Pacific Blue Inn

Lovely place to stay in downtown Santa Cruz. Super comfy beds, loved the shower! Amazing hospitality and a delicious gourmet made to order breakfast, don’t skip it. Worth the $$$. We arrived after hours & they had all info (room keys, parking info, etc) in a lock box for us! They even had yummy homemade brownies out for patrons in the dining area for a sweet treat in the evening, lovely touch. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in the SC area ;-)

Love this place! Arrived after dark and a little confused on parking and hotel access, however, easily resolved. Room was beautiful, clean and modern. The bed was pure heaven! Make sure to add name to the list for breakfast-​excellent!

Bed and breakfast with a modern touch! We got some super nice banana bread on arrival and their tea selection is excellent. The rooms are new and nicely remodeled but they also feel a bit cold (and windowless). What was surprising is that the place worked for us even though we were traveling with our infant son. I don’t think they specifically cater to babies or families but they were very accommodating and made it work.

This might possibly be one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Seriously LOVED IT! The staff was so helpful, down to earth, nice people. The room was amazing. Super clean, super comfortable. Very contemporary, cool décor. Absolutely loved the bathroom. Never wanted to stop showering in the awesome walk in shower (but since there’s a water shortage, I did keep it quick!). Also a great location. Cannot say enough about this place. Highly, highly recommended!

Such a disappointment!
My parents booked 2 rooms to celebrate my 31^st birthday in Santa Cruz with me and my partner. After confirming dozens of times, Pacific Blue gave my parents’ room away to another customer on the day of their check-​in but still had my room.
The response by the manager was to act hapless and outright deny that we had a reservation despite the fact there was a charge for 2 rooms on the account, despite confirmations, & the printed receipts, and my check-​in slip clearly indicating 2 rooms with 4 guests altogether. Terrible customer service, really put a major dent in my birthday. The only other available room in Santa Cruz on a weekend lacked the amenities the Pacific Blue provided. It was a terrible mistake that our room was given away but so much worse that someone would lie to our face while we had printed receipts in our hands. It was the lying and terrible handling of this mistake that we are most upset with right now.

Pros:
Charming property (once you’re on grounds)
Comfy bed
Good shower
Close to restaurants and beach (beach about a 10 minute walk).
Cons:
Room was a little smelly (seemed to come from the bathroom).
Closing the bathroom and LEAVING the bathroom fan on helped.
Sketchy area.
We didn’t really feel safe walking around an any hour. Lots of transients (maybe that just is ALL of Santa Cruz?). If you want a safer, cleaner feel you’ll want to stay 5 miles down the freeway in Capitola.
Parking
The hotel parking was on some used car lot right on the main street. Just didn’t feel safe having it there (especially with all the transients and such out there). At least it was «free».
Noisy
The downside of being around that nice courtyard is the noise. You hear everything outside your room (almost like it’s in your room).
Insects or Pests
I was bit by SOMETHING in the room several times while I slept.
This place has potential. Unfortunately the cons BY FAR out weigh the pros. I would not stay there again.

OMG! What a find. Beautiful, clean rooms, well appointed and tasteful. Quiet and serene. And the breakfasts are to die for. Fresh from the oven popovers, fresh fruit, and a choice of plates (highly recommend the Pacific Blue Florintine.) This will definitely be a «return to» destination. Short walk to the beach and Boardwalk.

I emailed ahead to see if we could use the parking lot before check-​in and Alex answered back quickly that yes we could. When we got there we were so happy the room was already ready for us! The loaner bikes were available to ride around town. (We saved $ 50 by not having to rent them) Yummy honey-​chamomile muffins were set out for guests to enjoy throughout the day along with water and tea. The courtyard was a nice place to eat breakfast with lots of plants, fire pit, and water fountain. The room was modern and clean. There is an iron and hairdryer in the closet. The shower was awesome.
The only things I could suggest for future guests is a mini fridge would be nice and maybe an extra fan in the closet because the room was stuffy at times with no A/​C. (There is a ceiling fan)

This place could be considered for one of the most beautiful refreshing places I’ve ever stayed. I felt very welcomed when I checked in. The courtyard was so tranquil. The breakfast area was very clean. The room was spotless. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom was spa like. This place was perfectly located to the shopping and to the boardwalk. The breakfast was elegant and perfect. I really have not one thing to complain about. It was a perfect oasis for my girlfriends and I. I will definitely recommend and plan on visiting again.

Perfect little getaway! Stayed for one night it was super quiet even on the weekend. Room was clean and very nice. Soft comfortable bed. Didn’t have breakfast there so can’t speak for that. They have bikes available there so be sure to ask before you rent some! We didn’t think to ask and saw them after we already rented others:(we plan to come back!

Love, love, love this place! My husband tends to stay away from B&Bs because he does he thinks that «quaint» usually is just keyword for «old”-which is what many B&B locations are. This one is bright and cozy and modern-​everything he looks for when staying somewhere. All of the staff is very friendly and capable. The building is very secure-​you need keycards to access everything.
A couple of notes for those visiting for the first time!
There is no staff at the hotel after 6 PM. If you want to check in while someone is here, make sure to arrive between 3−5PM. Otherwise, things can get a bit more confusing/​tricky.
They do not advertise themselves as being pup friendly, but they are! There’s just a dog cleaning fee and you have to stay on the first floor (both reasonable requests for us)
Breakfast is not included in the price. If you want breakfast, you must either let them know by phone when you book your room or you can sign up the night before. It’s $ 15 a person. I highly, highly recommend everyone to get breakfast here. First of all, it’s an incredible deal. For $ 15 you get a fruit salad, coffee, juice, popovers, and a main entrée. Secondly, isn’t that the reason you stay at a bed and breakfast?
There’s also always some type of afternoon delight being whipped up by the staff. When we stayed there it was orange bundt cake and strawberry bars.
Not sure how the other B&Bs in town stack up, but I’m definitely a big fan of this one!

Great location, awesome employees, and beautiful rooms. What more could you ask for?!

Absolutely fell in love with this place! The room is so clean and decorated so nicely. The bed is so comfy as the bedding and pillows are like sleeping on a cloud :) There is a electronic fire place in our room if we get cold. The bathroom is amazingly gorgeous too! There is a DVD player in the room with cable tv. Outside each room has a small balcony with a cute table to relax at. Then they have tea and pastries down stairs in the lobby. Best place to stay at for a get away in Santa Cruz

This place is amazing! We stayed for a weekend when we had to change vacation plans last minute. They had us booked within 24 hours of my panicked call (someone (ok me) requested the wrong days off for what had been booked at another BB… omg).
We parked the car and didn’t get in it once all weekend. Walking distance to the beach and the pier. Two blocks from a big downtown full of restaurants and bars and shops. Five blocks from a redbox for a cozy movie in bed.
Breakfast was mouthwateringly delicious. The gal in the office baked a different treat and left it out under a glass cover each day for residents to snag.
Adorable courtyard is so pleasant to sit in.
We plan to go again, and next time spring for a room with a balcony!

This hotel is absolutely to die for! Amazing location (my boyfriend and I could walk anywhere we wanted to go) the beds were amazingly comfortable and they had fresh baked treats in the lobby every afternoon (if you see apple cinnamon muffins grab them all!!! They are super tasty!!)
We never had the breakfast there. We just walked to a bagle store (he has very specific tastes)
I read a few comments that the parking is very small, and they are correct but we saw no need to move the car for our entire two day stay. the hotel is also very small but if you want a cozy place to stay with friendly staff this is the place
All in all amazing couples retreat! Amazing location and amazing muffins

This bed and breakfast is so cute and romantic. It’s all green too which is a big plus for me. Everything in the room is all white and just fresh looking. Has an in room fireplace and a small garden out front with chairs to have a drink or coffee/​tea with your loved one. You get a bottle of wine/​or cider upon arrival and chocolate strawberries if celebrating a special occasion. Place is very cozy and private. It’s about a few blocks from downtown Santa Cruz.
The owner is such a nice guy. He came out and chatted with my husband and I and told us how he came about opening the b&b. He has a chef making delicious breakfast. The popovers are made fresh every morning. They are amazing (yum) they usually have a set menu, but you do have a few options. Food is made fresh. They really go out their way to make your stay perfect.
This place is so worth the price. Weather it be a quick getaway, birthday or romantic rendezvous. This is the place to stay. Worth every penny

I wish I could give this place a better review. I would if we were given all the same amenities as other guests.
My boyfriend and I made reservations here for New Year’s Eve. We found this place on the Internet and it looked awesome. I always check out Unilocal beforehand, the reviews were great and we were so excited for the special breakfast they offer. Unfortunately, upon checking in we were told because of the way we book the reservation (through Priceline) we are not offered the breakfast, only for an additional $ 30. I guess I could understand if we paid less for the room but we didn’t. We both were a bit taken back by that so we declined to pay more. Now on to the room, it was nice and the bed was comfortable. The shower was a bit of an issue considering the floor obviously has some water damage due to the drain not working properly.
All in all we had a good time because we always do but we will not be returning here.

Love everything about this place!
The boyfriend and I decided to stay in Santa Cruz for our anniversary for one weekend. We were looking all over Santa Cruz for a nice but affordable place. Majority of the places that are nice are wayyy over priced and if it’s cheap it’s not the place you want to stay. When we found this place we were so happy! It was priced fairly well for a really nice place and the location it was in.
The lady who was running the bed and breakfast was so sweet and nice. She always made some fresh baked pastries every morning. There are only 9 rooms total so make sure you book fast if you’re trying to stay here. The rooms are the perfect size. Some people mentioned hearing noise from the night life but we didn’t have a problem with that at all. The beds are too die for! We actually called back to find the out the mattress brand and model so we can look into upgrading our own mattress at home. :)
Parking is not bad at all either. They have their own lot in the back which they do provide a parking permit that comes with the reservations. The bed and breakfast is walking distance to a lot of restaurants and night life so you don’t even need to bother driving around. The board walk is real close by as well and the provide bikes if you want to use them but that’s first come first serve.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try out the breakfast that you could add on to the reservations but we’ve heard amazing reviews about it. Every time I plan on coming back to Santa Cruz I will definitely make reservations here.

Stayed here a few months ago with my now girlfriend and I must say, Beds wear the comfiest ever #sleepingonclouds, food is is emoji good staff is great very hospitable made us feel right at home, very quite and roomy place to stay will be going back to Santa Cruz and pacific blue in
Oh and they have Comcast in 40 inch tv for all the sports lovers !!

Excellent inn near the heart of Santa Cruz
Stayed at the PBI on a work trip and was pleasantly surprised at the experience. From the outside, the inn looks small and there is not staff available 24×7.
On the positives:
–The chef fit me in for breakfast after I wrote a note on the door requesting to join him. It was excellent. He’s a very nice person and makes mad good pastries and egg dishes.
–The bed was one of the best I’ve slept in… and I’ve stayed at a good number of hotels. Sheets are very soft, while the mattress is large and supportive.
–Room was very clean. Bathroom and shower, as well. And I’m HUGE on cleanliness!
–One just walks up Pacific to access the shopping, eating, and other amenities in Santa Cruz. (Discovered that Cruzio, up the street, has a co-​work space that was superb to get some work done at.)
–A good walk to the beach and wharf.
Only knocks would be:
–Parking is tricky in that it’s around the block. There’s a walkway to the inn between two businesses, though.
–Noise travels through walls and floors a bit. I knew that my upstairs neighbors are very loving and affectionate with each other between 11 PM and 1 AM.
–Don’t expect an air-​conditioning unit. Not really a bad thing given the weather in Santa Cruz, but a surprise for those of us who travel a bit.
Definitely will look to stay at PBI again, next time we visit.
