I recently got my stockish lancer gts dyno tuned by RICK. Amazing job! My car feels way better. He is very knowledgeable and a very chill dude. I definitely recommend him and his shop to everyone, you won’t be let down.

Excellent place with quality work and friendly staff. They work with you to get you what you need and don’t need. Explains any problems and provides solutions. Willing to listen instead of forcing and adds recommendations.

Great down to earth shop and they don’t try to rip you off like other places. They know their dsm’s and from now on i will be coming back here.

RRE is awesome, got my car tuned by Rick and the car ran amazing. A few weeks later I tightened up some clamps and fixed a boost leak so the car was running a little more boost causing it to lean out and have ignition knock. I took the car back to Rick and he made some slight adjustments and the car runs extremely well now. Their shop is super friendly and it’s always a fun place to be. Gus and Rick were talking to me and giving me advice on what parts and maintenance would be good for my car. Really good group of guys and they are the best when it comes to Evos. be patient though, they’re a very busy shop due to their awesome reputation, but in the end they will always take care of you.

I bought a used Nissan 350z from some kid that had it about an inch off the ground. After bottoming out my sports car endlessly at 2 mph, I had had it.
After visiting a few places that did not want to touch my suspension, I decided to take some Unilocaler advice and make the trek down to Road Race. Not only were Matt and Mike helpful about getting me in on my day off, they also ordered parts in advance to save me a trip down there.
Upon inspection Matt discovered that the car not only had low springs but also aftermarket shocks. Being active in the racing world he found me an avid drifter that was anxious to swap me his stock springs and shocks as an even trade. Road Race saved me money on parts and was so knowledgable from start to finish. I’m much happier now.
Two words of warning, they aren’t the cheapest, but they are known for doing the job right. As I mention because of their connections and resourcefulness I ended up only paying half of what I had expected. Second, they are VERY busy. On their website they warn you about good times to call, and that you should only drop by between certain hours. If you have patience this place will work for you. If you don’t then you may need to try elsewhere.
Highly highly recommend Road Race.

this is a long overdue review, but a very well deserving one. They have service and tuned my Evo X several time in the past. They are known for the reputation in the Mitsubishi world especially Evos. Mike and his crew definitely keep your car running at it top notch and they work late just to make sure my car is running right. I been through shops that just tell me to come back another day and was closing exactly at their closing time… RRE tell you to stay and they will work on your car until it done; even at 10PM at night! I will drive back here any day from San Diego for their amazing work and tuning. Thanks guys

Tried calling the shop, they seemed to have picked up and hung up on me 4 times. What’s going on? I’ve been there before and the lady answering the phone isn’t THAT busy.

Great shop to get somethings installed and also get a tune. I highly recommend this place.

I went RRE this week get my fmic and piping installed. And the new tune makes car runs so much better. They take care your car. If you have a mitsubishi RRE is the shop for you. I will be definitely coming back!

Friend got his Evo X tuned here and at first, the service was really bad. A lot of people were waiting past their appointment times, many technicians were late to work, and their waiting room was a mess.
When a technician was finally available, he (Rick) told us that he had to go home for about 1 – 2 hours and pay his bills — and then he would start with the tune. My friend and I were like «WTF» and I was about to leave this place a really negative review until Rick suggested that my friend give him a ride to his house and he’d road tune his Evo on the way (pretty cool because you can feel your car going faster while driving and it’s cheaper than a dyno tune).
Rick was one of the most knowledgeable guys I’ve ever met and I learned so much about tuning/​cars that day. After the tune, he even gave my friend and I a ride in his crazy 1,000,000 HP Evo IX (which I swear is the fastest mother fu! kin car I’ve been in).
The quality of the technicians’ work and their knowledge about tuning easily outweigh any negatives about Road Race Engineering. Hands down, best place to get your Mitsubishi tuned.

We’ve (Bf and I) brought both our Evo VIII and Evo X to this shop throughout the years; since 2007 to be exact. They know their Evo’s really well. Whether it’s a boost leak, transmission issue, slipping clutch or just general car knowledge — they have always helped us figure out all of our «race car» problems. They do an excellent job with installation, etc. I wouldn’t trust any other car shop with such complicated engines haha.
Off the top of my head I can remember Sam and Rick for being über knowledgable and helpful. Each of the employees has helped us just can’t think of their names. Mike and Rick are excellent at tuning.
Do call as soon as you encounter an issue since you require an appointment for diagnostics, though. Other than sometimes having to wait a few days to get the beasts in, this place is great. RRE FTW!

They specialize in Evos nd and have been working on them for a very long time. Overall fast service & great family operated team. Will have to come back for the exedy stage 2, when my clutch starts slipping lol.

Sam and Rick are very helpful and have great attitude to provide only the best customer service. They know what they are talking about and they have the credibility and experience to back it up. So far my experience with RRE is great. They are a very busy shop but the boys there work very hard on each car to make sure that they have exceed their customers expectations. I would recommend anyone that need to get their Mitsubishi Evo or DSM work done to this shop. Hit them up in the afternoon or late at night. You will be surprised to see that Mike and Honda still at the shop after 9 pm.

Been here twice for my 08 Evo X GSR. This place knows service I tell you what. I came here when I first got my car due to a suspension squeal coming from under the car and these guys threw it on the lift and gave me a diagnosis with red bull as payment. Turns out the previous owner put a stabilizer bar that was too big on it and its rubbing the engine mount. I didn’t get it fixed but the level of service I got was good.
Second time I came back was 12÷4÷13, almost a year later for maintenance. Normally this is something I’d do myself, but I just wasn’t feeling it so I brought it here. I was in and out in about an hour. Gus, the shop manager, I believe, is a really cool guy, he was giving me updates and they even let me know about a few minor issues that they found while they were under the car (under tray, some other stuff). This place is priced pretty fairly for their services and its cool because they know these cars in and out.
They do the drivetrain fluid change with Redline products and so now my car shifts better than before, it eliminated the notchiness in the shifter.
I did find myself getting a little bored at the shop but started shooting the breeze with some of the other guys getting work there done. It would be cool if there were some other stuff to do in the area, but there isn’t, so you should bring some entertainment if you are gonna be here a while (or you could just listen to them dyno tune cars, because that’s pretty sweet).
I am a happy customer and will definitely be coming back.

Robert and Matt were extremely helpful during a recent visit for the 60k service on my Mitsubishi Evo. Here are a few of the highlights:
1) They were happy to answer all my questions, some more naïve than others
2) They helped me scavenge a couple trim pieces from totaled cars to fix broken plastic bits on my own car (no charge)
3) The service cost a couple hundred dollars less than the quote I got from South Bay Mitsubishi
Overall, it was a great experience. I will be back.

My husband is has a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and he got me a ralliart sportback soon after we were married last year. When I first got it, I was a little disappointed because I did not feel that the car was too much better than my Civic before even with the fancy Recaro package and all the other options. We took it in to RRE for a tune up and they did their magic to it with some adjustments. I really enjoyed the car so much more after they fine tuned it for me, there was a big difference.
Since then, I have sent a friend in with her old Eclipse. Even though her car wasn’t a fancy race car like the other cars there, they fixed up her old Eclipse and gave a second life to a beater that she had since the 90s.
If you have a Mitsubishi, this is a great place to go! My husband knew about RRE from the mid-​90s, so they have been around for a long time and they know their stuff.
As for the other review about «the huge fat Mexican guy with glasses,» his name is Honda Robert and he is a big reason I feel comfortable going there because he treats ladies like a total gentleman. A lot of car places are huge headaches for women to go to because the mechanics treat it like their personal dating service. At Road Race all the mechanics have been super polite to me.
Honda Robert is a well loved fixture in the car community and I have never had anything but a great experience with him. It is uncool to make jabs about his weight and call him an idiot, it says more about the person posting the negative comments than about Honda Robert himself.

Road Race Engineering was originally modeled to be the US version of Kansai Service, Japan. Their relationship with HKS USA took an unexpected turn as they lost their support after a former employee partnered with them to create the business.
Since opening, RRE (as it’s more commonly known) has established themselves as unequaled in the industry for the areas of which they specialize. They are best known for their work with Mitsubishi cars, but have worked closely with many race teams, both on and off road. The company has since spawned off-​shoots like Road Race Chasis, Road Race Motorsports and the unfortunate abortion of a douche, Mullerized who lives in a shallow box filled with anger, excuses and FAIL. (sorry, that’s another review)
Customer service as road race is poor. Several of their sales staff have the attitude that they think they know more then you by way of the company’s reputation. I avoid them as much as I can. If you must deal with them, be direct and to the point, have you part number ready and don’t ask «what if/​day dreamer questions.»
Ordering through RRE online is always good. They are quick to ship parts as long as they are in stock.
Getting an appointment with RRE is often a challenge. The wait list can be long and arduous. Not always, but frequently.
The quality of work at road race is simply unsurpassed. I personally do not trust dealerships to work on my cars. I do all my own work because I want it done right the first time and not thrown together by some HS drop out who managed who’s dad’s brother’s uncle’s son knew someone who owed his GF a favor and so they hired the guy to change oil. These guys do it right the first time. They don’t man-​handle installs and they are innovative as hell when it comes to making customizations work.
One of the things I appreciate most about RRE is that they DO make mistakes. It’s not often, but it has happened. Something may break during an install, someone forgets to put fluid in a transmission, whatever. Road Race is a shop who will take responsibility! Operator error and defective products aside, if someone goes wrong and it’s their fault, they are quick to own up to it and resolve the issue. They aren’t going to make ludicrous excuses as to some phantom cause, they just absorb the cost and move on. This is the mark of a well established shop. If ever I get in over my head, I trust road race with any/​all of my cars.
There’s only one winner in a race. And only one shop that can be the best. That’s this one.
