We’ve got a bit of a quik-​e-​mart thing going on the side to keep things going. Munchies, fine soda pops, and smokes.

If you want it we probably got it. From bubblegum to condoms.

History

Established in 2007.

James Kendrick started up this awesome spot 3 years back and he’s been rockin’ it hard ever since.

Not only a terrific selection but it’s located in the historic Phillips-​Hutton Block. One of only three buildings to survive demolition that occurred to make way for the new Ronald Reagan Federal Building years ago. Added to this you have local political commentary provided by the proprietor and you have one colorful reading experience!

5 Stars for the selection of magazines. They have pretty much everything you can imagine from the popular to the obscure. This is reminiscent of the old news stands you would see in big cities. They also carry small drug store type items like snacks, drinks, candy, gum, and the like.
I saw a few collectible items as well so if you’re looking for a rare magazine, chances are you might find it here.

Stopped by here today and was absolutely delighted. If you’re walking by too quickly along Broadway, you might miss it. It’s a sliver of an opening against a large brick building but once you’re inside it’s like something out of Ollivander in Harry Potter. Except, much much more modern.
Olivander-​esque in the sense that magazines and books line nearly every inch of the walls, with handy lil’ things like chapstick and snackies peppering the place. Like the wand shop in HP (I’m so unabashedly bookish), it’s cramped and completely unexpected if you viewed it from the outside on the Santa Ana street. I love the feel, it’s clean with an industrial, city mood. Almost as if you stumbled into a newspaper shop in NY.
Also, the shop-​owner is a charming older man who usually has his nose in the latest edition of the NYT.

I recently had a change of address and my Wired magazine was mailed to my previous address. I went to various grocery stores and B&N to find the December issue to no avail. Rags was the only magazine store that had 2 copies left!. The rep was super nice on the phone and offered to hold the magazine for me. I’ll definately come here again.

I walked into Rags today and I was pretty amazed at the selection of magazines in the store. There is definitely something for everyone here– metaphysics, art, adult, political commentary– you name it, its there or can get there.
Aside from the awesome selection of mags, there is a nice cooler stocked with sodas, juice and water. They carry cigs, cigars, and some nice treats. I also saw some guy come up and buy a single cig. Hey, not sure if its a regular thing, but it helps when you left your pack at home.
The best part is probably Jim, one of the owners. He’s a pretty friendly guy, so if you’re not sure what you’re interested in reading, I’m sure he can give you a recommendation.
All in all, a pretty cool place right in DTSA. I’m glad there is someone providing our minds with current and intelligent reading.

I have been here a couple of times and I have to say this place is a hidden GEM! The owner is great to talk to and they have a wide selection of magazines to choose from. We are definitely lucky to have it in our neighborhood.

Definitely the sort of place that anyone with a sense of culture can appreciate. I can get my punk rock zine mainline-​fix, my socio/​political commentary urges can be placated, and my toddler son can get free crackers and peanut butter from the owner. This place is ABSOLUTELY worthy of your patronage. These are the sort of institutions that help keep DTSA alive and well and make it worth a drive from Old Towne Orange to visit. Help keep this fine establishment’s doors open by picking up the most recent issue of the Economist, Razorcake, Socialist Workers Quarterly, Tigerbeat, or whatever you fancy. Rags rules!

Great place! Excellent selection of British Magazines as well as lots of cool art publications. Is was very impressed to see DICE magazine on his stand along with many other great newspapers & magazines. San Pelligrino, Chocolate, Gum etc. etc. Check it out!

Why this place hasn’t more reviews amazes me. This store is the BEST independent mom and pops type ran shop where you can find only the best and hard to find magazines. It’s near the Crosby and a short walk from Mil Jugos, Memphis, Lolas (Lola Gaspar) and Gypsy Den. Basically it’s in Downtown Santa Ana. You should pop in and meet Jim. Jim, the happy go lucky guy who nearly three years ago came into downtown bearing the gift that brought such eclectic reading material/​literature to Santa Ana. Better yet to OC.
Everything from poetry, metaphysical, «alternative lifestyle», crafts, hippie shit, porn, news papers from major cities, architecture, graphic design, typical stuff that you will find at Borders, environmental magazines. You name it Rags has it!
Great things like: Giant Robot, Dwell, Flaunt, Bitch, Atomic Ranch, Haute Living… etc etc! Yes, I love this place. Thanks Jim!

An International News Stand right in the heart of Downtown!!! Jim has tried to add every art magazine that the locals have asked for. Magazines, local papers, NY Times, USA Today, international papers, free weeklies and monthlies. Gourmet chocolates and other snacks. The bev coolers haven’t been installed yet but I hear of plans to stock specialty sodas, juices, and other beverages. I hit Rags at least once a week for something to read or something to snack on. Way to go Jim – thanks for adding to the Downtown experience.

Thank god there is finally a fantastic news stand in Orange County! Any mag you could want – art and adventure; politics and personality; graphic design and graphic porn (if that’s your thing); cigarettes and chocolate – what have you. I love it!
