Chocolate Maya

Very nice staff and very helpful. I wasn’t crazy about the chocolates but they were well prepared and that was more just my taste. My husband liked them though. The peanut butter and chocolate was good and their caramel chocolate had real caramel in it. They have unique flavors that involve different spices, maple syrup, and various fruits. I did get one of their hot chocolates which isn’t a traditional hot chocolate you might be used to but instead is the melted chocolate. While it’s very rich, it’s extremely tasty and well worth getting. They have a very cute little sitting area and have ample parking in the parking lot right beside them. They have a few items for sale such as drinking chocolate and teas.

The chocolates here are absolutely beautiful. I almost felt bad eating them but the person working there assured me I had to enjoy them (they taste great). Take them to go or pull up a seat and people watch from their very nice sitting area, it’s up to you!

We tried 5 different chocolates and loved all of them. Dark chocolate toffee was definitely the favorite… so buttery and delicious!

I love the chocolates at Chocolate Maya and the staff is incredibly helpful and enthusiastic about chocolate! The truffles are very fine and made by Chocolate Maya. They also have bars and chocolate products from other companies lining the shelves in this small shop right on State Street (but tucked back behind a day-​parking lot. The hardest part is deciding which chocolates to get, and sometimes the waiting since it can take a while to choose and with only one or two staff filling orders… Prices are typical for fine chocolates so bring enough money, but the flavors are bold and complex and he quality is very high.

The chocolate is delicious! i bought 7 bars for my coworkers and 4 individual chocolate pieces for myself to try, and they did not disappoint. Customer Service was excellent and very friendly. They have very good quality of cacao here.

My eyes were immediately drawn to the different shaped chocolates from mice to Ganesh!
The customer service was outstanding and the lady helping me pick out chocolate gave my mom and I a generous sample for each of us. She knew her chocolate too.
In my opinion, this is a GREAT place to get the best quality chocolate in Santa Barbara for an affordably, fair price. Plus there is a huge variety and it all is delicious!
I cannot wait to go back.

Absolutely incredible little chocolate treats here at Chocolate Maya. Very interesting and eclectic selection. Outstanding service. And the chocolate is nothing short of to-​die-​for! If you like your chocolate more interesting and better quality than your usual run of the mill chocolate than this place is a must. I would recommend stopping by to anyone passing through Santa Barbara also. I’ve seen very few places quite like it around the world.

Your store is so special! We have friends from New York who say there isn’t a better chocolate store on the entire island of Manhattan. Best handmade chocolates and curated chocolate bars per square foot.

Well if there ever was a 6-​star chocolate place chocolate Maya would be it. On this particular day it was in the 90s in Santa Barbara which is an extreme oddity. Walking into chocolate Maya and finding the temperature about 68 I can’t tell you how wonderful that was for a start. Then to look at the array of the fancy chocolates lights darks milks oh my god and flavors flavors flavors I turned away and said to my wife pick something I love it all. Well she did and I loved it all. and the wonderful young lady behind the counter The lady behind the counter gave us some samples and gave us a couple more little pieces which I love just as much. This is a must stop chocolate shop in Santa Barbara see you there. It ain’t cheap but it sure is good

It was a sad moment when I got home to LA and discovered that my precious (and pricey) chocolates from Chocolate Maya were flooded in a horrible makeshift cooler accident. I was absolutely certain that they were ruined and that the only thing I would get to eat is the $$$ I spent on the purchase.
But as luck would have it, I was able to salvage them and they (almost) looked as beautiful as they did in the display cases! But how would they taste?
This is why Chocolate Maya gets 5-​stars from me. Even though this was my first time eating Chocolate Maya and don’t really have any pre-​existing experience with them to compare it to, my cooler-​flood-​surviving chocolates tasted absolutely amazing! It’s the kind of deliciousness that makes me pause everything I’m doing so I can focus on savoring the moment. Mouthgasms at its finest! I was lucky enough to indulge in the following:
— Dark Truffle
— Almonds in Dark Chocolate
— Candied Orange in Dark Chocolate
— Rum and Coconut
— Dark Chocolate Ganesh
On top of being delicious, the staff here is really friendly and helpful too. Although the beautiful display case only had two chocolates marked as vegan, the nice woman further pointed out additional vegan chocolates for me. They even let me sample their super rich, super thick vegan-​friendly hot chocolate.

I was super excited to visit this shop. I found it on Unilocal.It was on my list of things to do on my vacation. So being excited and prepared left me horribly disappointed by the rude girl working up front who could care less about helping me. The expression on her face was that of a teenager asked to take out the trash.
The prices are high, which wouldn’t have felt as bad had the «chocolatier» been pleasant and happy to help.
Really they deserve a 1 star. I only gave a 2 because the shop was cute and the chocolates are interesting and unique.

Such fancy chocolates on display. There so many different flavor I could not decide. Love how challenging some of these flavors were. It’s like a candy store for adults that appreciate the cacao. We tried the cookies n cream milk chocolate. It was shaped like an ice cream on a cone. So cute! Perfect for gifts.

I loved this place while I was in town. Every day after I found it, I would take my daughter in the stroller through the back door and let her pick out a chocolate. Everything I tried was delicious. Sure, it’s all expensive ($ 2 for a small chocolate, and upwards to $ 10 for the bigger stuff like chocolate bars, bags of chocolate covered candied ginger, etc). But this is the real deal of chocolate, and a $ 2 treat every day was totally worth it to me.
Service was very nice — even with a sometimes fussy 2-​year old waking up from a nap and deciding what she wanted, the owner or worker was patient and even let us try a few samples. They would get the door for me when I came and left with the stroller.
Everything was wrapped nicely and overall it was simply professional. I look forward to coming back here again when I visit Santa Barbara. I repeat, it’s expensive, but worth it.

I’ve been wanting to try Chocolate Maya for a long time. I met up with some friends for hot chocolate. We looked at the menu and there were three drinks offered — eurococoa, spicy sacrifice and ozzie mayan cocoa. A friend asked to know more about the ozzie cocoa. All the lady said was that it wasn’t available since they didn’t have any. They were also out of biscotti. Some of us were worried about the spiciness of the spicy sacrifice. They offered us samples and also offered to blend half eurococoa and spicy sacrifice. That was very considerate. I ordered the spicy alone. They had the cocoa in thermal carafes, no idea when they were made. The cups looked like they could hold no more than 8 ounces of liquid and they weren’t filled to the top. So, for $ 3.75, you get about 6 ounces of hot chocolate. I’m not a fancy hot chocolate consumer, but that felt a bit too pricey for something that came from a carafe sitting on the counter. Anything over $ 3 and I would have liked a bit of a show or a larger pour.
As we exited, some of us were tempted to buy some individual chocolates. I bought a box of four for $ 9. I was more impressed with the packaging than the flavors. When you combine unique flavors with chocolate, there should be a cohesion of flavor but, for all of the pieces I tried, it felt like I was eating a preliminary test batch that combined random flavors.
After both experiences, I have to hands-​down recommend Chocolats du Calibressan (
) over Chocolate Maya.

Who said I was a Chocolate –Addict? I deny it all. I only ate 1chocolate the good one. This qualifies as good! It’s a fabulous little shop extremely clean, excellent selection of dipped as well as wrapped chocolates. Plus you can arrange chocolate tastings!
There is no chocolate like High Quality Begian but this is a wonderful shop and the quality of chocolate is very smooth, rich. You won’t want to eat just one.
They are beautifully crafted pieces of art as well.
The woman serving us was very helpful and conscientious.

Chocolate Maya is a delightful little shop filled with amazing treats, both made on site and imported from around the world. But I go for the drinking chocolate — dark chocolate melted with hot water, with some chili if you desire. It’s a decadent treat that I have yet to find elsewhere. The truffles are amazing, too.

While in Santa Barbara with friends, we were looking for the second-​most decadent thing to do while out wine-​tasting.
A chocolate-​tasting it is!
The drinking chocolate I tried was sweet and pure, since my boyfriend expertly chose the most silky-​milky chocolate available. Our tasting also came with truffles of our choice and the staff chose the chocolate bars to accompany the package.
Of the chocolate truffles, my favorite was the milk chocolate coconut meltaway. It was pure perfection for coconut-​lovers.
I also enjoyed the milk chocolate with cardamom — spicy in all the right ways. The sea salt caramel was also delicious and very creamy. We also tried the peanut with both milk and dark chocolate.
Overall, we were given a good mix, with our own choices and those of the staff. You also got free water from their water cooler, and trust me, you’ll need a bit of a pallet cleanser after the creamy richness of the chocolates.
Their little sitting room was a bit small, but I can see not wanting to draw a large crowd that would linger too long.

A little gem in the heart of SB. Delicate, handcrafted chocolates with ingredients sourced from around the world from Maya herself. I arranged a wedding tour and we stopped by this charming shop (it is one of the bride’s favorite chocolate shops). The chocolates are heavenly. The truffles are beautifully decorated, fresh and flavors unique. We tried:
Sea salt caramel
Pave (dark ganache dusted in cocoa powder)
passion fuit
fresh mint
espresso
mango
All were good, but my faves were the espresso and mango! Good thing I don’t live in SB otherwise my waistline would expand from a daily chocolate diet. What a treat! Thanks Maya!

After living in Santa Barbara for more than four years I finally stepped into Chocolate Maya to give the place a try and was not disappointed.
Granted, I only purchased two pieces for a small dessert after eating at Casa Blanca across the street but they were delicious.
The store is small yet conveniently located near State Street and the downtown shopping area. I would make this a must on a list of places to stop for those visiting, especially you foodies with a sweet tooth, they carry an assortment of wrapped chocolates and bars from around the world and also offer many beautiful and unique chocolates in a display where you can choose your own.
I picked a chocolate fig square and a strawberry shaped chocolate-​dipped marzipan.
