DoubleTree Club by Hilton Hotel Orange County Airport

I’ve stayed at different Hilton hotels. We were down in LA for Disneyland over New Years. Since our family drove, we knew that we didn’t need to stay right by the park. So we searched for a hotel in the Irvine/​Santa Ana/​Tustin area. I don’t think that it was really that far from the parks, we had already driven from the Bay Area. What’s another 20 minutes to Disneyland?
We left Tracy around 2AM and made it to Disneyland at 8AM. We decided that we wanted to go into the parks and that we’d check into the hotel later on. I called the hotel the night before we left to see if we could check in early and they said that 10AM was the earliest that we could check in. That was good to know, but we did not check in early.
When we arrived to the hotel, we noticed that there was valet parking. There wasn’t many people parked in the lot at that time and the lot wasn’t that big, so we chose the self parking. When we got inside, there wasn’t anyone in the lobby at that time. It is a smaller DoubleTree, like others have said. There is a restaurant across from the check in desk, but I believe that was the extent of the restaurant/​bar area. There was an issue with our credit card at check in. The employee that was working with us was patient while we got it figured out.
Since I am a Hilton Honors member, they gave us two bottled waters at no additional cost. Then we all received the chocolate chip cookies that they give at Doubletree branches. We went up to our room and compared to the Hilton Americas hotels, this felt very small. We were on the 6^th floor (top) and there weren’t that many rooms per floor. The hotel was very quiet, we rarely ever saw other people in the hotel.
We booked one hotel room, two adults and three kids. Our kids are 12, 12 and 8… they’re not small kids by any means. I didn’t realize that we needed another room until all five of us were in the bathroom at one time getting ready. But that doesn’t really have to do with the hotel review itself, just an observation I made for regular sized hotel rooms with bigger families.
There is a fridge and a coffee maker (not a Keurig like the Garden Inn Hotels), but there is no microwave. Bummer, since this was a family trip. When I went into the bathroom, I realized that there were only two full sized towels, two hand sized towels and two washcloths. I understand that they must not have that many families staying in this hotel since it is in a business area. But I also noticed that they did not have the hanging rack in the back of the shower with more towels located there. I left a note for the housekeeping service to please leave more towels. They did as requested the next day, when we came back from Disney. They also do not have the Peter Thomas Roth products, like the bigger Hilton branches. Kind of bummed about that, I love those products.
Overall, the stay in the hotel was nice. It was quiet, which was a plus because Disneyland around the holidays is a mad house. It was nice to not have other kids running up and down the hallways, causing a commotion. My kids enjoyed the ducks out at the pond in the morning. Once we figured out where all of the restaurants were located (about five to ten minutes away, max), then we were set with meals. While our stay was fine, it wasn’t anything to write home about either. Solid three stars for meeting our needs at a decent price.

The DoubleTree Club by the airport really feels like a little bit less than a DoubleTree (but doesn’t look like a Hampton Inn). The parking is pretty tight (maybe they were busy?)
The view of the ‘lake’ is nice. Elevators were kind of slow.
Bed was comfy, so all-​in-​all, not a bad place to crash.

Basically I got my room at a discounted rate so I was excited from the beginning. Got there and staff seemed OK. The front desk area has a musty smell of cigarettes but hey maybe I walked in as some smelly person was on their way out. I checked in and room was good. The following night my parents checked in and they fd was totally rude and claiming I never made a reservation for them. when I showed up with the reservation number they rolled their eyes and give us the keys. I noticed the overnight front desk man is rude. Not the security he is cool. He looked for parking when there was none. There’s about 20 parking spaces available for the whole building. I’m sure the staff alone fills the spots. anyway the morning staff is great and the service at checkout kinda balances the grumpy ones that are staffed at night.

I do not reviews often but this is worst Hilton property I have ever stayed at. The building is run down, breakfast is always powered eggs and the food is never stocked up. One of the two elevators is broken (staff said other elevator has been broken for a month) and there are times when you have to wait for a elevator to get to you. The valet staff is rude if you self park asking you every time you walk by them if you are a guest.
There is another Double Tree less than 2 blocks away. Stay there.

If I could have walked out of this hotel before we began our stay, I would have!!! Our room smelled as if a dirty dog took a bath in the sheets and pee’d on the carpet! Seriously, we thought we trusted the Hilton brand but after this stay we are reconsidering that! This is a poor excuse for a hotel. Old, dirty and lacking service.

We have stayed here two other times and I have never had any issues. I am not sure what changed.
Registered for 4 guests but staff only brought towels for two each day.
Breakfast says its from 6am-​10am. We were downstairs at 6am but we were told to come back in 30minutes. They weren’t ready! If you are going to state that your breakfast opens at a certain time then have it opened.

The front desk agent didn’t really seem organized. He might have been a supervisor or manager.
He didn’t even confirm anything upon checking in:
1) he didn’t confirm our bedroom type. When I usually check into a room, the front desk confirms if I still need two beds in my room. This guy didn’t even ask. He just assumed.
2) I know the routine when we arrive here because this is our third time to stay here. They usually give us four cookies because that’s how many people are staying in the room. Well this time he just gave me two. I said, I need four since their is four of us in the room. He was like «oh ok» I guess I just expect it since I have stayed her before. I mean why doesn’t he look at the reservation?
3) again he didn’t confirm how many people were staying in the room. He just assumed their were two people and just gave me the (2) vouchers per day for the breakfast. I had to tell him there were four of us. He gave them to me but I was so annoyed by that time.
I guess when you have stayed at a place more than once you expect the same service.

Won’t be surprised if I get some kind of upper respiratory infection after my stay. Pretty sure I stayed in the same room Sid B. reviewed. I haven’t had an asthma attack in 8 years since moving to CA but had to keep the AC on «Antarctic» after the one I had here thanks to the pervasive moldy smell in the AC when set to anything less cold. It was so cold I couldn’t sleep, my face was freezing, but at least I could marginally breathe.
The «closet» is a short piece of furniture with a safe in it so that the vertical storage is cut in half — even pants and shirts don’t have enough room to hang, let alone a coat. This would be ok for a one night stay except that there are NO hooks anywhere else in the room for hanging. Bathroom door? Nope it’s a pocket door. Hook by the toilet? Nope, not enough space between the potty and the sink counter. At least the hangers are real — I hung my trench on the side of the dresser thingie. The shower faucet leaked. The «why fi» disconnected me every 10 minutes.
The only saving grace of this place is its restaurant — the staff were friendly and the size of the hunk of salmon I got almost made up for the lack of closet space — and the proximity to the Griffin Towers, especially in the pouring rain. Hence the three stars I DID give. The shuttle drivers were nice too. But if I have to return I’ll bring better walking shoes and stay somewhere else.

One of the worst experiences I have had at a hotel. They messed up our reservation. They tried to charge us for parking, breakfast and wi fi when we were told it should have been included. They gave us a room with one less bed than promised. After arguing with a manager for 30 minutes, they finally waived the fees and acted as they were doing us a favor. We ordered room service it came 30 minutes late and the order was missing several items. They finally got this correct after two subsequent complaints. The next morning we specifically asked for our room to be cleaned and when we arrived in the afternoon it was still not cleaned. This place has a staff that does not care and the rooms look run down. Very disappointed!

Terrible! This hotel is falling apart, elevators don’t work, like cold showers? You got them! Bed mattresses are old! Make sure you ask for extra pillows because the beds come with 3 (queen size). Four of us stayed for three nights and kept on asking to please leave 4 towels (kept on giving us only 3)
Staff is friendly but overall, owners don’t want to spend money to make things work right or upgrade the appliances. Won’t come back again for sure!

It may not be large or fancy, or have some of the amenities of other Doubletree hotels, but this is a solid place to stay. My corner room was large, nicely furnished, and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the property is easy to get to, nestled between some offices and high-​rise condos. There’s also a nice quiet lake to walk or jog around, located right next to the hotel
The bar isn’t very well-​stocked, though… mostly just the basics

I spent three nights at this DoubleTree Club hotel in Irvine. This was my first visit to Irvine and I stayed at this hotel due to its closeness to the airport and to my final destination for my visit. Overall, this is a very good hotel. The specific positive comments are as follows:
1. The rooms are well-​maintained, comfortable, and the housekeeping staff was competent and they did their job well.
2. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
3. The restaurant offered very good food. I tried four items on the menu: the smoky chicken quesadilla, the Argentinian been medallions and jumbo shrimp, the fish tacos, and the shrimp tacos. All were excellent: well-​prepared, flavorful, and with pleasant presentations.
4. The valet staff was efficient and friendly.
The only negatives or comments I have include the following:
1. The wifi in my room was generally of poor quality. The wifi connection dropped regularly and this made it difficult for me to work in the evening. I reported this to the front desk staff and hopefully the quality of the wifi system will improve with time.
2. The restaurant had an odd layout. This is not really a criticism and is more of an observation. Half of the restaurant area seemed unused and was an un-​utilized open space. It’s as if they aren’t sure how they want to design the space yet or something. I’m not sure. It would be good to fully utilize this space so it integrates better with the overall hotel.
Overall, though, I recommend this hotel. Their basic service is sound and they just need to tweak a few items to bump up the quality of the establishment even more.

I stayed here January 1-​February 1, 2015 for the Surf City half marathon. I’m from San Diego, and I’ve done 3 other races in OC where I’ve stayed at various hotels. However, this is the only hotel worth my time to write a review. They offered a discounted rate and free parking for race participants. At check-​in, they automatically gave me a 2pm checkout since I was a race participant. I didn’t even have to ask for it. They had a pre-​race dinner the night before for a nominal fee and opened up their free hot breakfast around 4am to accommodate race participants. I did not partake in either because I have a routine I follow before a race, except I went down and got some coffee in the morning before my race. But the fact that they went all out for race participants was great.
Furthermore, their staff cheered and congratulated us when we got back from the race and then gave us free bottled water. I, however, wanted coffee, as I didn’t drink my usual amount for the day prior to the race. Staff allowed me to get some from the dining area!!!
The only issue I had is that their parking lot was small. I would have liked to have self parked but by the time I got back from dinner, the lot was full. Valet parking was free, but you still should tip. This didn’t change my 5 star rating, but I thought I should mention it. I think parking is $ 11 or $ 14 for regular guests.
I will be staying here again in 2016 for Surf City 20^th anniversary race.
Oh and I forgot to mention the chocolate chip cookies they gave out at check-​in. I’m gluten free so my boyfriend ate them. He said they were good.

Beautiful location right next to a lake! I would’ve never found this hotel if it wasn’t for my cousin’s wedding down in SoCal. He and his bride reserved a block here for their guests. What really stood out about this hotel choice versus the other one was the free parking and daily breakfast included with the reduced fee. I thought the morning meal was only for two people but supervisor Lindsey? surprised us with four per day at the Lakeside Bistro left of the lobby. Each morning my family and I sat at the same table right against the glass with an incredible view of the blue lake and sunshine.
Their chocolate chip walnut cookies are AMAZING! I regret not going back for more each time I passed the lobby. Apparently you can because my relatives staying at the Irvine Spectrum Doubletree took advantage of this, so much that even I asked for four cookies for my cousins and I wasn’t even staying there … shh! If you would like to purchase the cookies they’re $ 1 each, forgot how much a six piece tin is. You can also order them online at
Back to the hotel …
Mom booked a two queen room for the four of us, very comfy! We’re Hilton Honors members (free membership!) so our room was on the 4^th floor. The 4^th and 5^th floors are reserved for HH. Bathroom is satisfactory, the door doesn’t swing open, it hides inside the wall so you have to push/​pull sideways for maximum space. The beds were a mix of soft/​firm which is ok for a short vacay from home. We definitely had to use the AC all the time. Housekeeping service is very prompt and courteous: we had to ask for more sheets/​towels the first night and the next day they actually cleaned as per our request within half an hour when we were at breakfast! That was so quick, but maybe I shouldn’t be too surprised since I was so tired from our long drive I slept on top of the sheets and didn’t mess up anything but the pillows. Their iron was a total fail. Time for an upgrade? The coffee machine worked, and there’s a mini fridge.
At the breakfast buffet, make sure you clearly state how many people are in your group or just hand the employee your voucher individually! I gave the guy four and we walked right in. Later on when half of us were sitting he came by and asked for the vouchers. Uh, I gave them to you? So I had to go to the front and tell him the last name and room number. Geez. The next day with a lady went much smoother. Breakfast was pretty good, given that it was included in the hotel fees: French toast on Saturday, pancakes on Sunday, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes, oatmeal, assorted cereal, apples, bananas, etc. The lighter option comes in the form of a separate fruit bar on the left with watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, grapes, canned peach slices, yogurt, and hard boiled eggs. They have dispensers of apple juice, orange juice, 2% milk, water, and boxed 1% milk & yogurt cups in a small refrigerator. To the far right is an assortment of bread: sliced white/​wheat, bagels, and muffins.
6−10am daily, get there early or risk being left with just cinnamon raisin bagels.
They serve breakfast and dinner everyday, but lunch is limited to weekdays, same with room service, I believe.
The GPS tells you to go around the left side of the hotel and you end up circling around the property. Just keep going straight on MacArthur/​Hutton and make a left turn at the stoplight right in front of the self parking. Overnight self park & valet are both $ 11, if I recall correctly, or $ 3/​hour for valet.

Came here for a conference, upgraded my room to suite with the lake view. Not much of a view of the lake since the trees were in the way. Room very spacious and clean. Front desk very efficient and friendly. Free breakfast came in form of a voucher but I was there for 2 nights, only got one voucher and was not informed to receive another one till I asked in the restaurant. «one voucher a day», strange that my voucher would have my check out date for a 2 day stay but I needed to get a voucher each day per the restaurant. Anyhow, it was a good stay, rooms were cleaned, convenient location, too small fridge in room but otherwise, I would come back.

5 stars to the man at the entrance who helped me find the car rental
0 star to the one who asked me whether I was ‘working or just having fun’ while I was waiting outside.

For the first two years working at my company this was where the Christmas parties would be hosted. Every year they would serve the same thing. Some kind of chicken, some veggies, and a kind of fish. All of them were very delicious. The best thing about this place is the bar area. I usually get the adiós or the mai tai. The adiós in my opinion is a bit weak compared to other places but the mai tai was one of the best I’ve had anywhere.
The room where the events would be hosted is relatively large. Its big enough to fit about 50 people with plenty of breathing room so its a comfortable setting. Parking is easy and its free if you are going the events or you can valet and just tip them later. There are a couple of television screens inside the rooms so you can catch all the sporting events in case you don’t wanna mingle. You can also gamble as they have a craps, poker and black jack table.
I’ve been inside one of the rooms too for a pre-​party before the x-​mas party and its a very spacious room. The décor is nice and cozy. It reminds me of one of the hotel rooms my friends and I used to rent out for a New Years party. Too bad we don’t host here anymore. I love this place more so than our new hosting location.
When you leave don’t forget to pick up some complimentary cookies as Doubletree cookies are absolutely delicious.
PS Valet service is much nicer here than the other one I go to now

I have stayed at this location multiple times while on business. The rooms are always clean, the staff is always great, the location is perfect, and I love the perks that Diamond Members receive.
I was here over the past weekend to participate in the 2015 Surf City Half Marathon and was very impressed with the entire team at this DoubleTree. Stating that this DoubleTree goes above and beyond for the race participants is an understatement. I was amazed with Michelle and the rest of the staff at this DoubleTree. The check in process was easy and all race participants receive some of the perks that Diamond Members receive (free breakfast, free bottled water, and free parking). I asked about receiving a late checkout and they stated that they have already taken care of it by extending all guest’s check out to 2:00 PM. They even stated that they can extend it even longer if I needed it. One word… Wow!!! The DoubleTree offers a bus ride to the race and back. You can reserve your spot on the bus right after check in. Michelle took care of us with this one. We reserved our time of departure and she handed us a wrist band to ensure our place on the bus. Let me add that the DoubleTree hooked it up with a luxury bus with plush seating. The night before the race, the DoubleTree also offers a dinner for their racing guests to carb load. We didn’t take advantage of the dinner, but I’m sure it was good.
On race day, free breakfast is served starting at 4:00 AM. The fact that they serve breakfast 2 hours earlier than normal is a huge perk for me. This gave us enough time to eat without rushing. Our bus arrived on time and we were off to the race. After our run, we used Lyft instead of taking the bus back to our hotel. I admit, I read the reviews and was a little bummed that we didn’t take the bus back. I heard that the staff of the DoubleTree congratulates all the runners while they exit the buses. Upon arriving at the hotel, I see Michelle outside as we exited the car. Michelle is such a sweetheart. She immediately ran inside the hotel when she saw us. When we entered the lobby, we were given a standing ovation, cheers, high fives, and was treated to some post-​run hydration/​snacks. My goodness… Michelle and the team at the DoubleTree, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Overall, I would have given this hotel a solid 4 stars based on my past experience. But after my stay for the Surf City Half Marathon, there’s no way I’m giving the DoubleTree any less than 5 Stars. I may not have PR’d my run, but they sure made me feel special. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I’m here for the Surf City Half Marathon… this is one of the host hotels and I couldn’t remember the hotel I stayed in last year so I decided to give this one a try. It’s farther away from the hoopla of Huntington Beach… but, with the pre race past dinner for $ 14.95, free breakfast, shuttle bus to the race and other small perks… it was perfect. I was really amazed at how the staff has gone above and beyond to make this weekend special for the runners… they even greeted and congratulated us in the lobby upon our return… I definitely will stay here again… hats off to the staff for excellent customer service… and outstanding rooms… very clean, up to date, comfortable and included free wifi.;-)

Surf City marathon is my objective.
I do like the welcome cookies and it was delicious. I must admit I had more than one.
Checked in on a Saturday after we picked up our race bib.
We were then given instructions how to arrange for the shuttle for the next day’s event. We were given a wrist band to identify us from the regular guests just in case they wake the butt crack of dawn and manage to sneak into someone else’s seat.
I do like the pillows, it was comfortable and the room temperature was just right. The amenities were good. The coffee maker was easy to use and I don’t like reading complicated instructions. I did notice the noise in the air conditioning but that was not a deal breaker.
Every runners requirement breakfast: Well I would have loved some steak and eggs but we know this is not good on for long runs. They did have oatmeal, cereals, fruits, and of course bagels. Oh of course the coffee was better than the coffee from the room.
I originally gave this place four stars but after my 26.2 mile romp I was compelled to take the stars a notch up.
Why you ask? Well for the non-​runners out there, having a shuttle drop you off to the start of the race/​event is a piece of mind. You don’t have to leave extra early to make sure you get parking. The shuttle service took care of that. The shuttle on the way back waited for the stragglers, I don’t know about you but not everyone can cover 262 miles precisely in two hours. When the runners disembarked from the shuttle, we were greeted with the hotel staff with cheers and congratulations on the milestone we had accomplished. That was special on my book. Additionally, I asked Michelle the event coordinator of the hotel that we need to shower before we can check out, she assured me that we can stay past the already really late check-​out of 2:00 p.m.
Having said that, once I get my «fat» butt slimmer and ready for another marathon in Huntington Beach rest assured that I will stay here again.

I prefer staying at the DoubleTree even though it is a smaller «Club» hotel compared to the other one that’s just a couple of blocks away for a few different reasons. There are some things that annoy me about this hotel however I stand by my 4 star rating for the «pro’s» out weight the «cons» in my book.
The Pros ~ extremely comfy beds. I always get a great night’s rest when sleeping here. Their rooms are always very clean. The staff is very friendly and eager to serve. They are very conveniently located near the Orange County airport. The have a great lake area full of ducks to jog around in the early mornings. They also have some great eateries, delis and coffee shops very close by.
The Cons ~ The shower head is too low. The rooms are a bit dated but still comfy (especially the bed) Their restaurant is not the best place to dine. They need to add USB jacks. Did I mention the shower head is too low…
Again, they are a solid 4 star place to stay when your traveling in this area of Southern California. I hope to see you there some day.
