Holiday Smog

Just left Holiday Smog and I am so happy I chose them to smog my car! I was in and out in 15 minutes tops and I passed! Very friendly staff and great service!

I dropped in today with my 1992 RV that needed work on the muffler. From the time I arrived to the time I drove off with a new muffler was about 45 minutes. Mark helped me when I arrived, Jeff did the work, and Mike helped me at check out. They were all friendly and super efficient!
I thought I was just going in for an estimate, and would have to come back for the work, but they had me in and out of there fast and for a reasonable price. And great that they have a lift for the 27 ft RV.
I am a satisfied customer and this was my first visit to this business.

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about, I stopped by there today with no appointment on the books in hopes of getting my car smogged. I was immediately greeted by an older man who was more than helpful and friendly. I was in and out within 20 minutes. They had some homemade coffee cake in the front and answered questions I had about selling my vehicle which they definitely didn’t have to do. If you want quick, honest and reliable service for an affordable price then I would visit this family owned and operated business!

In and out in less than 20 minutes to smog my car — would have been 15 except I was also hauling around my toddlers in a double stroller. I read other reviews and prepared myself for a grumpy, rude person at the counter but everyone was nice to me! And super nice to my kids, too. I can imagine the owner getting gruff and short with someone who wants him to hold their hand through a simple process, but come on dudes — he’s obviously way past retirement age and doesn’t feel like he has to do that. ;)
Ps: he gave me the lowdown on the bickering when he looked at my kids. Brother and sister who have been fighting since they were born both work there together. LOL

I went here and they did a good job. I passed even though my engine light had been coming on. And it was a good price. They were nice and we had good conversations. They laughed at my jokes LOL. All around pleasant experience!
I chose them because they were near me and one Unilocal review said… this is a smog check not a 4 star dinner. That sold me. Point being? Many people are being too picky.

I read the reviews and wondered why some people found that the place is chaotic, abrasive, the guy there is an asshole, and so on. Steve helped me and he was great!
But then I met Mark and I understood all of the other negative comments.
Talk about no people skills! The fella needs to learn common courtesy.

Went on a Sat morning around 9:15 and was in and out. Pretty fast. I have a Prius and paid the same at the regular smog check, $ 50, including «electronic certificate.» Note: the shops need to buy special equipment to test Priuses; not all shops have them and some shops charge more to use them. (one place quoted me $ 65)

I was in and out in 12 minutes and my car passed. That’s probably all you need to know.
I’ve been here a few times so I’ll add that my impression is that this is the family business of some hard working people. The mom and pop are running the counter and the son is doing the tests. They’ve always been nice to me and others in the waiting area. They’re dog friendly. Is there some occasional bickering? Sure, but just imagine if you worked along side with your family from 8 – 5 every single day…

The truck went in needed a smog check. It came out with the ABS light on??? Cost $ 240 to fix that. Not sure how a smog check smoked the ABS unit.

OK… lets be honest… it is a little bit chaotic at the counter sometimes. Let us also admit that you might just be a bit concerned about the family dynamic that goes on between the father at the counter… and his sons and daughters who work with him.
It might well be that the business should be called «Deliverance Smog «but I digress.
Who gives two dead squirrels???
I don’t come there for advice on raising my family, nor do I go there because I want some GQ tips on how to dress or advice on personal hygiene.
I come there because without an appointment I can stumble in there and usually have my &%$#@$ smog test done in less than 20 minutes.
I don’t need to chat at the counter with the owner about global finance or the political situation between Taiwan and China… I just want my &%$#(& smog test done quickly so I can go back to my normal life.
Not too much to ask.
To recap: Smog test are done here in a twinkling. The end.
The owner is not Prince Charming. Who cares?
Don’t go there expecting a proper British greeting and you won’t get your panties in a bind.

Bare w/​me this is a mind twister… My truck was brought to them by another mechanic shop to fix the small leak I had in the exhaust, yet after getting my truck back I drove it quite a distance and I still experienced a headache as if it still had a leak.
After close to almost a yr of working & not having time for the issue.
— I finally got the chance to get my truck back in the shop. I was told if I brought my truck back they would fix the issue, so I reluctantly brought it back to their facility & explained my circumstances… again. As in… It has an exhaust leak and I want it to be COMPLETELY fixed. (*Keyword: completely)
When I brought my truck to the mechanic shop I explained to them how I was getting headaches from the exhaust leak being so bad. When I returned my truck to their shop I also explained to them the same situation. Yet I also explained my frustration in the fact that my truck should’ve been fixed the 1^st time yet it was missing collector gaskets (causing the same leak from the down pipe) that were supposed to be installed from their facility yet for some reason they believe that the reason why they did not install the collector gaskets is because the mechanic shop did not supply them w/​the parts to do so. Which to me seems way bogus considering if you’re an exhaust shop & someone comes in with an exhaust leak wouldn’t you suggest all the parts necessary to *completely fix the issue??? Instead they just put the downpipe on (supplied by the mechanic) and called it good. Which is the reason why I had to go back to their facility after I had received my truck back & figured out what the issue was… AGAIN. (They blamed the miscommunication on the third party mechanic. Yet upon returning to holiday smog they were accepting of the circumstance and willing to fix the problem, which I was ecstatic about and found that honorable.
To regard communication bases between the shop & I. They remembered me & my vehicle. I had specifically said yet again I need the leak to be *completely fixed. They were willing to fix the problem however they were busy that day and I had to return. Yet they put my truck up onto the lift, examined it & then dropped it down from the lift & told me to return the w/​the parts necessary to fix it (they only mentioned the collector gaskets were needed)… I had even specifically asked this is all I need to have the exhaust leak *completely fixed & had expressed my excitement of the issue being solved & told them I would return the next day to do so. The next day I returned w/​the collector gaskets & excited to not have an exhaust leak anymore.
My truck goes on the lift & comes down off the lift & is being returned to me. As I walk out to my truck I notice the exhaust leak still smells & sounds prevalent to me, as I am noticing this the same man I had told to completely fix my exhaust had told me ‘your down pipe is fixed yet you need to replace your manifold gasket & we can do that for you but it’s another job so you’d have to pay’. My jaw couldn’t hit the floor any quicker then you can say fuck this place, Im out… I couldn’t believe it, after being told to come back & forth to this facility not having my truck to be fixed the 1^st time coming into this garage & then they don’t completely fix the issue, AGAIN.
Granted the miscommunication between the mechanic shop & their shop is somewhat excusable, before. This time I was working directly w/​them as a customer who was frustrated of their job not being completed properly in the 1^st place. That being said, they had told me they were going to fix the exhaust leak to uphold their professional name. Yet that is not what they did. Instead they jerked the situation in their favor.
If my truck needed a manifold gasket to *completely fix the issue… that should’ve been said back when we were discussing the parts needed to *completely fix the issue, am I right? Instead it was mentioned after the down pipe had already been set into place & my truck was off the lift, AGAIN. (For the 3^rd time)
Turned out third time wasn’t the charm & my truck STILL was left w/​an exhaust leak… they had the audacity to offer to fix it yet I needed to pay more money to have that issue fixed which I found mindboggling sooo because they could not uphold to the professionalism of fixing it correctly & efficiently in the 1^st place, I had to pay again? (That’s fuckin crazy)
The problem w/​that whole remedy is — I ALREADY paid to have the issue *completely fixed, in the 1^st place (yrs ago) & your facility was not thorough enough that time which is why I am returning for the 3^rd time. Why would I be treated like I haven’t already paid for the service when the service itself wasn’t complete?
I would’ve been happy to pay for it to be *COMPLETELY* fixed in the 1^st place yet that apparently isn’t part of their service. Its more like half-​ass, full price — maybe twice? or ah heck, lets get have ‘em come back three times?

Lol. Rough around the edges describes this place perfectly. I don’t really mind. Smogged my truck and cars here. They are more than helpful when it comes to that. Also recently rented a Auto Transport Trailer through their new Uhaul service. They had terrible reviews with i think Budget who they used to be a dealer for. But the uhaul system is better. When picking up the trailer, I was helped by a cool guy that didn’t even work there anymore. He was there to work on his jeep. Glad he was around, cause other dude kept cursing around my 3 yr old. Just not cool. He also put me at ease because it was my first time w a trailer, behind a 26′ truck. Bottom line, they will help you and do a good job, but you might think they’re dicks. lol Thanks Guys!

Used them for years. Yep, they are a little rough and there is an odd family dynamic… but you know what. they get it done pretty quickly and the price is fair. I am not a hipster and don’t need my ego fluffed when I go to get my car smoged every other year… so it works for me. They are kings of their domain and I don’t mind… its their domain.
For the princesses below offended by the ambiance… you should go to the dealer and pay 80 bucks. Then the line will be shorter at Holiday for the rest of us regular folk.

Invoiced as quoted. $ 50– for a 1999 Miata smog check. This felt fair to me just to get rid of the, «will it pass?» anxiety. Older car. Customization to the exhaust system before I bought it. I was worried.
Only four stars for some minor miscommunication about my order in line involving where I was to put my car – no big deal; and, that the key left in the ignition when the job was done was not turned «OFF. «
I am hard to please and overall my experience with Holiday Smog was very good. Give them a try.

So yea these guys might be a little rough around the edges but it’s not like I’m bringing a date here for dinner! Come ON… It’s a SMOG CHECK. Go back to the suburbs if you need a red carpet experience. All I know is I keep coming back for the best price in town. I brought my dog this time and she got a doggie treat so she did get the red carpet. Then the car didn’t pass… told me he wouldn’t charge me and had me drive it to Watson and back — hooked it back up and said, «well ya cleared one of the two codes, go drive it down there again and don’t go over 60»… Got back the second time and bam! Passed. Paid the original quote. I’m stoked. All I know is these guys know smog checks and that’s what I go there for. Thanks guys!

Only place to get a smog fast & inexpensive in SC. We drove up signed the paperwork, handed over the key & in 12 minutes were paying to get back on the road. How many smog places do you know that are that easy anywhere? Enough said.

So many polarizing reviews! I rolled in at 450PM with my Honda Accord expecting to catch an earful for arriving almost before shop closure and without an appointment. Mark greeted me and it was «sure, let’s do it» positive attitude. The smog was a very reasonable price, no coupons needed, that’s great. I was in and out, less than 15 minutes. Couldn’t be happier. I also spoke to Steve about the detail on the car, really nice guy. Had a great experience, would not hesitate to go back.

The absolute worst customer service, I have ever experienced. The team there at Holiday Smog, are rude, short tempered, and just don’t give a rat’s behind, whether you pass or what problems your car is going thru. DO NOT GO TO THIS SMOG STATION. There are plenty of others around. I reccomend John Rood on 17TH. I went there after my dibocale at Holiday, and they were friendly and did a great job.
