Established in 1993.

User-​Friendly Computing has provides expert computer service and repair for all PC, Macintosh, and Laptop Computers. Having worked for a number of other computer service companies, Peter Huemer recognized a real need for experienced, high-​quality, local computer service in Santa Cruz. Today, we provide reliable, on-​site service throughout the county, including Watsonville, Scotts Valley, Aptos, Capitola, Felton, Salinas, Los Gatos, and Carmel. Our repair shop is open Weekdays 8am-​6pm and Saturdays 10am-​4pm, and we can complete most shop repairs within 24 hours.

Business Owner

Peter Huemer has over 30 years of experience in computer consulting. His background includes extensive knowledge, training, and experience in network and system design, integration, and deployment. Peter is works with all major PC operating systems, LAN/​WAN topologies, hardware, and groupware applications, including Netware, Windows NT/​2000/​2003/​2008/​2012, Exchange, as well as other groupware and virtualization platforms. Some of Peter’s past successes include deployments and support at Los Gatos Christian Church, City and County of San Francisco, San Jose State University, Stanford Linear Accelerator, City of Livermore, City of Newark, and the Veteran’s Administration. Peter also has extensive experience in server and database migration, and has provided support and guidance for hundreds of businesses seeking to maximize productivity via their Information Technology infrastructure.

I experienced blue screen crashing on my PC and took it first to ClickAway in the Sash Mill for their free diagnostic. After 2 days of not hearing from them, I called to check and was told that the crashing was due to multiple viruses and malware, that I had corrupt system processes, that my hard drive was about to fail, and a few other problems, with a total of $ 800+ required to repair (I paid $ 650 for the PC).
I thanked them for the free diagnostic, and walked my PC over to User-​Friendly Computing on River Street. Eric told me a diagnostic would cost $ 50, which could be put toward the cost of any required repairs. I left the PC with him, and he called me 4 hours later saying one of 2 RAM modules had a failure and could not be read nor written to. Cost to repair: $ 40 for a new RAM module + $ 99 labor (1 hr.), and he could have it done by that evening if I needed it. I authorized the repair and a next-​day pickup, and am happily writing this review on my PC.

DO NOT COME HERE.
I brought my lap top in to have the fan replaced. The technician who took my computer was very polite and had me fill out a form detailing that I needed my fan replaced. He estimated the cost which turned out to be very accurate (around $ 140 for parts and labor).
HERE’S WHY THE 1 STAR RATING: When I got my computer back they had replaced the fan as they said, but also went in and altered my start-​up settings and other software and even installed new software! At no point did I request or give them permission to alter any software on my computer. I had a purely hardware issue. Beyond turning on the computer to confirm installation of the part there was no need to alter anything that I had set. I am so annoyed at this blatant disregard for my privacy. They had my phone number and were in contact with me throughout the repair and could easily have asked if I wanted this service.
I will never come here again.

I highly recommend User Friendly Computing. We use them in our business as well as personal computers. They are very easy to talk to regardless of your IT expertise. They have great follow through and customer service. Their rates are very fair and I even called them afterwards with a minor issue and they helped me fix it over the phone without an additional charge.

My son took in his $ 300 laptop to have it looked at. They said it would be $ 50 to look at it and probably another 45 to repair it. I would consider that an estimate. He then received a phone call saying it would be $ 150 to repair it or pick it up and still pay the 50. Really? He never would have left it if that estimate was accurate. All they had to say was it could run as high as $ 150 to repair and he would’ve walked out shopping for a new computer. Nice guys huh?

They do a good job of diagnosing problems and getting me rolling again. I have had them work on laptops and I have also had them come to my Real Estate Eight Three One office to take care of issues and I always get results. I would recommend them

They made my computer run better, but they changed all of my settings and didn’t change them back. I had to adjust the screen settings, the noise settings, and the antivirus scan settings. It sucks to have to fix your computer after getting it fixed!

Great help with both data recovery and battery replacement. They stuck to the price they quoted, even though they had to return and reorder the battery, and Matt called me back and completed the work within the time frames he gave me each time. When something went wrong, they worked to fix it; I can’t even THINK of calling another place. Thank you, guys!!!

There is simply no other company in Santa Cruz that I would put the trust of my business and my financial well being of my family into the hands of. I have been using Peter for years, and whether I drop my computer off at their location or pay a weee bit more to have have one of theit techs come out, they leave my business/​home w/​computer problems solved/​fixed everytime. If you want professional, courtious, affordable etc. call them. They rock/​rule/​kickass.

I brought my computer in with serious virus problems. They did not do what I asked only part and charged me for their mistakes and held my computer hostage until I paid the extra amount, taking no responsibility for their own errors. I had trouble with two computers, the second they told me that one was not repairable. It was under warranty and I had to call the company and speak to their tech before they would replace it. The tech immediately figured out that it was fixable and has been doing fine ever since.

This place is great! I had an error on my laptop for about a month and just lived with it… I finally remembered meeting Peter Huemer (the founder and CEO) months ago and still had his card with me. Thank goodness for small favors. I took my laptop in, told them what I had been dealing with — the staff was really nice (they didn’t treat me like an idiot like some other shops will and do) and a day later my laptop was back in my arms and as good as new. Great, great local company and wonderful service!
