Assistance League

I want to start out by saying that ALL of the volunteer ladies that we have had the pleasure to do business with here, are extremely lovely!!! Never once have we had a negative experience, as they are all so very sweet & kind! I began shopping here a few months ago. At first, my Children and I loved it here, and we were finding great deals all over the store. We really looked forward to going here! We began noticing that their prices were increasing every time we went. In addition to that, the items that we purchased from them (which are items that are always available at thrift stores) were no longer in their store after that. A lady who works there accidentally spilled the beans to me and said that they sell a lot of their items on eBay. That let me know that as they notice what their customers purchase, they hold onto those items in the future & sell them on eBay. My daughter noticed in their back room, notes on items stating how much those particular items were going for on eBay. They originally priced their items at «normal thrift store prices,» but now they are selling many things at or above eBay prices. This is disheartening as we were so very fond of the store, but not any more. Sadly we have to stop going there as the great (even good) prices/​deals are a thing of the past. I purchase a lot of items every time I visit a thrift store so they have lost a great customer due to greedy pricing.

I’ve been overwhelmed trying to find the right top to wear to my daughter’s wedding. I’d ordered $ 70 tops from both Sundance Catalog and National Geographic shop (nice interesting clothing btw). After returning both tops, and getting repeat thumbs down on other tops from my daughter, I prayed I’d find «the gem» at Assistance League. Bingo! I started rifling through the tops and there it was… angels were singing… a fuschia, silk jacket with matching camisole. Correct size, perfect color to go with an «Air Force» blue, lace skirt. $ 6. Perfect color, perfect condition, perfect size! LOVE THIS STORE!

I want to give this place 5 stars but the only downside is there is no dressing room. Other than that, the staff was great and for a smaller place the selection was nice. Everything was really clean and organized as well.

What a great discovery this is! I found some great clothing and for under 15.00! I picked for myself and my daughters and we all left happy and pleased. I love what they provide for and that they all volunteer their time for others. They help 2500 schools get new clothing to needy kids, teddy’s for trauma victims and Birthday gifts and hot meals to shut in’s and Convalescent bound men and women. I say yae, yae, yea to this store and I will be back for more.

Have always found the items I needed and even more I didn’t need but definitely had to purchase.
Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a any items at an incredibly reasonable price.

Great place to shop, especially for books and other unique items. The all volunteer staff are wonderful and very knowledgeable about the items that are sold in the store. All of the non profits are used to assist with many community projects that are of great benefit to the community. The prices are so low and reasonable that it almost makes me want to offer more for the deals that they have on a daily basis. Many thanks to the many wonderful volunteers of the Assistance League Resale Shop in Newhall! Furthermore, thank you for the professional and caring manner in which you assisted me and the other customers in the store every time we come to visit.

This time I stand on principle. Ladies I dealt with were belligerent and unprofessional. Again, they do not know WTF they are doing with their pricing system. A TAG is a TAG is a TAG. They have color guides around the store they do not follow. It’s the principle. Yes, the cost difference is $ 1.00, but I just hate unjustified, indefensible ways of doing business.
Again, there is a «color guide» for every part of the store. Buying a sportcoat, I got charged $ 5.00, when a TAG clearly is yellow… and yellow is $ 4.00. Lame-a*s reasons I got: «Our customers know the system». Yes, suckers who you pull the wool over their eyes. «The tag is for inventory purposes». Really? Where does that say in your color charts? «You get a value for the items you get here». DUH, that is why I am there, to get a value, a good deal, and be treated fairly and NOT BE TAKEN FOR A RIDE.
«You don’t have to shop here». Effing fighting words. Hey this is America, I can pretty well damn go look around as long as I am peaceful and you are peaceful. It is my right and choice to shop here AND my right not to be taken for a ride with your inconsistent, indefensible, weird pricing practices and policies. In fact business law dictates that if one item is marked two prices and a buyer wants it, the mistake is the vendors; the lower price must prevail
SO spend some time, please, to iron out inconsistencies. A red colored item must be priced the same around the store. A tag is a tag is a tag. Women’s clothes, if priced differently, must have notices that CLARIFY, as in Men’s clothing. Do not make it up as you go along. Be consistent. Be professional.
There is a State government office that regulates fair pricing, NOT capricious and arrogant vending practices. We’re OK for now, no need for this.
Oh yes: «We are just volunteers». That’s great. But do a fair and honest volunteering. Don’t be snappy. Otherwise stay home or be grouchy to your husband instead. If you can’t handle people who will call your weird inconsistent practices for what they are: I suggest avoid this and hang out with your friends.

I am a member of this fantastic organization and have volunteered in the store for the past 13 years! I have heard it called the ‘Nordstrom’s of thrift stores’ many times. The all volunteer members work hard to keep the store, as well as all the donations clean and in working order. All proceeds from the store go directly to the chapter’s philanthropic programs that benefit children, families and seniors in Santa Clarita. The merchandise ranges from clothes for all family members, books, household goods, furniture, shoes, toys and holiday décor and many collectible items, too. If you are civic minded this is the place to donate your gently used clothes and household items!

I think the Goodwill was way better. This is smaller and a bit more expensive and stuffy.

I really enjoy shopping here. It is super organized, the ladies who volunteer there are nice and truly like helping people. Even though none of them speak Spanish, I saw them trying their best to answer questions of people who didn’t speak English. When I offered to translate, they were very appreciative!
They also have some brand new designer clothes (Free People) that I love to browse through.
One con is their limited business hours. They close way too early. :-(

The Justice League (as my coworker accidentally called it, and now will forever be our nickname) is a great little thrift store in downtown Newhall. Fun, talkative friendly staff. Proceeds go to Operation School Bell, last year they helped local under-​privileged girls with prom dresses and makeovers. Was impressed by that.
Clean. Walkable, organized. Great prices. Good kid books. Tons of turnover with merchandise, so there’s always somehing new.
Only downside: it closes @ 4, so if you aren’t blessed to get off work when school gets out like me, then you probably won’t make it before they close, around 4.

The ladies here were very friendly and welcoming. The merch was awesome – Thanks for the donations, Santa Clarita!
What I REALLY love is that the folks who work/​volunteer there really make an effort to keep the merchandise organized in each section so that things are easy to find and pleasing to the eye and promotes a philosophy of dignity (i.e. the clothes are by type and even color and also, the housewares stuff wasn’t just strewn around like in other thrift shops). And they put out merchandise quickly so that you’re guaranteed to find a neat treasure each time you go. Like today, I scored a cool kiwi bird tile from New Zealand. Score!!!
