Named to Sunset Magazine’s list of «Top Ten Seafood Spots by the Sea, ‘The Endless Summer Bar — Café has vintage surfboards hanging everywhere, surf videos from all over the world (of course, including ‘The Endless Summer»), and fresh seafood straight from the fisherman’s market around the corner. SUNSET liked the popcorn shrimp and the seasame-crusted Ahi on a warm spinach salad; many of the local fishermen stop here to ‘talk story’ at day’s end over a Rincon Burger or Fish Tacos, washed down with a Marina Mai-Tai (also featured in Sunset Magazine) or an Endless Summer Blonde Ale. The Endless Summer is a world-famous surfing film made in the early sixties that help define the genre and mirrored the surf culture which has become such a part of California lifestyle. Stop by The Endless Summer and get a taste of that spirit. And, by the way, Endless Summer filmmaker Bruce Brown might be sitting next to you, with a Half Dozen Oysters on the Half Shell.
History
Established in 1999.
The Endless Summer is a world-famous surfing film made in the early sixties. In the late ’90’s, my business partner, Larry Stone, and I were introduced to the filmmaker, Bruce Brown, by a mutual friend. After a couple of hours of «talking story», Bruce said we could open a restaurant with his blessing; the name, The Endless Summer; and a bunch of memorabilia (which is on the walls surrounding our guests). You might notice the poster of The Endless Summer 2, a later film, which Bruce and 2 of the films’ stars signed. I liked Robert August’s (from the first film) comment: «Glad I’m here eating and not workin’ like you. It’s great.» Larry’s wife, Nan Allison-Stone, helped design the place (Nan is also a partner). Given where we are (by the boats), we buy most of our Fresh Fish from our Fisherman’s Market around the corner. Bruce might be sitting next to you, enjoying Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell; he lives just up the road, and comes in from time to time.
