Best eye Dr. around! I have been seeing Dr. Froid for over 20 years and would never think of going to anyone else. They are always able to help me and answer all my questions. And, let me tell you there were lots. Trying all different types of contacts till found what worked best. Couple visits later and decided to try wearing just one. Super patient with me. TWO THUMBS UP.

Dr. Froid himself is great. He was clear and really helpful when he checked my eyes. He is chatty, but that did not bother me. However, his practice only gets 2 stars because I had a poor experience with his support staff. When ordering glasses, they were not helpful in telling me what my options were. Furthermore, I ordered my glasses to be mailed to me, but they never showed up. When I called to check, it turned out that my glasses were just sitting at the office.

I went here for an eye exam a couple years back. Since then I’ve been going to other places, since this office isn’t open ate and doesn’t take my current insurance. However, when I did go here back when I was working on this side of the hill, I got an appointment with no fuss, they didn’t make me wait, the prescription was spot on, overall cost was quite low, and there were no paperwork problems.
Several of these simple performance criteria have not had completely satisfactory results in other places I’ve been. Costco has performance issues, EyeQ was too expensive, etc. Looks like Froid bothered some other people from the other reviews, but I’m not impressed with fancy-​looking equipment, I’ve experienced some of that living in Japan, and if it speeds up the appointment great but otherwise it might just be increasing the overhead we pay for. I mean really, you don’t need equipment to choose your reading glasses? Gimmi a break, this isn’t heart surgery, people. It’s the result that matters, not like they couldn’t prescribe eyeglasses and contact 30 years ago.

Unfortunately, I can’t even speak about the doctor himself because the service I got from the front desk was HORRIBLE. I was calling for a friend that lives in the area to ask a couple questions and the lady that answered the phone was just straight up rude. She was very impatient and was not friendly at all.
GO ELSEWHERE

We moved from San Francisco and my husband and I needed an optometrist. Dr Froid is on the list of providers for the discount program we are on. I went for an exam first. It was the most rudimentary and basic exam I have ever had in my life. Very unusual. With old looking equipment. He talked non-​stop about personal issues to fill the time up. I thought he was odd but since he was on the list of providers in our program my husband went to see him next.
My husband also thought the eye test was from the 1920’s and he got his prescription wrong the first time. The glasses that he bought there fell apart within 2 months and he had to get them fixed 3 times. Also, his office doesn’t bother to fit glasses after they are purchased from him. Shoddy service, poor quality merchandise and a very basic exam.
Bottom line… I spoke to a leading opthamologist in SF that I know and she told me that Costco has a very thorough, top notch eye exam. I wish I had spoken to her before we went to this office. Be forewarned. I see only glowing reports of this Dr. and that’s why we chose him.

The doctor here is very nice and I liked him a lot, but when I used the rx he gave me to order my contacts through 1−800-contacts, when they called to verify the rx, someone from the doctor’s office told them that my rx had expired in March and they cancelled my order. I have only been to this doctor once a day or two ago — so why did someone from his office tell them that my rx had expired? To make matters worse, when I called for an explanation, the woman (not Stephanie) who got on the phone with me was really rude and condescending. While I really like the the doc and Stephanie who works the front desk, the follow up has been horrible. I’m sorry, but I won’t be returning here. It’s absolutely mind boggling to see a doc, get a rx and then have this much trouble getting the rx filled. And I know the problem is not coming from 1−800-contacts because I have been using them for years and they verified with me the doctor and his phone number so I know they were contacting the right office. I work in customer service and I know how to treat customers when a mistake has been made. You don’t talk down to them and give them attitude, you apologize and you fix the mistake quickly so everyone can go on with their day. Again, great doctor (super nice, funny, helpful), horrible follow up with office staff.

Dr. Froid is personable, knowledgeable and thorough, but don’t go there if you have any chemical sensitivities. The reception room reeked of a room deodorant that was so strong I had to go outside to fill out the paperwork and wait for him. It took close to a half hour to be able to breathe normally and not feel nauseated.

This guy is the worst. His staff is rude. I made an appointment for 2. Waited till 2:35 and Froid never showed. Rude receptionist said he was with a patient. I noticed no other patients came into or left the office. The waiting room was essentially devoid of any sign of people coming in or out. Honestly I don’t think this guy has any patients. Really correct me if I am wrong. Notice the prior reviews look like they were written by some one forced to say something nice. This was the most surreal experience with a doctor in all my 45 years.

The reception here is useless. Two separate times I stood in front of her for 1 – 3 minutes while she was on the phone and she didn’t even acknowledge me while I waited… when she got off the phone she acted like I was inconveniencing her. Not a good way to start. Froid seemed competent, a chatty guy. I tried a few different lenses over a few weeks– once I decided which ones I liked I called the office to order more and my chart was out of the office with Froid (!!!) and they couldn’t contact him to get a prescription for a replacement pair of lenses to get me through the weekend. WHY WAS MY CHART NOT IN THE OFFICE? The following week I went into the office to sort this out and as they looked at my chart they couldn’t figure out which lens I liked because they didn’t document any of the trail pairs as they sent them home with me. meanwhile I’m wearing a month old pair of lenses now that are gnarly and killing my eyes… they are the most unhelpful bunch of people. not apologetic or willing to get to the bottom of it… she literally threw up her hands and said I don’t know and sent me out of the office empty handed and didn’t offer to schedule an apt when Froid. Froid was a nice guy and I think I trust that he probably knows what he’s doing– but his two front desk people just aren’t worth my time and the health of my eyes. I will be going to a different OD in town and pay for an all new exam because I can’t seem to get a call back from Froid and my eyes can’t take these crusty lenses. Lame.

Dr. Froid is very friendly and professional. He knows his business and he takes care of you. I don’t think you can ask for anything more. He also doesn’t try to oversell you on the glasses. He lets you pick out your style. He gives you options and let’s you decide what suits you best. Thank you Dr. Froid!

Hard to find doctors who would take time with patients. This doctor is the nicest! My whole family love him!

Wonderful Dr! Very fun and funny, efficient without feeling rushed. He has never pushed any products on me, be it glasses, lens brands, coatings, etc. I like that he holds the view that ads tell the truth in its most positive light but that doesn’t mean youneed it. I asked about the up to 30 day wear contacts with increased oxygen flow, and he told me how he felt, and that the amount of oxygen may not be the problem.
I hate errands, I hate having to go do stuff. I live 4.7 miles away and it is worth the 15 minutes to drive there instead of going to the lensCrafters in the Capitola mall.
Laid-​back but efficient, no pressure to buy anything you don’t need, and just an all-​around great practice

Dr. Froid is very nice and I have no complaints about him, but I had to warn about a very bad experience I had with his receptionist. I am a caregiver and one of my clients has been a long-​time patient of Dr. Froid’s. Last year she bought cute new frames from Dr. Froid’s office. Three weeks later, they broke for no reason while she was wearing them. She wasn’t even touching them, they just snapped. At the time she thought it could be fixed but she wanted to wait until she could afford it, so we took it in a few months later to a shop downtown. They said the frames were beyond repair, but that the should still be under warranty. So we took them back to Dr. Froid’s office and explained what had happened. The receptionist treated us like we were lying scammers and informed us that the glasses looked like they had been through «some kind of accident» and that it was not the manufacturer’s fault. We were very insulted, but I was insistent, and eventually she agreed to get them replaced. When we went to pick up the new pair she made it clear that they would not be replacing them for us again. Three weeks later, the same exact thing happened — the frames broke for absolutely no apparent reason. I called Dr. Froid’s office & spoke with the same receptionist. I explained that I understood we would not be getting a replacement but I wanted to inform her that the frames were clearly made cheaply and should not be sold. She, in turn, made it clear that «no one» had a problem with these particular frames, otherwise she would have removed them from their inventory. So we went from being lying scammers to apparently being completely non-​existant. This is the first time I’ve felt the need to write a review, but I felt obligated to warn people of this shocking lack of professionalism. Again, no complaints about Dr. Froid himself. For those who are wondering, the frames are black rims with a cute flower design on the side with a diamond. They say FIFI 45−16−125 Black on the inside.

I’ve been going to him for several years now. He’s a thorough doctor and a real pleasure to chat with. I’ve been very happy going to this practice and I’ll go no where else!

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Froid and he is very personable and knowledgeable. He spent over an hour with my exam and his fee was very reasonable. I feel quite lucky to have found him and I am looking forward to my next visit.

I’ve been going to Dr. Froid for many years — over 10 — and I think he’s great. He’s thorough, knowledgeable, friendly and approachable.

Dr. Froid is fun to talk to and is a good eye doctor.

This man is the all time nicest guy ever. He is so good with all my family members that need glasses.
He also donates to the community… does an eye guy get any better?
