Stanford Avenue Automotive began with a simple belief — that there is a better way to operate an Automotive Repair shop. Founder Mike Weaver has spent many long years learning his craft. Mike earned a degree in Automotive Mechanics at Sequoia Vocational Technical College, and earned the distinction of Master Certified Technician from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), in 1996. During this time, Mike developed his dream of opening his own auto repair shop, one that values customer relationships and understands the intangibles that matter to you — reliability, safety, peace of mind, trustworthiness and convenience.

One thing will always remain the same — our mission at Stanford Avenue Automotive is to make getting your vehicle serviced or repaired a more pleasant and less confusing experience.

Stanford Avenue Automotive was first opened in 2003 and currently operates with ASE Certified mechanics, Mike Weaver, and his wife Jennifer.

Mike Weaver started Stanford Avenue Automotive Repair in 2003. A «near» native, Mike has lived in Santa Cruz since the age of 3 and was exposed to cars at an early age since his father owned a tow yard. When he was 14, Mike got a job at a local gas station as a service station technician and started performing oil changes. While working there, someone walked in one day and offered him a spot in the Sequoia Institute of Auto Repair. Mike graduated from Sequoia in 1994 and began working in independent auto repair shops.

My experience here was wonderful. I made an appointment with Jennifer, arrived on time, and the Smog Check started immediately. Everyone was very friendly. I went to visit my daughter, who works across the street, and received a call as soon as the check was complete. When I got back the bill and car were ready for me. They are very efficient. I also got a $ 20 coupon from
Unilocal. The check cost $ 40. What a deal? I would no hesitate to use their services again.

They’re still as great as ever! Stanford Avenue Auto diagnosed and replaced my car’s distributor when it went bad. They kept my car for a couple days because it wasn’t acting up. They wanted to be able to accurately tell that the distributor was bad and not unnecessarily replace any parts.
More recently my girlfriend’s car had gotten broken into, and when she returned the ignition lock would not disengage. They were able to fix it within a day by replacing the ignition lock and cylinder switch.
Both recent repairs were honestly diagnosed and fairly priced! Thanks guys!

My wife and I have used Stanford Ave Auto on several occasions. I cannot say enough nice things about this family owned shop. Mike and his team do an outstanding job getting to the problem, and fast quality work getting it rectified. Jennifer has worked her magic in the front office getting us in quickly. This is super important to us as we have to rent a car when the truck breaks. Not only does she keep the appointments running smoothly, but is very knowledgable when it comes to automotive issues. She had some insight into another problem we wanted looked at, and gave solid information for us to make a decision in regards to when to fix it.
We had the truck in last week after the power steering pump, and then rack and pinion failed. They squeezed us in, got the truck fixed, and back out in 2 days. A couple days later Wife heard a whistle. I called the shop after a busy holiday weekend to ask if something might have gotten knocked loose during the steering repair. They set aside a few minutes the very next day to make sure my wife was safe driving the truck. Turns out the problem went away, and after inspecting everything, told us all seemed well. I expected to pay for their time, but they refused, saying it was all good.
I feel confident in taking our vehicles to this shop. My brother has a saying about auto repair shops. «Cheap, Fast, or good. Pick two.» While I wouldn’t call Stanford cheap, I would call them very fair. Fast and good are a given. Thank you for taking good care of us.

I am definitely going back to this place for any car troubles! The staff are friendly and nice. The price for an oil change is reasonable as well! One thing I will say is that you should make an appointment instead of just walking in because it is a small shop and cannot handle walk ins. The knowledge of the mechanics are abundant and they do not mind you watching them work on your car and they answer any car questions you have. I asked my mechanic what he was doing and what this part was for etc… and he did not seem to mind my questions which are trivial for him. I am definitely recommending this place for my friends to get their car fixed up.

Would give this place 10 stars if I could. Stanford has been my mechanic for years, for both my and my husband’s car. They are honest, inexpensive, and always do great work. Never had a complaint.
A few days ago my truck was vandalized outside their place on a Sunday – someone stole two wheels and a mirror off my truck (not their fault, it was on the street and I hadn’t even told them I had left it. The guy who stole them had exactly the same truck as mine… just rotten luck.)
Got a call first thing in the morning about it from Jennifer, who offered to make the police report for me, and make available the security footage to the police. After a very long complicated couple of days to get new wheels, I took my truck back to get done the original work I had taken it for to begin with. Next day, all fixed, and they picked up the bill because they said I had been through enough.
I don’t think you get better or friendlier or kinder service than that.

These guys are awesome. Just awesome. Prices are competitive, family vibe. One of the mechanics stayed late and time crunched to meet my needs. Stanford and Lloyd’s are the only two places I trust.
I actually brought my car here for an oil change and asked if there was anything else that might need help, as I was expecting to take a long drive. They could have clipped me for anything because I am not car savvy. Anyway, they gave my car a clean bill of health and treated me most politely.

I made an appointment here for a smog check 3 days in advance. Came in today for my appointment to be told that the guy in charge of smog checks was out sick. Little disappointed that they didn’t notify me beforehand, seeing that they asked me for my name and phone number when I made the appointment. However, they recommended me to another place fairly close by, that ended up being cheaper! Thanks!

Came here to get a smog Monday morning @ around 10am on 12÷22÷14. I thought maybe I had the wrong address, but after seeing the pictures, I was at the right location. The place was closed with no visible signs. Maybe they were on vacation for the holidays? But honestly, what type of business closes completely on the 22nd even if it’s December?

If your ever in a bind while on vacation give Stanford a call! This place fit my Ranger in for new front brake pads on a busy day when the shop was packed.
The mechanics had new pads installed in less then an hour and I was back on the road off to half moon bay.

Now, I wish I had found these guys years ago. I had recently bought an older vehicle and the A/​C wasn’t working. After discovering TONS of 5 star reviews on Stanford Avenue Automotive, I called and made an appointment.
Knowing that automotive A/​C systems are complicated and can be expensive to troubleshoot and/​or repair, so I was preparing for a costly bill.
Received a call about an hour after dropping it off and was told someone had unplugged the wiring to the compressor. After they plugged it back in, the system then only needed a re-​charge. That was it? I was expecting to possibly pay for new components and who knows what else.
They could have easily told me I needed something expensive replaced and I wouldn’t known any better.
Few weeks later I brought a 2nd vehicle in for an oil change and smog check.
I asked if they could check to see if it needed a transmission service (automatic trans) and if so, to go ahead and perform this.
Was told it was in great shape and did not need a service. Again they could have made money off of me, but did not.
Included in the oil change is a safety inspection. Checked fluids, brakes, belts, hoses, lights etc. Now I see what all the 100% satisfied customers are talking about. Amazing customer service and skilled mechanics.
I’ve heard back from a couple of friends I had referred to Stanford Avenue Automotive after my experience and they too were blown away as well.

I called to make an appointment for a smog check here (since they have such great reviews and ratings!) but for one it was nearly twice as expensive as it should be — Even with «guaranteed passing» it shouldn’t cost over a hundred dollars!
Secondly, the lady who answered the phone kept interrupting me and didn’t let me tell her what year the vehicle was made — which, it turns out, makes a difference in whether or not an extra bit of difficulty was added in to the process which in turn affects the cost of getting it smogged. A mechanic I spoke to at another company DID inquire what the year was and said that we didn’t need the extra step in our smog!!! The woman who took my call at Stanford Auto ASSUMED we needed that cost and work and dismissed the need to know the year.
So, you be the judge. Is this place worth paying double what you’d pay at another perfectly respectable and caring establishment, and is it worth dealing with rude and misinformed people?

I now have a new local, reliable mechanic! They went above and beyond what any business would do anymore. I didn’t realize I had my brake lamps out until I was pulled over by a police officer. After I couldn’t trouble shoot it with new bulbs and a fuse I decided to use Unilocal and take it to a top notch mechanic. Mike had me be back on the road within minutes and truly provided stellar service. Went to pay something as expected and they said no charge today… thanks again!
