Schooners Patio Grille

This one of those places that civilized people generally try to avoid. But the beer selection is decidedly craft (though dominated by Big Beer’s recent purchases) and the food is okay.

I was very unimpressed with my first visit to this place. This is supposed the best hang out spot in Santa Clarita and I’d be lying if I said its not. Waiter service sucks!!! I was expecting more. First of all I sat at the bar an had to flag down my waiter several times. He seemed annoyed by this. First question — what do u recommend on the menu. Answer «the menu is extensive, it all depends what u in the mood for». I normally like to get suggestions from my server. Next he’s unavailable so I ask another waiter for a drink that’s normally served with a slice of orange. My drink is plain. I ask my waiter for orange. His response «I didn’t serve u that drink». Really? I was expecting this response «sorry mam I’ll get a slice of orange for you». Now, if you’re expecting a nice tip treat your client with kindness and appreciation. Yes I would recommend this place. I’m normally big on tips. I did not tip my waiter because I was expecting more. Had a few good
drinks but had to endure below par waiter service.

This is home for us… Couldn’t say enough positive things about Schooners. GREAT place to watch NFL games on Sunday morning. Killer breakfasts including a monster steak with eggs topped off with biscuits and gravy.

Kristen our waitress was prompt and professional. She gave us an honest option on the food. We loved the good food and the atmosphere. we ordered the car carneasada fries and the Jalepenos sliders and the jack Daniel’s sliders. Flipping delicious with the Brioche buns. This place is more than you would expect. Must come if you’re in town!

Lunch after picking up a friend from LAX on the way home to Bakersfield. We have been here before and really like the atmosphere. Today was good. Our waitress was a sweet short small blonde girl. Super friendly and a nice smile. She was prompt with getting us our drinks and taking the order and the food came out quick. I had the chicken Cobb salad which was really good. Ample amount of chicken. A whole egg and a good avocado. Hubbs had the buffalo chicken pizza. Lots of buffalo chicken on it but he said the sauce was pretty tangy but still good. Friend had the western burger and he said it was a 7 of 10. So, not bad all around.

Came in here to kick back and grab a drink at this local watering hole. I didn’t know what to expect but wanted to give this place a shot.
Walked in across the scattered sawdust floors, grabbed a bar stool and a high table and began to check out the extensive menu. The choice looked great. Typical bar food and many over the top items and drinks! Sounded amazing. I ended up getting the Guacamole burger and was not disappointed. This burger rocked. Huge patty piled with all the fixings — added in jalapenos for a kick. Greasy a heck but tasty. Also tried some carne asada tacos which were pretty good too although a bit small. Funny thing is the burger didn’t come with fries but the tacos did. LOL
The drinks menu was very interesting too. I was recommended the Angry Balls — Angry Orchard Cider with a shot of Fireball Whiskey. Woah that was soo good. Best part was the they served it in a frozen schooner glass. Also tried the Orange Crush — Shock Top with Citrus Vodka. Also a hit.
Service was good at mid day on a weekday. They had sports playing on several tvs and they have patio style dining too. They allow smoking on the covered patio so be aware of that.

This is my favorite place for drinks peanuts and sport t.v. Plus the staff is the best!!!

Fun place, great drinks and good standard bar grub. But the kitchen is a bit slow. Today they had a fabulous 3 person band! Too bad one can’t enjoy the patio due to all the cigar and cigarette smokers.

PAY WITH CASH!!!
This wasn’t our 1^st visit, we go often. BUT after this last visit I have my reservations about going there. Or at least going there and only paying with CASH… MAKE SURE To CHECK your BANK ACCOUNT. If you have a mobil app for your bank check the transaction before you leave. Our bill came to 146.00. We split the bill between 2 cards. The waitress was instructed to put 46 on one card and 100 on the other. She ran the cards and I singed my slip that stated I was charged 46. The other charge slip was for 100. Then my friend added a tip to their slip. The next morning I went on to my online bank access to balance my account And and I had a charge from Schooners for 46 dollars and a different transaction for 146. I called our friends that we were with and they checked and they were charged 100. So in total we were charged 292 dollars on a 146 dollar tab. I went into schooners that morning and talked to the manager and when I explained what I was charged she told me «this happens all the time». Uhm really… there’s a red flag!!! She told me the server must have charged me and she probably reversed the charge and I need to wait for my bank to update pending transactions. Ok fine I understand that. I’ve waited tables from age 16 through college and even managed restaurants. Correct me if I’m wrong but when you run someone’s card wrong and you do a void you get a receipt and an explication. I got neither. The manager told me that if the charge is still there that I can come in and she will give me cash?!? Ok great they are making it right but it seems really shady. I don’t know how the servers computers work there but its very common practice today that servers carry their own bank, and at the end of the night you run a report of your sales. The report will tell you what you need to turn into the establishment to cover your night sales. The left over money is your tips!!! I guess our server had one hell of a night Saturday. Fast forward to when my banks pending charges updated… yep…146 dollar and a 46 dollar withdraw from my account paid to Schooners. I guess I will be going in and collecting my cash today.
Update…still have 146 dollar charge pending on my account which now has over drawn my account… oh and I guess Shannon K our server felt that she deserved more and added a tip to my 46 dollar charge which cleared my account today as $ 53.

Worst Service. Made eye contact with a waitress, and she turned her back to talk to her friends. There goes her tip. I would give negative stars if possible.

Love this place I am never Un satisfied with this place it’s my favorite place plus the carve asada grimiest are so good get them every time I come

This is probably the best place in Santa Clarita to have a drink with friends or alone.
Food is good nothing from the other world but good.
Different kind of shot, veey clever and smart.

Definitely a great spot in the SCV if you’re a fan of cold beer and bar food. It’s definitely got its own thing going on — a little too nice for a dive bar and a little too rough for a restaurant. Could definitely be a date place — depending on who you’re dating.
The place can be a little loud but it’s never been so loud you can’t have a conversation.
Servers are great, you get enough but not too much, attention. They use a digital ordering tablet so you’re order shows up right every time.
Food quality is solid as long as your preference is for bar food. They’ve got they whole spread of bar food — taco’s, sliders, burgers, wings. I’ve sampled many of their fare and don’t have any complaints.
The beer is ice cold thanks to the frozen mugs. They’ve got a wide selection and the pricing is great.
There is a smoking half of the joint which is a rarity.

Was my first time here and I really liked the vibe. Lots of space for people to sit and enjoy a drink with the game. I met some friends here and while the place is big, parking can be a challenge out there so be prepared to circle a couple of times.
I can’t comment on the food or drinks because I was there for the event only but I liked it and look forward to come back to watch a game or two!

We almost missed this one in Santa Clarita, California. Then, right as we were heading out, we got a tip that we had to go to Schooners. And we are SO GLAD that we did. After we found parking (which was tough) we were treated to one of the most badass bloodys in one the most badass sports bars we had ever been to. Look folks, lots of bloodys get garnished with burgers these days, and lots of bloodys come with a sidecar of beer. This ain’t your grandma’s slider and they give you a full frosty mug of your choice while you wait for it.

Back in 2011/​2012, I loved coming to this place. I enjoyed the food, the beer, the vibe. It was a place my wife and I would go to and be happy. There was a a group of waitresses there that were always really cool and rarely kept us waiting unless it was busy, which it was a lot of the time. I’m perfectly fine with that! My band even played there once and it was a great time. The place was packed til closing and the local sheriffs came to clear it out at closing. Rowdy crowd and lots of fun! Some even came up on and sang or played one of my guitars. Yeah, we are one of those bands who don’t act like we are rock stars.
The downfall of this place started rearing its ugly head when we came for breakfast one Sunday. Scorecard for the breakfast:
Service = slower than an average American student figuring out fractions
Personality of Server = 0.666.
Food = Excellent… because I lost weight eating it. Didn’t finish my breakfast and threw up in my mouth several times. Good thing I had my sunflower seed spit cup in my car. People that know me know I never leave food on the plate.
Now, don’t get me wrong, alot of places aren’t geared for breakfast, they just offer it for the people watching NFL if they want it, so I brushed it off.
Went there for dinner another time to find the menu changed. They took off the malibu chicken sando which was one of the best around. They took off the chicken parm which was VERY good. Their burgers are standard and not awe inspiring, but I do love their fries and beer is still coldest around… until…
The last two times I went, service blew, beer blew (out of cold schooners so we drank semi-​cold beer outta plastic and it was before 10pm) food sucked, vibe of crowd sucked, see a theme here?
Its been over a year since I have been there, don’t miss it at all. It saddens me because that two year window was awesome. Hire servers who aren’t doing us a favor when we sit down and order, revamp your menu, and order about 1000 glass schooners and have them at the ready and your reviews will get better again!

I came on a surprisingly crowded Thursday night, was looked over and ID’ed by their bouncer and was thrust into to darkness and sawdust floors that is Schooner’s. It’s a seat yourself kinda place, but a waitress came by quickly to take our drink orders. No menus in sight, so we just ordered the first simple thing we could think of. The drinks were ok.
Watched some wasted chick stumble across the floor and bump into various objects/​people and decided it was time to down our drinks and vacate. We were there for less than an hour, but it felt like so much longer.
If you have nowhere else to go, still don’t come here.

This place is fun! Its your typical bar, open space, lots of tables, bar food, music… nothing really different besides their awesome drinks! The food was nothing crazy awesome, but still good for bar food, but I am literally leaving this review about their drinks. Everything you order comes in a huge, thick, ICED cold glass. This is the first time I have had drinks served to me like this. Really different and smart! The staff was very friendly, fun and the place gave off a really fun vibe. We were here on an early Friday afternoon so it was pretty dead, but a great place to hang out and catch up with family. Will probably definitely stop by here again for some drinks!

Service wasn’t great but it also wasn’t terrible. There’s an inside area & an outside patio area where you can smoke. No hostess so you seat yourself. Found a table on the patio & was definitely seen by the waitress but it took her way to long to come & ask what we wanted to drink. Once again took a million years to come & ask if we wanted to order food after we got our drinks. We got 4 of their cheeseburger sliders & when I took my first bite all I got was a taste that reminded me of McDonald’s burgers & a waterfall of grease running down my fingers. Even after wiping down my burger with a napkin each bite was still greasy as hell. I could have squeezed those burgers & produced a small glass of grease. Anyone thirsty? lol. Everything tasted like it was previously frozen.
I will say though that the drinks are really good & they’re pretty cheap. They’re served in pretty big goblets & only around $ 6 each. Of course the catch is that that they put a fair amount of ice in each drink so they can put less. Still yummy & I’d come back when I need a drink. I’ll eat before hand or sneak some snacks in my purse before I eat their food again.

After experiencing no trivia for a few weeks, Trivia Guy contacted me on the social networks. He personally invited me to come to trivia at his Thursday night location, Schooners Patio Grille. So, after the old trivia team expressed an interest, we decided to check it out. As my usual trivia night routine, I arrived about 30 minutes earlier than trivia was supposed to start to check out the menu and order some dinner.
We entered the place and looked around. From what I could tell, the crowded place consisted of just one big room, separated with a bar in the middle. It was also loud. To add to the cacophony, televisions were sprinkled about the place up on the walls. A bit of the ‘room’ also stretched outside, but with a solid roof above it. In addition to the din of the other customers, sawdust and wood shavings crunched beneath our feet as we walked in.
One row of low tables by the door, and the remainder of the tables further into the place were high, with the high chairs that left your legs and feet to dangle a foot in the air. Nothing makes me feel more like a grown up than my feet not being able to touch the ground. We found a seat in the middle, unaware of where Trivia guy would be setting up shop for our evening of brain exercise.
The tomb like menu is varied, and actually kinda reminded me of the Tilted Kilt menu. Pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, fries and even a page with baked potatoes. I decided to start with an appetizerey kinda deal. I started the evening with an order of garlic fries and a cold beer. Waitress was quick and good, and both arrived before too long. As most garlic fries are, these garlic fries were greasy and oily, yet very garlic-​ed. A grating of cheese was sprinkled on top. The beer came in large cauldron-​like glasses, with a layer of frost completely blanketing the outside (and the inside) of the glass. Ah, nothing quite like cold beer and greasy fries to start a trivia night.
Trivia started up, and my team began to do our best answer the tricky questions that Trivia Guy slung out at us. After a few rounds, I decided it was nigh about time to order dinner. After much debating, I settled upon the large flatbread BBQ chicken pizza. Again, it was ordered and out before the following round of trivia questions.
FYI: The card game Uno was invented by Merle Robbins in Reading, Ohio in 1971 and is also the name of a chocolate bar. (We didn’t get that one)
The large pizza came out and I dug in. It was Frank’s red hot spicy, and actually quite tasty. After eating several slices, I realized just how large it was. After the pizza slices, and all of the fries and the cauldron of beer, I was quite full. I offered the remainder of the pizza up to my teammates to help finish. They also commented on it’s tastiness.
So, it’s pretty much ‘Bar Food’ served here. They do have quite the selection of greasy fries, pizzas, burgers and beers. The place is also super loud and crowded. I suppose that’s a good sign for business though. Busy place. I’m also not sure I’m a fan of the table elevation of the place. I do like my feet on the ground. I’ll continue to explore the menu, and enjoy Trivia night on Thursdays.
