C & J Fencing

We had struggled to find a Fencing company that didn’t gouge us on price. We were replacing the fence between us and the neighbors — we both have big dogs that love to ‘talk’ to each other via scratching and jumping on the fence that hadn’t been replaced in decades.
C&J had reasonable pricing and they were very helpful in splitting the bill between us and the neighbors. The scheduling was tough, but we were doing this mid-​summer, so a month and a half out was the best we were going to get in a high-​demand time. The guys who came to tear down and install the fence were so professional and FAST. I barely had time to take pictures of the before and after. They really knew what they were doing. They were also very kind and communicative about helping us save some of the old fence — we re-​purposed them into planter boxes.
One star off because my husband found a few workmanship problems, but they sent a guy to fix those problems the next day. All very seamless.
The gal, Michelle, in charge of our bill was so sweet and gave me a small extension to pay so I could charge to a particular credit card for points: P. Once we get the other neighbors to agree to a new fence, we’ll be calling C&J back. Thanks guys!

We used C&J to replace about 200 feet of fence. They were prompt with the quote, competitive with the bid, and good with follow up. We had asked for all clear boards and noticed a few had some knots — they replaced they all, no problem.
No fence company will ever be perfect but these guys are super responsive and very much on top of the whole process. Great follow up.
By the way, the woman below from the HOA is off her rocker… nothing but 1 star reviews. Ignore her comment… what a horrible Unilocal user.

I wish there was an option for zero stars because C & J does not even deserve one star. My HOA hired this company to replace our back fence. We were given a 11÷16−11÷30÷2015 install date with no actual day-​before notice when to lock up pets. They propped the gate open all day and our dog decided to take himself for a walk. A knock on the door would have been nice, but I guess they figured why bother when they can just let themselves in the backyard without notice. The work was incredibly shoddy. For example, they didn’t bother attaching the ends of the deer fencing to the posts and used broken fencing. They also used a 2X4 and two nails to attach the side and rear fencing rather then an actual post like they should have. I had to hunt down the crew to get them to attach the back and side fences because they left the side fence falling over after the job was «complete». They left our yard an absolute mess including destroying our flowerbeds and leaving old nails and wood all over our yard. Calling their office is a joke. All I got was the run around and never once received a call back or an apology. If your considering using this company RUNNNNN! They are all around terrible!

We got a quote for our fence and gate replacement from C & J, and then my daughter saw their Unilocal!ratings and insisted we get additional quotes. All the other quotes came in as high or higher and only one had a comparable warranty.
There was no problem communicating with C & J to confirm our order and our installation date. On the promised date, the crew arrived promptly and completed the entire job as ordered.
The fence and gate are exactly what we asked for. We are extremely happy with the price, quality and customer service and would recommend C & J to anyone.

A few of our neighbors got together to replace our fences and we contracted with C&J Fencing. We all received a solidly built fence (went with extra thick posts), gates reinforced with a metal frame w/​key locks, and they also treated my fence with wood preservative (messy and I didn’t want to do it). No problems with scheduling notification, and they showed up promptly on time and worked a honest day until the job was completed. The removed all traces of the old fence.
I felt the quality of materials (no mold on wood), fence design and construction quality, common sense decisions to trim hedges/​trees (to get the new fence installed) only were needed, and follow up warranty service were very good.
The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was they over sprayed wood preservative a bit on a side window. I did not notice for a few months, but that is a lesson learned (see end of my review).
With any business transaction, I think the key to working well with the C&J folks is to document in the work order exactly what you want, and then walk through the job with them after it is completed. Call out the issues or deficiencies to their attention. I am certain if I called C&J to right a wrong, they would be there for me.

My gate post warped and would not lock anymore. I placed a warranty call to Kim at C&J and she immediately scheduled a repair appointment. The C&J repair team showed up on time today, installed a new post, and got my gate working again. Thanks Kim and the work team that resolved my issue!

I want to express the great job you did on our new fence. Ryan was awesome through and through. Got our installation moved up earlier and we appreciate the effort. The crew was very professional and left a very clean worksite. Thank you again. You are awesome

Wow, I am shocked to see this update…6 months later… And your response is a very clear reason why I would never trust or recommend your company.
The community was well informed of the fence renewal, but as many of us own animals, we asked for a days notice prior to fences being done. I literally had guys in my yard, with NO notice. Then when a notice was sent out, it listed a Saturday date… but then work began on Monday. I have proof of many other neighbors that experience the same notice.
And yes, I did have two accounts, «you caught me!!!» I didn’t realize I had one on mobile and a different on my laptop that I don’t use so as much as you «caught me», that’s an honest mistake, unlike the mistakes your company seems to make quite frequently.
And in regards to your number… your employee showed up at our door and when my husband asked for your number he responded «I don’t know», I get that numbers can be posted on workers backs, truck etc. but it was a simple question…
If the person that I «verbally abused» because he unexpectedly showed up in my yard with a crew of men, when I was home alone with a newborn, and two dogs I needed to lock up, was new on the job, perhaps he should have received better training. And then you come and literally knock on my back patio to yell at me when I have a newborn in my hands… wow. You kept saying «do you want you fence done or. not», well yes, now that it’s torn down, I don’t think I have a choice… I had never felt so threatened before in my life. You pounded at my back door! The excuse you gave for not completing work on the date indicated on the notice was «we’ve been delayed in work due to so many calls complaining about our workers»…umm welllll maybe that’s a sign you don’t run a decent company???
The HOA said you were the absolute worse contractor they had ever hired in their entire history and expressed they had an insane amount of calls from currant tenants complaining about the notice that wasn’t received and the amount of disrespect that was given to their property.
I could go on and on, but based on your Unilocal stars, and the reviews of others, I need not say more. If I’m so «far off» with my review, I’ll ask the tenants of our complex, who I know we’re very unhappy, provide you with their honest review of the fence replacement project.

Good company, great staffs from the office to the fields. We are very satisfied with the job they perform. Will certainly recommend to our friends and neighbors.

Update: First opportunity C and J Fencing had, we were contacted about the gap and the very next business day they came out and completed the repair beautifully. It actually was a perfect resolution and we are satisfied. So while we had poor experiences in the past, it is my hope that we have the «old» C and J Fencing back. We used this company a few times in the past (prior to this last work order) and always had very good service. We would like to be able to continue using this company–
I am keeping the original review posted along with this update so people can see that when a problem is brought up, you should get a response. I believe that things are working differently and others who have had bad experiences will/​should be getting things fixed as well.
Original: C and J Fencing says that this is the industry standard. We called them back when they first put in the gate and new fence, concerned about the gap. They told us that this is the industry standard and the wood would expand to fill the gap. The gap is so huge now our 70 pound golden retriever can push right through because there is not enough fence to hold the gate latch.

We were very disappointed with the quality. At least 20% of woods with mold. They are mixed with unfinished, rough, and splintered pieces of wood in the fence, literally with nails still sticking out of it. There was one area didn’t follow as described in the contract; they promised come to fix it but we waited for at least 6 weeks. We ended up took care of most of the nails by ourself to prevent possible injury from those nails. We won’t use this company again for sure!

Got a quote for a very small fence and gate in April. They never called to give me the date of the installation. I called several times before I finally got a date scheduled. That should have been my first indication that I was in trouble with this company. Finally got an installation date in mid July.
The fence was installed and they left… no indication of anything. We had signed the contract to include stain that should have been done at the time of the installation. I had to call the office to find out why it wasn’t done at the time the fence was put up. They told me I had to wait for a call back the following week. Again, no call I had to call and follow up.
Got a date for the stain mid August! They just called the day before to tell me that it’s possible it may not happen tomorrow I will find out in the morning!!!
There customer service is terrible, the scheduler is way too busy to help you and they don’t really care about your business because they are so busy you’re just another number in the queue.

1 more month for stain maybe = a really unhappy consumer!

Did not show up for the estimate. When I called to inquire, they couldn’t have cared less

Very Disappointed. We hired C & J to build a new stretch of fence and as part of the discussion asked them to put a finish on an old fence that did not need to be replaced. We were assured they would do it, and blah, blah, blah, would be all part of the quoted cost.
They did a mediocre job on the new fence and nothing on the old fence. When we asked today about it, we were told «that is extra and there would be an extra charge, any other questions?» The owner was not at all concerned that what was promised was different then what was done.
They also know we have dogs and the fence they did build doesn’t go to the ground, there is room for the dogs to get under. He did say they would send a repair team to look at it. Now we wait
They called back will be a week before they come back to fix the problem. In the mean time not safe for the dogs
I see all the bad reviews. The people are nice, but being nice does not equate to good work, or even work that was promised.
Stay away!

I used C&J to replace a sideyard gate and a stretch of fencing at my Antioch home. It takes a long time to get scheduled for a quote, a longer time to get scheduled for the build. I had issues with what was built and what was paid for. No return phones calls at all. VERY disappointing. I must say, I gave them a check (thinking it was cash) to receive a 3% discount. I was called immediately to be told a check is not cash. Ha! Great. I used my credit card, got the points and made them eat the 3.5% transaction fee. Not happy with the install and no returned phone calls to work issues. I cannot recommend this company at all.

Still no returned phone calls. Upon inspecting the issues with the fencing and gate, there are even MORE problems. I have some ½ saw panels. It looks like someone cut the panels wrong and still used them. They are free floating. Add this issue to the fence posts not being metal when I paid for metal — DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

I’ve used C&J once already and I’m attempting to have them do a little more work. Based on the first job, I’d give them 4 stars. Now, I’m dropping it to 3. And this is ALL due to one single issue: Trying to get in touch with Crystal (the one who schedules the jobs) is next to impossible.
I had this exact same issue the first time around. I’ve called at numerous times through out the day and every time, I get her voice mail. Sometimes it rings once, sometimes it rings multiple times, which leads me to believe she is actively ignoring the calls.
If you want a good price and you want someone to do an acceptable (not great) job on your fence, they’re the right fit for you. If you want quality customer service and you want things to happen in a timely fashion, go elsewhere. The chances of you even being able to schedule the work in any sort of timely fashion is next to impossible with C&J.

There’s a good reason for so many one star reviews. Because this company is really bad. Its a shame — the owner is actually a very nice guy; the estimator is actually a really nice guy, but this company is run so badly, and the work is just so haphazard. It was hard to get a hold of people, return calls just didn’t happen, etc.
This company replaced an old stretch of fence and pool equipment enclosure for us. The enclosure had to be redone a couple of times; the first time, the design was wrong, the second time, the dimensions were incorrect and the enclosure was interfering with the pool equipment, and the third time, the enclosure was coming apart and the gate was pulling down and scraping the concrete when opened. That was last year — this year, we are having the same problems with the structural integrity of the enclosure and the gate is scraping again — poor design and poor installation on C&J’s part (I am not even going to call them — it was hard enough getting them to repair it the first time, which means we will have to spend money on this to get it fixed correctly). There were also delays in getting the endcaps (month +) to finish the fence. The fence was supposed to match the existing fence, but details were missing. The worst part was that when they sealed the fence, they failed to use drop cloths and concrete that had been put in 2 weeks before was stained with backspray and drips. It took a while to get it fixed. We were able to eventually work out a resolution to our satisfaction, but I cannot recommend this company — there were just too many problems involved along the way.

Poor customer service! Long wait times for warranty repair work! Once they’re paid for the job… its onto the next sucker! They have been «no show» twice now for appointments with no courtesy call to reschedule or apologize. Kim in the office is very rude on the phone to deal with… unresponsive when u leave a message. I will never use C&J Fencing again nor will I recommend them to anyone!

Run don’t walk. These are the worst customer service people on the planet!!! They NEVER return your calls and always make excuses for the problems they create. If you are having problems with them PLEASE call the state contractors license board. That’s the only thing that gets their a. In gear. I would not let them put up my fence for free if they offered. That’s how bad they are!!! Please read all of the bad reviews and see that they are having the same problems with most of their customers. Again run don’t walk!!!

Update STUPID EMPLOYEES: Yet another bad day dealing with C & J Fencing. We were supposed to receive a 24 hour notice when work on our fence would begin. Today 5/​1, my husband received a notice stating that the fence work would start on ⁵⁄₂. My husband asked the person delivering the notice (Pete) if it was for sure going to be done tomorrow… Pete said he didn’t know that he was only handing out letters and didn’t know when the fence would be done. My husband advised him that since we have dogs, we need a specific date. Pete told us to speak to the main office, yet didn’t know the number to it. HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THE NUMBER TO WHERE YOU WORK???
My husband called the office and the receptionist who answered said Crystal would handles these calls wasn’t in and wouldn’t be back in until Monday. I called and I spoke to a «Jenny» who advised me she couldn’t help and would transfer me to the answering machine for Crystal. I advised her I needed to speak with someone immediately. She transferred me to someone also by the name of Jenny. I have a feeling the first person I spoke to wasn’t a Jenny but was too damn lazy to help me. The second person Jenny again, was helpful. She apologized left and right and told me she would immediately contact the person on site (Pete) and find out what the heck is going on. Waiting for a call back now… in the mean time… filing a complaint with the better business bureau and any other contractors board I can find.
How can a company run this way with such stupid employees???
If I don’t get a notice with an exact date and anyone steps foot on my property, I will have everyone arrested!

I had our 80′ back fence replaced. They installed the wrong lattice type along with two boards that were badly marked up.
Got a hold of their QC Kristine via email and phone. Said I would hear back from the owner Chris. Didn’t hear back from him after several emails to Kristine for over a week. Chris eventually called me and wanted to charge me $ 350 to get the lattice changed out. No way. Not paying more money for their mistake.
Also found a portion of an old brick wall from the neighbors side that was left on my side of the property. Chris said he would have his crew remove it. Its been over a week and its still sitting in my property.
Also discovered that 1 support beam out of the 3, was installed on the wrong location of an existing fence post. We have an old post that was very weak and needed that support beam installed. Instead, it was installed on another post that was fine to begin with. I addressed this with Kristine and said she’d have Chris call me back. Again, its been over a week and no call back.
Fast forward to tonight. We had a storm come through with strong winds. I come home to find the older fence collapsed and has fallen down. Why? Because the support beam wasn’t there to support it! Because they installed it on the wrong post, my fence has now fallen down.
Another frustrating thing about this company is there is no way to get a hold of anyone over the weekend. Not even an emergency number, nothing. So now I have to deal with a collapsed fence for the entire weekend if they don’t check their voice mails.
The owner Chris visited my house unannounced. I didnt apprecitae that. A phone call prior to the vaisit would have been the way to go. He explained that they dont offer weekend service. He still offered to replace the lattice, but at this point I wanted to be done with their company and simply move on.
This review was a bit more heated when all this happened but I felt I should post this a few weeks after the ordeal to let my emotions calm down a bit.
