Gross, bland food. Expensive. Su Ping’s was much better and that’s not saying much.

A good solid Chinese lunch spot with tasty food. This place is close by to work in the food court strip mall so very convenient. There is option to have a to-go buffet and sit down lunch option. If you have the choice, take the sit down lunch as food is fresher and comes with soup and appetizer(egg roll). I had the General Tso’s chicken which to my pleasant surprise was not deep fried covered in sugar sauce– rather it was stir fried chicken breast with a very tasty spicy sauce. Yummy!

I’ve been here several times and now it has become a regular place that I LOVE going too. Not only is the food AMAZING, but their customer service far exceeds all other restaurants I’ve been to. Our family eats out often and I can’t say enough wonderful things about their fast and friendly service. I really enjoy going here because it feels like a wonderful family friendly place for some good food with a smile… not to mention competitive prices for quality food. I’m so glad to have found this place and would go through with drawls without it :)

The price is ok(for lunch) — but the portions are small. Today ordered«chicken something» — got only 3 pieces of chicken, the rest was the sauce. Soup bowl is only half full. Seems like they are saving on every bite. Previous owners were more generous.

The last Chinese place at this location was Su Ping. Su Ping was terrible, but I thought I’d try Red Phoenix to see if the new ownership had improved it any. Sadly, I got about the same as I did as Su Ping’s. The chow mein tasted like wet cardboard. The string beans were over-cooked and had no flavor. The Mongolian beef was okay, but I’ve had much better, even at these sorts of Chinese buffet type places. The food was so bad, I didn’t even finish it and went to the bagel shop next door for a sandwich instead.

Red Phoenix was formerly Su Ping. It is under new Ownership. The New Owner has another restaurant in Mountain View that serves Northern Style Chinese food and has very good food. She actually remembered me from her other place. She has owned Red Phoenix for about a month and is making changes slowly to the place. Red Phoenix is decorated in an Ultra Modern type décor. I ordered the Crispy Duck and Steam Rice. 15 Minutes later I had my Crispy Duck and Steamed Rice. The Duck was Flavor-able and not Oily or Greasy. I enjoyed it . I even ordered a Combination Chow fun Beef, Chicken, Shrimp To Go for a late Dinner. They take Visa or MasterCard $ 10 minimum charge. It will be interesting to see how Red Phoenix ends up after the new owner makes all her changes.

Ok now this isn’t the place to go for mind bendingly delicious chinese food, but its a pretty darn good spot for a quick meal… I’m happy that Ping’s was taken over by someone new, with new cooks and dishes that taste like something. I mean, its not that hard to make fried rice taste good, right? Ping’s sucked, Red Phoenix is like a million times better! My only gripe is the Black Pepper Beef used large ¾″ cubes of sinewy beef. They weren’t chewy to the point of needing to be spit out or anything but I feel if they cut the beef into smaller chunks or strips the dish would have been better. If you work in the area, go to school at Mission, leaving Great America stomach emptied, or are in the area looking for a quick, not too expensive meal that will fill your gut, give this place a try. I’ll be back for sure!

I work across the street, and working late. My co-workers want to get some Chinese food. When we walk-in we realize they change ownership. We used to come here at lunch time. It’s use to be ping restaurant. Now ping had been replace by «red Phoenix» it was very nice inside. Their menu has not been fully developed yet. Several items on the menu were not available. We ordered six items to share. Pot sticker, wor-wonton soup, honey walnut prawn, Mongolian beef, twice cook pork and orange chicken. All the dishes that we had were great. The price is very reasonable and the service was supper friendly.

Red Phoenix is a decent lunch spot for me and my fellow tech geeks working in this Bowers/Great America Parkway neighborhood around the 101. It’s got everything you’d expect from an Americanized Chinese food establishment. Classic dishes such as General Tzo’s Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, etc. Sweet and spicy flavors galore. And of course, there is the obligatory hot and spicy soup. They have two types of offerings — made to order, or «The Buffet». Made to order is your list of lunch specials that come with the dish, choice of steamed or fried rice, choice of soup(egg drop or hot and spicy), and and a fried spring roll. For the buffet option it is the cafeteria-style pick a rice or noodles plus 2 items and choice of soup. The Buffet option with 2 items comes out to $ 7.10 after tax. The made to order /lunch specials comes with choice of soup and a fried spring roll, will run you ~$ 7.70 inclusive of tax. It’s a 3-star, A-OK because it is simply an acceptable option for quick Americanized Chinese lunch, with decent flavors and value. Nothing to write home about.
