This a great day! Tino’s is back open serving delicious sandwiches. At their new location on Carrillo St. The new storefront looks great. Looking forward to many more lunches here. Great excite!!!

I’d give it a 3.5 I tried a super delux and it was good, but I could have made it at home.

Arguably the best old style deli in Santa Barbara. I have been coming here for many years and they never fail to serve me a great sandwich. Subway it is NOT and that is without a doubt a good thing. Kind of sad to see their moving as it just wont seem the same as the décor was part of the experience. Tino will be missed but his legacy will live on with the«Super Deluxe»

I can’t imagine the years that I’ve come here just for the Super Deluxe. For a while I worked down the street and Tino was responsible for more broken diets thanks to the mouth watering oily sandwiches. Our families saw each other through more family events. You weren’t just a regular patron. They noticed if you didn’t stop by. Food, family atmosphere. It’s all here. Sorry to hear of the recent loss. Tino is missed. If they treated me like family, that goes two ways.

3.5 stars. It’s all about the Super Deluxe at the Italian Grocery & Deli(aka Tino’s to the locals). $ 6.50 for a big sandwich(torpedo!) stuffed with meats, cheese, pepperoncinis, mayo, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, oil, and vinegar. The staff has changed since my last visit years ago, but the sandwich tasted the same and filled me up for the rest of the day. Tourists, you can get away from the State Street madness by taking De La Guerra past Laguna(about four blocks from State St) and you’ll walk right into Tino’s. It’s a quiet neighborhood and the locals love the Super Deluxe. While it’s not the best sandwich you’ll ever try, it’s better than anything you can get at Subway and it’s definitely a 5-star value.

I love this place! I have loved this place since High school when I played water polo for SBHS and would be starving. I’m back in town and at Santa Clause Beach and the only sandwich shop I want to go to

For the most part this place comes down to one thing the ‘Super Deluxe.’ A sandwich this place has been serving for ages and is well known among locals. It’s a classic Italian sun sandwich with capicolla, ham, salami, peppers, shredded lettuce and oil. The ingredients are good, and it tastes good. Not the worlds best, but above average. Besides that, there’s a decent deli selection of meats and other Italian foods as well as the usual convenience store fare, but most of the their business comes the the deli counter.(.50 a bag for bread ends anyone?) Note that ‘Tino’ the older gentleman that used to run this place(still owns?) no longer seems to be around as well as the older lady I believe was his wife. Several months ago, the place was suddenly cleaned up, signs replaced, things re-priced and several young employees suddenly were running the place although a few other old employees are still around. After seeing a few ‘suits ‘n ties’ with clipboards right before the changes I wonder whether an inspection got them in trouble for something causing friends/family to step in. I don’t know, and you’ll notice they still handle all the sandwiches, meats, etc without gloves, but for the most part it’s cleaner and the sandwiches are still good.

I have been visiting this place for years and years and it never fails to disappoint. The Super Deluxe Torpedo is still one of the best Italian style sandwiches I have ever had. Get it with«everything» and drizzled with Oil and Vinegar. The rolls are just the slightly crunchy, but the inside is soft and delicious and gives just right to bite. Amazing. If you crave a really good Italian torpedo, this is your place!

OMGTHEYCLEANEDTHEPLACEUP! New management. Will eat here more provided they don’t change the food. Outside is even clean! No more oily tables! Best sandwich in town although I was always slightly scared about the thick layer of dirt throughout the store

Oh. My. Ged. Sometimes I let my Unilocal!reviews sit unfinished for months… And other times I have to write them while I’m stuffing my face with a delicious Super Deluxe Nuclear Torpedo, or whatever the hell this thing is called. Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom. *Phantom Chubby* My dog is on the floor begging me for more, sitting on his little butt with perfect posture. «See how good I am mom? See how cute I am? Give me another bite of that sandwich NOW woman!» Some people have Meatless Monday and then go around the rest of the week eating dead things. Sometimes vegetarians and vegans have a Meaty Monday. If you’re gonna do it to it this is the way to go. I’m going to go now, gotta finish this little piece of heaven. To be honest I don’t even know what’s on it, I think ham, salami, and some other meat. You’ll never go to Subway again. Just order one of these sandwiches and try to not get high sniffing the beautiful bread fumes through the bright yellow wrapper while walking to your car.

RIP Tino Zilioto ½/14…He brought us a true authentic Italian grocery. Thank you Tino for serving the best Italian subs in Santa Barbara! I’ve been eating these delicious subs since High School and the taste remains the same. I can only hope the new owners keep the tradition alive! I don’t know what I would do if they ever closed this place. If you haven’t had a Tinos sub then you best get your butt over there!

I fondly remember my first Super Deluxe. It was 1972, summer I think. Italian Grocery was on Olive Street back then, near the Junior High School. Shortly after that the city stole their building and from what I remember public outcry and some hungry city bureaucrats helped them secure a brand new building. We will just call their current location«The new spot». Things haven’t changed much. All you have to do when you go in is to tell them that you want a super deluxe. Maybe they have other things on the menu I honestly have never looked. I just assume that everyone knows exactly what a super deluxe is but in case you don’t it is a sub sandwich, a hoagy! Lots of old school meats and cheese. With mayo and oil and just the right amount of pepperoncini to give you a little zing in each bite. It is messy and you will go through a few napkins in the process. Fond memories always exagerate the experience and when I had one the other day I wondered if they used to be a little bigger or if the bread used to be a little crunchier. But I also used to think that Space Mountain was a little scarier and that Lance Armstrong was being picked on.

Best sandwich in Santa Barbara for the price. Some complain that their sandwiches are too oily, but these are the naysayers. I find them to be perfectly oiled. At only $ 5.50 for a deluxe sandwich(meats, cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc.) its a screaming deal for a great lunch. The drinks and snacks are cheap as well. Awesome family owned buisness in the heart of SB.

One of the best submarine sandwiches in Santa Barbara. I have been coming to the Italian Market as long as I can remember living here in Santa Barbara. I always get the regular with lettuce with mustard and mayo. The olive oil is also a good addition and makes the sandwich taste better, though more greasy(be sure to grab paper towels before you go out the door). The great thing about there sandwiches is that the meat is actually imported from Italy, so you know it is an authentic Italian Sub. I haven’t gotten anything else in the store(besides potato chips and a drink with my sub), but I have noticed they have some products from Italy. If you are a resident or visitor to Santa Barbara, be sure to stop by this place and try one of these fantastic sandwiches.

Had the Super Deluxe. First off, it’s not Super in taste, size or any other attribute. It is most definitely smaller than a Subway foot-long, has the same kind of meats as the Italian BMT and the quality is no better. It also cost $ 1.50 more, they offer no options to add on and don’t even have spicy mustard. The lady who made it wasn’t wearing gloves, didn’t wash her hands after the previous order and had the voice of a smoker; very appetizing. The old woman at the cash register engaged in a 10 minute conversation with the person in front of me during the rush lunch hour. I did not happen to have cash and their credit card minimum is $ 10 so I had to get out of line and add 2 things I didn’t want to my purchase. We live in the 21st century. Places that don’t take CC or have minimums are cheap in their very nature. This translates to other aspects of their business. She tried running my card twice and both times it came up cancelled, prompting her to say my CC was cancelled. Idiot. How about you figure out that your machine doesn’t take Mastercard and you post a sign stating that fact. Finally, the visa worked. Asked for a bag and she threw me the tiniest paper bag in the store(for a sandwich, drink, chips and candy bar) and didn’t even offer to bag it until I stared her down. This place is a joke. I will never go back. It’s not quick. It’s not cheap. It’s not yummy.

This is absolutely one of my favorite places to get a sandwich in the whole world. A Tino’s Super Deluxe is one of my favorite things about life. If this place ever shuts its doors, Earth will cease to be a place I will enjoy inhabiting. If you have never had a sub from this shop, shame on you. Now go down there and give them some money.

NOTSANITARY — I’ve been here 10+ times now and the food is still very good but this place is NOTSANITARY. They don’t wash their hands, they’ll go between cash register, grab stuff off the floor, in the back room, to man-handling your sandwich without gloves or a little soap and water. It feels risky every time i eat here… but the food is good. GETSOMELATEXGLOVESGUYS!!!
