First of all — and I know this is just me being a little OCD — it’s Willowcreek Park(one word), and not Willow Creek Park. The latter is a park in Park City. Even the Sandy City website calls it Willow Creek, but the sign out front clearly shows it as one word, and that’s what I’m going with. Now that that’s settled, what’s there to fuss about? This park is located just south of where Creek Road intersects Highland Dr(2000 East) in Sandy. It’s like a large basin, with the parking and pavilion and playground up on the rim of the west side, a trail that traverses the rim, and a large, grassy field at the bottom. It was on that field that I perfected(ha!) the art of throwing a frisbee to myself(wouldn’t you like see that?) and where I had to run laps on my youth league soccer team. There’s also a tennis court at the park, but I’ve never played there and don’t really recall the condition it’s in now that I’m not looking at it. Gone is the slide made out of long, metal cylinders that rolled when you sat on them a la production line. I nearly lost a finger many times, so that’s no big loss. The real value of the park lies in the big baseball and soccer field. It’s another spot for the massive Sandy Parks & Rec kids to play ball and that’s what you’ll see here in the warmer months. Other than that, there’s a nice pavilion for functions, or just a nice sized park to pop in when you need a little break from the pavement.
