Chunk-N-Chip

Had the strawberry and black pepper ice cream. Interesting flavor, but the black pepper got to be too much spice. Also had the almond rose cookie. Not bad. Chunk N Chip is decent ice cream shop and great dessert option.

Finally got to try this place after following them on instagram a bit. I have to admit. i love all trucks that have store fronts because i hate searching online to find where trucks are. So to have a store front is awesome.
While at 4^th street market in downtown Santa Ana, originally I came here looking for Dos Chinos. Super lucked out when I saw signs that said chunk n chips was also in the same building. After having lunch i went straight over for some ice cream. The guy was superrrrr nice. Like service couldnt get any better. My oldest daughter sampled some ice cream since there wasnt just plain chocolate there. Shes very particular on ice cream so i always let her pick what she wants. She likes how the cookies & cream tasted so we ordered an ice cream sandwich. 1 chocolate brownie cookie & 1 chocolate chip cookie filled with cookies & cream ice cream. I even liked how it comes with a tray and the ice cream sandwich is wrapped in a wrapper to keep yourself clean.
The ice cream was very light and creamy. Very delicious. What i also liked was the cookie. It came out really soft and sweet. The only con was that by the end of the cookie it came out too sweet for me but the first couple bites were good. It was also a lot for me so i recommend its good to share (especially for couples). Overall it was good and the service was awesome.

Tucked on a wall by itself, Chuck N Chip fulfills the tasty and creamy ice cream craving that one needs on a hot and sunny day. I sampled two cheesecake flavors, the pumpkin cheesecake with ginger snaps and the blueberry raspberry cheesecake.
Out of the two I couldn’t resist the blueberry raspberry cheesecake because of the sweet taste of both fruit combinations. They give you the options of putting your ice cream in a bowl, waffle cone, cookie, or sandwich forms. I chose the bowl option even though I was intrigued by their unique waffle cone flavors such as matcha green tea and red velvet. Their ice cream is very creamy and you won’t be disappointed if you get dessert here after eating at one of the other food establishments in 4^th Street Market.

This place was the only one with a massive line in 4^th street market on a Saturday night. Granted, the other stalls are going through some changes but Chunk N Chip has stayed strong from the beginning! I got the lavender blueberry and vanilla, the two complimented each other well. Fans of lavender will like enjoy this — it has a strong lavender flavor. There were numerous other unique flavors, cookies (hazelnut & oatmeal?!), and interesting cone flavors that I’ll have to come back and try. Although the line was long and there was only one guy manning the entire place, he stayed pleasant the entire time and worked fairly quickly. I’d go back next time I’m in the area.

This place was surprisingly good. I came here with some friends for dessert after lunch at the other restaurants in 4^th Street Market. We all got ice cream. The lady was nice and gave us lots of samples to try. We ended up getting 1 scoop ($ 3.50) which you can choose up to two flavors. Our favorites were the Orange Blossom and the Pumpkin cheesecake (with ginger snaps) ice cream, so we decided on those flavors for our two scoops. I also liked the Lavendar and Blueberry (but it’s quite strong in lavender flavor). We were about to go to Scoops, which is a few blocks away, but I’m really glad I gave Chunk-​N-​Chip a shot! I would return.

Not sure why there are two chunk n chip Unilocal locations for the same place, but I will write my review on this one because it has the correct address.
Is it bad that whenever I eat any meal l feel obliged to get some dessert after? I am forever cursed with a sweet tooth but luckily I can easily shrug off the guilt within seconds.
Anyways, on to chunk n chip. Located inside 4^th Street Market, pretty easy to spot. Cute little spot that is on a corner.
Chunk n chip sells crafted ice cream cookie sandwiches. I love how the ice cream flavors & cookies are unique and creative.
You can get a full sandwich or half order. Or you can opt out for just cookies or a simple scoop of ice cream. However, after countless times of coming here and experimenting with the options, I have came to the conclusion that it is more enjoyable to eat the cookies and ice cream separately. I advise this because the ice cream eventually melts all over the delicious cookie & ruins the experience. By eating the two separately you can enjoy the unique flavors for what it is.
Also, you can get samples of the ice cream so try a couple out before committing to a full scoop. However, since it is not a perfect world, you can not get a sample of the cookies but thats ok because they are all good.
The cookies are warmed to perfection. It is still in tact but has a gooey texture that allows it to fall apart in your mouth. All the cookie flavors are yummy, but I recommend buttermilk & honey. It is nice on the palette and not to sweet. You also can’t go wrong with the good ol chocolate chip.
Overall, I am a fan of chunk n chip and will continue to come here to satisfy my sweet tooth! =)

The cookies are delicious. They put them in a conveyor oven prior to serving them, so what you get is a warm, chewy cookie.
The ice cream flavors are unique, but the texture of the ice cream is really off. Icy and not at all creamy.
For the price, the serving size is offensive, especially since the ice cream is below average in quality. You spend less money on the super fancy, liquid nitrogen ice cream parlors, so I don’t see why this place needs to charge as much as it does.
I did receive pleasure from the warm cookies along with the cold ice cream. But I came primarily for the ice cream, and it let me down.

It was the end of the evening when I came, so that might be a factor, but I think this place is alright. If you’re already here for a meal, Chunk-​N-​Chip is a great place to stop by to top off your meal with a dessert. If you’re craving ice cream or ice cream sandwiches in particular, you could probably find a better place somewhere else. Tried a couple of their flavors, which were somewhat unique, so that’s cool if you’re into trying new flavors. Banana cream pie salted caramel was a good combo of flavors. After being on an ice cream craze recently, I feel Chunk-N-Chip’s ice cream didn’t impress me, and the cookies were okay. The cookie was still kind of hard despite the fact that they had already warmed it up — which kind of cheapens the experience of the cookies & ice cream combo for me. I expect ooey gooey hot and soft cookies with my cold ice cream.

Some of the best soft & chewy cookies around! Ordered 4 cookies, it’s cheaper that way. It costs $ 3.00 for every 2 cookies you buy. :)

This ice cream shop located within the Downtown Santa Ana 4^th street market is pretty good. They have a good variety of flavors and they are pretty unique. I tried the French Toast with candied bacon as well as the Pumpkin Cheesecake as we enter the fall/​Halloween season.
I asked for samples to try both and then after tasting them, couldn’t decide which was better so ended up getting 1 scoop of each, haha. The staff is friendly and helpful and the price is fair. They have a few cone options but we opted to just have it in a cup.
I’d be excited to try them again to see what creative flavors they come up with next. Pretty cool and convenient shop to get ice cream if you’re already dining in the 4^th street marketplace.

Who doesn’t love a good old-​fashioned ice cream sandwich? Only these bad boys are anything but old-​fashioned. With ice cream options like Horchatta, Banana Cream Pie made with Bourbon & Salted Caramel, Rose Almond, Peanut Butter, Thai Basil with Coconut, Strawberry Balsamic, & a plethora of others, & cookie options like Espresso, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Brownie, & Rose Almond, you may just lose your mind trying to decide what combination to order.
Don’t panic, though! Fortunately, they let you choose two different cookies & two different scoops of their extensive ice cream concoctions to make your ice cream sammich. It may still leave you with almost infinite options, but it narrows down the odds of walking away unsatisfied with your selection. To make it even easier, they let you sample as many of their ice creams as you want. And if you’re smart, you’ll bring a friend– or an extra stomach– so that you can milk this binging opportunity for all it’s worth. I brought my Grandma. And we ate two. And then we walked around and ate «real food.» So, You know what? There’s no shame in making the most of your foodie friends & cheat day opportunities.

I really wanted to like their unique flavors and tried the honey avocado, pumpkin saffron, mango mousse and was not impressed.
Since I still wanted to satisy my craving, decided to go order the Banana foster with rum which was pretty good and the green tea Waffle cone since I love anything with matcha. Not sure if thats how it’s supposed to be, but the cone was soft, not crunchy, almost moldable. The $ 5 cone comes with 1.5 scoops.
Service by one of the guys was friendly but the girls were not paying attention at all.

Whew! I had to wait until I woke up from my sugar coma to be able to write this review! This cookie ice cream sandwich was incredibly flavorful, but the sugar content of all the cookies puts it a little over-​the-​top.
Today, I ordered the graham cracker cookie with the French toast and candied bacon ice cream. The guys behind the counter suggested topping it with white chocolate chips and toasted coconut. The first couple of bites were intensely delicious, but there is a point about halfway through the sammich (that’s what they call it) where you discover the line of «too much of a good thing». It gets overly sweet as the ice cream melts and squishes away and you’re left with just cookie.
Next time, I’ll probably try the ½ sammich and see if I can fight the pending tooth ache.

I had the pleasure of trying Chunk N Chip at the Savor Santa Ana event. After recently relocating to the OC, I’ve been following them for awhile on Instagram waiting for the moment I would finally be able to sink my sweet tooth into one.
I’ve tried ice cream sandwiches from a variety of dessert shops, locally in LA, in the bay and also in SD… Dare I say this was the best ice cream sandwich I’ve ever tried? I just might.
Here’s why and what I ordered:
+fruity pebble ice cream = best cereal/​ice cream compilation I’ve tried. It actually tastes like the cereal in milk and the pieces of cereal aren’t large enough to become soggy but present enough to get the cereal experience
+snickerdoodle cookie = I might be biased because snickerdoodle is my favorite flavor BUT what really sets this apart is that the cookie is perfectly WARM, soft yet crumbly, enough to break apart effortlessly with each bite without becoming a mess. Omgggg just thinking about it makes me wish I had one right now
The other half of the cookie sandwich was Hazelnut Oatmeal. Just so I could try more flavors and this sounded the most appealing to my palate. It was also good, but I’m just a sucker for that snickerdoodle, gonna do both sides next time.
From the event we also tried the red velvet cookie which was also amazing. And then buttermilk cookie that was good but nothing notable for me. We also tried the French toast & bacon ice cream. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of mixing sweet and savory so I’ll pass on it next time. Can’t wait to go back!

Yesterday was National Ice Cream Day and Chunk-​N-​Chip was giving out a free scoop of ice cream from 3−5pm! :) What a nice SundayFunday treat!
Service: The cashier taking the orders was friendly and allowed me to try different flavors. Once my order was placed the service was extremely slow. The girl scooping everyone’s ice cream was struggling… Maybe she needs to hit the gym to lift some weights ;p It took her several minutes to scoop each scoop of ice cream.
Noms: All the flavors I tried were excellent! The horchata was one of the best Ive had. It even had little bits of rice inside, which was a nice surprise. The chocolate hazelnut orange had a nice blend of flavors. It tasted like nutella ice cream with a little hint of orange making this ice cream unique. Finally, the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake… this flavor tastes as expected and there is no explanation needed. The chocolate chip and the espresso cookies were good shockingly tastey. They were delicious, buttery, and tasted like they were freshly made.
Overall, Chunk-​N-​Chip lived up to the hype. There cookies and ice cream were solid and I would definitely come back if in the area. I would recommend a faster ice cream scooper so that customers don’t melt while waiting in line. The ventilation inside 4thstreet market is not the best.

Chocolate brownie waffle cone with banana foster icecream — the waffle cone was good. Tastes like those brown brittles they sell at grocery stores. Icecream was good, but I think I had a hard time tasting the banana… maybe cause the chocolate waffle was overpowering. Still good nonetheless.
Lavender & honey cookie with strawberry fig icecream — oh my my. The lavender cookie iwas delicious. It’s SO good. If you’re not a fan of floral-​y stuff, you might not like it, but as a daily tea drinker, I like it. Soft and chewy cookie. Icecream was delicious. The taste was subtle, but there, which I liked.
Tried their French toast with bacon, oh man… not for me. I was excited to try it, but that bacon flavor was just too much for me. Definitely want to come back to try their fruit pebbles icecream and green tea waffle.

I feel like I should stop reviewing ice cream places because I’m starting to sound repetitive in my declarations of love to every single ice cream shop that pops up BUT I can’t help myself… just like I can’t help myself but go to every single new ice cream place that opens up (or exist but I haven’t been to).
Chunk-​N-​Chip is no exception to my love of ice cream. Located inside 4^th Street Market, it is the perfect place to grab a dessert after eating from one of the many food places the market has to offer. They have many ice cream flavors to choose from and several ways it can be served to you (cone, cup, or between a cookies). I’m currently into lavender flavored ice cream so I was very excited to see their Lavender Blueberry flavor. It was not overly floral-​y and had the perfect mix of blueberry and lavender. The Patron Coffee and Coconut flavor also caught my eye so I split my single scoop between those flavors — YAY for being able to split a single scoop!!!
In short — get ice cream here after you are done filling up on the other good eats 4^th Street Market has to offer.

Chunk-​n-​chip is a food truck that found its way to a brick-​n-​mortar shop located inside the 4^th Street Market. I’ve been following them for years, and know that their products are made by hand, and uses only the finest ingredients.
So sadly, I can’t have a large quantity of dairy. But, that doesn’t stop me from having one of the freshly made cookies that CNC makes. My favorite is their Lavender Honey cookie. It has a very subtle flavor of lavender (so not overly powerful like a Persian ice cream) but just the right amount of sweetness with the honey.
CNC doesn’t makes these very often so today I noticed that they had them for sale. I purchased 2 cookies: 1 for now, 1 for later (or maybe I may give it to Stephen to try). As I was waiting for my cookie, the employee placed them on a rack and warmed them up for me. Tasted like fresh out of the oven… oh so yummy!
If you are a fan of ice cream AND cookies, they offer their sammich, where you pick 2 cookies (mix or match) and a scoop of ice cream. If you check into Unilocal,they offer $ 1 off between 2:00 — 5:00 during happy hour.

«CUTE» does not work for me. It’s just another fancy ice cream place in 4^th street market.
I had a regular sammiches ($ 5.5) which you pick 2 cookies of your choice and one ice cream.
I picked rocky road, not very creative I know.
When I got my order, It was probably the most TINY scoop I ever had.
Ice cream itself was good but not great. I guess for such traditional flavor of Rocky Road, Thrift Ice Cream did a even better job.
Not a fan of cookies but why would they serve ice cream in a warm (hot) cookies. Ice cream melt fast. The concept put ice cream in two cookies kind cute but can you really eat them together? No, you use a spoon, and eat the left cookies alone.
Ended the cookies were too sweet and ice cream all melted.
Staff was very friendly but that is. Maybe I will try the Orange blossom that everyone raved out next time without cookies next time.

Chunk-​N-​Chip is perfect for the 4^th Street Market. They make their own small-​batch ice cream and craft cookies. There are a plethora of unique and seasonal flavors of both the ice cream and cookies. I ordered Banana Cream Pie Salted Caramel (yes, that is one flavor) ice cream with a chocolate chip cookie. The cookies seemed a little on the small side to me. I went with the half because I personally felt that two cookies would be too much dessert, and I loved that option. They warm up your cookie and you receive it after a few minutes. A plus for those who are environmentally conscious: the «sforks» are biodegradable and the cookie boxes are reusable. Overall, a nice sweet treat to cap off your visit to the Market.
