Memories. This location has been several teriyaki related eateries over the last 2 decades. My earliest memory was when this place was called Chicki Teri. It was run by an elderly asian couple back then. I would come here with a couple of friends every once in a while, talking about all the random ish young adults talk about. Don’t remember there ever being another customer in there when we would go. And I don’t remember what was on the menu. I only remember the chicken or beef bowls and alot of laughs. Then the place changed. It was still Chicki Teri, but only operated by younger people. Then it changed names, and again. This time run by middle aged Koreans. Still teriyaki and some sushi. As for Teriyaki Town, this has been the longest running name since the Chicki Teri days. At first the staff was asian. I only ordered the bowls. They also offered sushi, so I gave that a shot. Nothing special, but it would curb my sushi craving without me having to go to Sagami Tei for some AYCE. But for the last 2 or 3 times I have been there, I only see a latino cook and a latina taking the order. So I avoid the sushi, just cuz my brain prevents me from ordering it when it is prepared by a non-asian. Wasn’t that great before, but just feels so wrong now. So, today I tried something different there. I wanted the chicken yakidori(yakitori?), but the girl said they no longer offer that. Bummer. I got the donkatsu(tonkatsu?) plate and chicken egg rolls. Took it to-go. The food had a strange aroma that I noticed when I got in the car. Not bad, but just… I get home and open the box. Now, I am a novice at asian food(bowls and little cartons of orange chicken are the norm when I feel like something other than burgers or burritos.), but the donkatsu had some kind of mayo with sesame seed dressing. The couple other times I have had donkatsu at other places, there was a sauce, but not this mayo type deal. I dig in. It didn’t taste bad, just different. The plate comes with rice, miso soup, salad, and orange wedges. They use thousand island dressing for the salad. I don’t like thousand island. I can eat it, but I always try to avoid it when I can. I ate it. The egg rolls were strange. The order was for 3 but I got 6 mini egg rolls. They reminded me of frozen store brand type. They probably were. And the most bizarre thing was the little container of ketchup they gave me. Wha? No hot sauce or sweet and sour– KETCHUP! Why do they even have ketchup? They don’t serve fries. Overall, it was ok. It is close to my house, so I will probably go back. But for now I will just stick to the basic teriyaki bowls.
