Rocket Fizz Soda Pop & Candy Shops

This is the best candy shop in the world. They also have retro-​style sodas and toys. Love how the clerks always know everything about what they sell. Just wish they had Bön-​Bons which I came in looking for.

This shop is how I imagine the inside of the gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel would look like. Super colorful and somewhat overwhelming.
There were two girls working on a Sunday evening. The cashier was very friendly. She offered us a free taffy each. I got the caramel apple and J got maple bacon. The caramel apple tasted like what it was supposed to but the maple bacon tasted really nasty. It tasted like burnt popcorn but not really, I can’t even describe it, but it tasted nothing like bacon.
They offer rare candies and treats such as Larvets, which are real larvas. If you are not feeling adventurous, they also have some common Japanese candies and soda such as Ramune and Hello Panda.
I ended up getting a strawberry Jones. I know, they are not even that rare, but I have always wanted to try a Jones and I haven’t seen them anywhere. I was offered a reward card in which I would get a free soda after purchasing a total of eight soda.
Definitely worth a visit! You can look around and admire or be offended by the old signs everywhere, eat bugs, try taffies, or drink some strangely named soda all in one little shop. I know I will be back to try another flavored Jones.

Best taffy selection that I have ever seen!
They have the most amazing flavors that taste just like you can imagine. The buttered popcorn is on point as well as the maple bacon.
There are a lot of interesting items here including the soda pop and the bacon cotton candy which was truly addicting.

So Rocket Fizz is a chain of sorts. We have one in our neck of the woods. But the Santa Barbara one had me less than excited. The candy selection was seriously lacking in comparison. Or, we are spoiled at ours. Either way, we left kinda disappointed. I mean, my kiddo got Mint M&Ms… woohoo. Our local Rocket Fizz had imported candy from Germany, Canada (yea, not SUPER far I know), Japan, Israel, the UK, and Ireland (just to name the few I know off the top of my head). I really didn’t see that kind of selection. They had a lot of standard stuff, lots of taffy, and of course the soda pop. But in terms of candy, I would say 80% of it you could find at Safeway… I would suggest coming for the gag gifts, the soda, and the fun décor. But the candy selection (other than taffy) left a lot to be desired.

Such a fun store! Great variety of candy and random memorabilia/​retro/​toy/​gag gift items. If you’re looking for a candy that’s different or hard to find, they probably have it. They also have a massive selection of sodas (you can mix & match to make your own pack). I’ve wandered in here a few times without knowing exactly what I’m looking for, yet never leave empty handed and almost always find something for someone else, too. Check them out; you will not be disappointed!

Best place if you are a fan of black licorice! They have so many varieties but I liked their own house ‘shoe laces’ of black licorice the best. We also purchased some soda, black licorice (of course) Black Cherry, Root Beer Float & Green River (Lime) Very unique store but keep in mind you’ll be lugging around a bunch of heavy sodas all day if y ou shop here early.
Lots of nostalgic candy all the stuff from when I was a kid that you can’t find anymore except in specialty stores like this. So glad they still exisit. It was like bike ride on my schwin with the flowered banana seat, sissy bar and ape hanger handle bars. Staff really friendly and helpful.

This is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to in terms of candy/​soda shops. They have weird and hilarious soda flavors like Stalinade or Kitty Piddle, which are great! The 12 pack is only $ 16-​ish and you can mix and match whatever. Also, shoutout to the girl working there today – she was super friendly and very helpful :)

Taffy = Happiness. This place is a candy galore! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Monica was especially informative and just simply awesome! A must visit!

If you have a major sweet tooth then this is the place for you. When you walk into Rocket Fizz you are welcomed by endless amounts of candy and soda pop. Be prepared to be overwhelmed!
This place is not only fun for adults and kids but it’s very nostalgic. You will be taken back in time to your childhood days. From Mary Jane, Bit-​o-​Honey, Charleston Chews, Chick-​o-​sticks, Abba-​Zaba, etc… They have anything and everything you can imagine when it comes to candy!
The soda pop selection is pretty unique and inventive with flavors such as — Banana nut, Cinnamon, Black Licorice, Cottony Candy, Gingerbread, Green Apple Jalapeño, Bacon soda, Buffalo Wing soda, etc… I’m not sure if I would ever try any of these flavors but they would make cool gifts.
They also carry retro and gag gifts, concert posters, movie posters, and tin signs.
This is the only candy store in Santa Barbara that pretty much has everything you can imagine. I would pay this place a visit before going to the movie theater just to stock up on sweets. I will definitely be back here!

Pretty much whatever decade you were raised in, coming here will bring the memories back.
The variety is nice, I really feel like saying I didn’t see this or that, but I’m scared to because it might be in the store, but I got caught playing where’s waldo with sunkist fruit gems, which they have: D
The customer service was meh, like they know who to be nice to aka tourists.
It’s a store you have to check out, glucose all around you.
The soda variety is amazing too. didn’t look at it much but it seemed deep.
All I need is this life of sin is me and my jolly rancher sticks.

Truth be told: I wanted to stop in this place because of the name… pretty cool, eh? A candy store in downtown SB is what’s going on here!
This place has every kind of candy imaginable… they let you sample the salt water taffy, and they have flavors I’ve never even heard of!!! Salted Caramel? Blueberry Muffin? They got it!
They also have every flavor soda imaginable too… if you’re looking for that buffalo wing flavored soda, you could find it at this place! I don’t drink the stuff in any flavor but a small part of me wanted to try it. I was soooooo full from dinner I didn’t buy anything but this place is candy heaven!
…And I write this review from Illinois right now, a little bummed I didn’t pick up any of that salt water taffy :(

Simply put, Rocket Fizz is a family-​friendly treat for the senses!
Located on State Street in the heart of EVERYTHING Santa Barbara, Rocket Fizz is a fun shop that will appeal to the sweet tooth in everyone.
Candies and sodas galore is what the shop specializes in. You’re likely to find candies and sodas from your fondest childhood memories, as well as some you didn’t think even existed anymore! They even have specialty soda’s made just for them; though I think I’ll pass on the Bacon Soda (even though I adore bacon). The décor here is colorful and fun; and the employees are friendly and quite helpful. They were able to guide us to put together a fun Easter Basket for my mom when we couldn’t find anything at World Market.
A simple review for a simple, straightforward place. This is a fun spot to visit and should be on every visitor’s list of places on State Street to enjoy!

How fun is this place. All sorts of taffy and soda pops! We got all sorts of flavors. The Crème soda really tasted like cream! Crazy!

In the 1995 Disney film «A Goofy Movie», a half awake Goofy sleepily asks his son Max how many cups of sugar it takes to get to the moon. Max confusily guesses «uhhh…three and a half…» To me, three and a half seems too low. Are we not to assume we are taking a shuttle or some sort of rocket to the moon? A rocket propelled by sugar? Ladies and gentlemen, I submit for your approval– Rocket Fizz.
Okay, probably not the greatest of segue-​ways, but Rocket Fizz does indeed have a vast selection of sugarrific goodness. They carry classic and contemporary sodas and candy and numerous funny vintageesque tin signs. You can find candy such as Nerds, Reese’s, Bottlecaps, Pixie Stix, Mars Bars as well as Japanese candy like Hello Panda and Pocky. And if your big into taffy don’t fret ’cause Rocket Fizz has you covered; they have a whole wall on the right side of the shop dedicated to taffy. Don’t forget to grab yourself a free sample (they let you choose any one piece of their various flavors).
And what would Rocket Fizz be without their selections of bottled sodas? They carry their own brand as well Virgil’s, Dad’s, Ramune, Hank’s, and Frostie just to name a few. You can buy them individually or create your own multipack. They even have a cooler which stocks some of them cold.
Rocket Fizz is a neat little shop you can easily spend some time in and they do carry quite a decent selection of sugared items, although the mark up on these items can be a tad steep. This particular one on State Street in Santa Barbara certainly feels like a pleasant addition to their downtown shopping area.

We were walking down State Street and just couldn’t resist this fun looking shop! It is almost overwhelmingly amazing. They have hundreds of kinds of sodas, every flavor of saltwater taffy you could imagine and dozens of funny gag type gift items. They carry vintage candy and all different kinds of exotic candies (candied ants anyone?), a lot of things I have never seen anywhere else. With the cheery music, and all the colorful displays it would be hard to ignore this place, but what really gets it this 5 star review is how FRIENDLY everyone who worked there is! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and encouraged to sample a piece of taffy, any flavor we thought looked interesting. As we wandered through the shop a different girl asked if we were looking for anything and just to help out she gave us a little breakdown on what types of products were on which displays, to help us find our favorites. When we found a kind of candy on one of the specialty tables that we had never tried? She pulled a jar off the counter and encouraged us to try it, all while asking us where we were from, if we were enjoying Santa Barbara and recommending restaurants and other shopping in the city. I wish we had parked closer so we could have taken some of the specialty sodas, oh well, there’s always next time! We left with a bag full of candy, sticky fingers and stickier teeth. I will definitely come back next time I’m in town!

This place is awesome. Foreign candy, vintage candy, classic candy… every type of candy you could possibly want. They let you sample one piece of taffy while you browse the packed store. They also have TONS of novelty toys and gags and the vintage signs on the walls are for sale. The girl who helped me was super super friendly and nice. I am definitely coming back.

It’s stores like this that brings a little happiness. It’s a vintage candy store. I mean, what more can you want. Some of the prices can be a little pricey but how else can a business that makes minimal profits stick around. I definitely don’t want to see them going anywhere.
I enjoy trying their different sodas as well as trying different candies. I also enjoy looking at the vintage tin signs. Being only 21, this store must be completely different for an older adult group seeing that they grew up with a lot of the stuff they sell that you usually don’t find in your day to day businesses.
If you are ever in the area I suggest checking it out. Definitely friendly for kids and who knows, they might learn something about the past or your past just by going into such a well crafted vintage candy store.
