​stars are for the employees. As a professional shopper & reseller I have been to a lot if thrift stores, and imho the staff at this stote are almost always polite (even to parents who let their children run wild), and always helpful.
If you need assistance the best managers to talk to are Charles and Jim.
As to merchandise, they are a thrift store. They only provide things donated to them.

Pretty much your basic Goodwill. They are the same in every town… like McDonalds… very consistent.
Clean (ish), some-​what organized.
This particular Goodwill seemed to pull from perhaps a lower-​income donation base. A lot of the clothes were brands that come from Wal-​Mart, Target, Penney’s & the like. You’re probably not going to find a Valentino dress hiding in the racks, but you never know :-)
Prices are affordable.
Not much vintage, but a lot of Goodwills are skimming the vintage out before it gets to the stores and trying to sell it online.

BEFORE YOU DONATE ANYTHING HERE-​READ THIS
For those of us who believe that we should donate our gently used goods to a thrift store so that others can can get some further use from these items and a worthy organization benefit, DO NOT BRING ANYTHING HERE. We brought boxes of great stuff from a huge neighborhood garage sale — pottery barn martini glasses, crate & barrel dishes, books. We filled the back of a big pick-​up truck with stuff that had we been willing to stay open past noon on Saturday probably would have sold — all packed carefully so that the glasses wouldn’t break, etc. Then we watched the ‘workers’ put boxes of books on top of new lamp shades, dump the glassware into bins, and generally destroy at least 50% of what we brought. If you wonder why their stuff is pretty meager inside, I think I know why — it is way more important to the workers to dump the donations into bins that they can move around with a forklift than to try to preserve anything in a saleable condition. Next time — Salvation Army, Barking Boutique, Open Hands, any of the number of worthy organizations in Santa Fe that may actually WANT your donations.

One of the worst Goodwill shops I’ve seen in terms of stuff for sale. I even saw a rusted grater on the shelves — seriously people!!! I did see one Staffordshire china cup for 99 cents (hideous) and an occupied Japan serving bowl for $ 3.99. Where do all the wealthy people of Santa Fe donate their stuff???

I was sooooo disappointed with this Goodwill. I guess I’m spoiled by the ones in my home area — possibly because they pull from high-​end neighbourhoods and always have great stuff to find. Sadly, this one in Santa Fe just wasn’t that way.
It was medium sized, and had a lot of shoes. Sadly all those shoes were worn out looking. The clothes were very much «old lady» clothes for the most part. Mum and I did find a few cotton gauze skirts (in NM in the summer we found we *really* hadn’t packed enough lightweight clothing!), but I couldn’t find any tops that I even liked.
Mum took her stuff to the register, told them she qualified for the senior discount, and on request pulled out her ID by request to verify that. and the teller rang everything up without the discount. Of course, once she’d hit «total» she couldn’t then add the discount, so she had to call a manager over to void the sale, and start over.
By this time I’d finished trying on a dress I decided not to get, Mum was done. She offered to take my stuff to the register too, to get the discount again. And guess what, not only did the (same) teller show NO signs of recognizing my mother, she asked her for her ID to prove she qualified for the discount … and then rang it all up without the discount and had to call over the manager to void the sale …
Seriously, I love thrift store shopping, but this place was SO not worth the time we spent — even if we did get a couple of new skirts for the rest of the trip.
