We’re open when most veterinary offices are closed — providing life-​saving services 7 days a week!

History

Established in 2000.

In year 2000, Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center was formed by the merger of Crow Canyon Veterinary Clinic and Norris Canyon Veterinary Medical Center of San Ramon. The goal was to develop a 24-​hour, state-​of-​the-​art medical center for pets and provide for the needs of the growing San Ramon Valley area. In 2006, Marketplace Veterinary Hospital of San Ramon joined Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center to further expand our service profile to the community. We now employ 13 veterinarians with special interests in all areas of veterinary care.

Since the inception of Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center, we have continued to raise the bar for quality veterinary care. The conversion to completely electronic («paperless») medical record keeping, and the purchase of new ultrasound, endoscopy, digital radiology, and laparoscopy equipment are just a few of the examples of innovations that have allowed us to offer the most advanced, least-​invasive diagnostic and treatment modalities for our patients.

Manager

Margaret is a graduate of UC San Diego and Purdue University. A member of Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care since 2001, Margaret’s passion for animals and veterinary management has helped shape the hospital into one of the largest veterinary practices in the Tri-​Valley area. A veterinary technician for more than 10 years with experience in emergency and critical care, she has managed multiple veterinary hospitals and is now responsible for over 90

employees. Always on the go, she enjoys traveling, gardening, sailing and spending time with her husband, dog Kiel, retired kitty blood donor Vinnie Jones, and Captain Jack a 47 year old California Desert Tortoise.

Technicians can make or break a veterinary practice.
I will never use BRVC again, since Saturday afternoon one of the technicians, who was clearly an idiot, gave my dog a nice big shot of a steroid instead of a sedative. No excuse! Next time someone sends a little girl in to be my dog’s technician, I’m walking out immediately… I don’t care whose vet practice it is. I guess I should just be happy that she didn’t accidentally kill my dog.

We love everyone at Bishop Ranch Vets– Dr. Wong has seen both our Corgi 2 – 3 times in the past couple of months (allergies). She is so kind and spends so much time explaining things. We have been bringing our furkids to BRVC for over 25 years… Love everyone there– the staff is so kind and genuinely love our kids.

The staff are friendly and efficient. The vet was thorough and answered the questions I had. My dog, Tiki, loves everyone there, and they are all very sweet to her. I had an appointment, and didn’t have to wait.
We have only had routine care so far, so I can’t speak for their surgical/​illness capabilities, but if the routine visits are any indication, I’m sure they are excellent.

I’ve brought my pets here for years and years. They are the best. Super kind caring staff. Well organized. I trust my pets lives with these guys. They have nursed my furry friend back to better health several times. They offer round the clock care. I take my pets here still even after moving to the south bay. These guys are the Stanford Health of vets. Clean facilities. Streamlined process. Wish their prices were a bit lower though. It’s tough when they get sick without a tech company salary. Makes their care hard to afford. But I find a way somehow with Bishop Ranch because they are competent and kind.

Very friendly staff that knows what they are doing. I would recommend this place in a heart beat! My Corgi mix Louie came in with an eye problem after a previous hospital had made it worse and the staff quickly figured out the problem and took action! Nice facility too.

My family has been clients of Bishop Ranch for over a decade, before they even built their current location. I moved away about three years ago and was switching between vets until recently when my cat passed away. It was around 8pm that I found her as I was coming home from work. My vet was closed so I called my mom and she recommended I go to Bishop Ranch. I live in San Leandro now, so it isn’t very close but I made the drive there. She had already called them so I didn’t have to do anything when I got there. I appreciate that they want people to focus on grieving instead of taking out your credit card, signing a million papers and sitting in a waiting room. A young lady came out to the car and got Helen. They took care of it swiftly and with great care, I had already said goodbye.
Yesterday, my mother took our 13 year old Great Pyrenees to Bishop Ranch to be put to sleep, he was in pain and had lived an excellent life, if you don’t know about the breed they are huge dogs. Very protective, yet incredibly loving and devoted to their pack (us). Dr. Pogrel had been his vet through our lives with Murphy and my mother adores him. He has been our vet on numerous other pets (and we have a lot) and always is very kind and warm. This being a very hard decision to come to (Murphy had been struggling with arthritis and a host of other problems at almost 13 years old) was handled extremely graceful by the staff. I went there not sure if we were making the right decision, it is never easy to do something like this. I don’t live with them anymore so I didn’t want to pass judgment, but when I saw Murphy in the back of my moms car I knew he was ready. They got us a room right away. We spent about 30 minutes talking with Murphy and laying with him. The Tech’s prepped him as I held onto him, massaging his ears. Finally the Doctor came in. We brought our Pekingese who was his best friend and she lay next to him. it was all very peaceful. Hard as it is I knew Murphy was in pain and was finally relieved. The right decision had been made, and the vet was seamless as it should be in this type of experience. Thank you guys for all your work and professionalism with our pets.

Love this place, the staff, and the Vets. They are top notch. With 4 cats, I have a lot of drama and I’m always able to get in for urgent care. They really care and do amazing work. Shout out to Dr. Larry Gilman who helped this past week treat a bad abscess.

I have continued to experience friendly, compassionate, and excellent care at Bishop Ranch. Everybody that I interact with there are really great!
I love Dr. Dodd … She is a very special person with a wonderful, kind and easy going personality. I always feel that she is honest and tactful and of course she is a very skilled veterinarian! I absolutely trust her with my beloved canine family members. She also takes good care of us humans !!

Update: We’ve had Dixie’s teeth cleaned again here & had same wonderful customer service & results. We also used to try to do nail trims at home & they were horrible for us & Dixie. Decided to see if the nail techs here could do it even though she gets so scared at the vet. I don’t know why I didn’t try at least before… because it was flawless! Takes 5 minutes & they say she’s calm too. Now we go every other month for her pedicure & it’s quick & painless for us & her!
Also, Dixie has bad eye cataracts & Dr. Dodd has been helping us monitor them as she slowly gets more blind. She given us suggestions & watched for glaucoma too. So reassuring to have a great vet! We just LOVE the bedside manner of the whole staff here!

Phenomenal staff and service ! Every time I receive care for my pets at this facility I am always greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Some of the perks of this facility is having access to the opinion of their top of line veterinarians, friendly reception staff, knowledgable vet techs, prompt appointment scheduling, and weekend operating hours. Great job Bishop Ranch, you guys are definitely a shining star when it comes to GREAT veterinary facilities in the bay area.

I recently posted a review about how wonderful Dr. Vega is and I still stand behind my previous review 100%!! I plan on continuing to see him for routine check ups and would follow him to another clinic.
Unfortunately though I felt compelled to write this updated review due to the inexcusable cost of this veterinary clinic as a whole.(from my limited experience) One of my dogs is currently taking a medicine that is in very high demand and short supply. I had to get on a waiting list in order to get it which is completely understandable. The part that is not understandable is the 30% higher cost for the exact same pills I am now purchasing from my previous vet who sends it to me in the mail from SoCal. I just hope they aren’t taking advantage of their clients intentionally. This clinic is also unwilling to work with online pharmacies as their «policy» to make sure you spend your money with them.
The much more disturbing part to me though was the following: We were told our puppy needed a tail amputation surgery which she in fact does. The quote we received from Bishop Ranch Veterinary clinic to have the amputation done was $ 4,500! In fairness I believe the quote was outsourced to another Dr. from outside the clinic but was still presented as the Bishop Ranch price. Thankfully we did our own research and found out the average price of the surgery ranges from $ 500-​$ 1,500 on the high end. We have found a very competent Veterinary center that has done this procedure countless times for less than a FOURTH of the price!
The underlying message of my review is BUYER BEWARE and always seek multiple quotes & opinions.
Again, this review is not a reflection of Dr. Vega who we like very much but a review of the veterinary policy’s as a whole.

We used this office for our 3 month old puppy and we come back in three months and it seems like a lot of the office staff is completely different, they are rude incompetent and difficult to deal with if this is a sign of things to come for this clinic I think I’ll be looking for another veterinarian… I really like Dr. Vega but the staff and the way that they have handled today’s visit has really been a shocker…

My friend recommended Bishop Ranch after I moved to dublin. I am impressed with Jenn and how she helped me get medical records from my former vet, very efficient.. My beagle had surgery this week and I felt the technician really care and so thankful to Dr. P and Dr. Gilman who treated her.

Half the staff is awesome and the other half is just rude. We have suffered a flea infestation for several months. This vet sold me medication that didn’t work. The vet even said the medication wasn’t good. I asked for help in eliminating the fleas on the animals/​boarding them while we bomb and clean the house and they told me they basically couldn’t help. Just give an exam and send you on your way still with fleas. They don’t seem very compassionate or helpful.
I would have paid whatever they wanted for assistance but they said there wasn’t anything definitive they could help with. Will be taking the animals to the county for shots and figuring out the flea eliminating on our own.
Really dissatisfied with the amount of money/​time I’ve spent here.

While I was a customer for over 5 years, I did get some good service. However, for what they charge… there are so many good Vets located in the area that will charge you 1⁄3 the price and give you and your pet much better service.

Fabulous staff. Terrific vets. Prompt care. Good value.
We’ve been taking our dogs to Bishop Ranch for a very long time and I’ve always been thrilled with their care. Their flexible hours and friendly staff make it worth our drive from Livermore. Their prices are fair and competitive. They really care about the animals they are taking care of and always follow up with a check in when something is not as it should be. I really appreciate the extra attention they give to each client and hey way in which they explain the options and benefits to each one. They also normalize that some clients might not choose to mortgage the house to get blood work and X-​rays on every small blip and that’s okay.

My mom takes her dog Sunny here, and I trust her opinion on veterinarians so I tried out Bishop Ranch myself. I have brought my dog here twice and I can see why my mom does not go anywhere else. Dr. Miller and Dr. Vega are both great, and I also was impressed with all of the front office staff and the vet techs. From the receptionists to the pet store associates, everyone here is wonderful. I feel like they really care about my dog Scout. I loved how Dr. Miller and Dr. Vega did not rush our appointments.

After going to a vet who had 5 star on Unilocal with our dog who had swollen anal glands, we actually had to come back here as an emergency case as the other vet completely left my dog in agony and pain.
Basically the other vet cut my dog open to empty her glands without sedating her! Imagine somebody cut on your arms while you are fully aware and feel every move and cut! Horrible! Long story short my dog was in severe pain after procedure and the pain killers I got was not strong enough.
So thankful for Dr. Sagy and Dr. Vega who took great care of my dog. Giving us stronger pain killers which helped her to feel more comfortable and also medication that helps with her swelling. They also called me the next day and checked on Naru. When we came in for a re-​check up Dr. Vega didn’t even charge us :)
I can highly recommend this place and their dr. This hospital runs like a machine, very organized but still personal and friendly!

A couple of years ago I brought my cat Smokey in hoping to find help for him as he was having trouble with severe digestive problems and diarrhea. When I brought him in they did an examination and lab work. This cost more than $ 300 and brought no answers as to what was wrong with him. The next step was to perform an ultrasound, and more lab work and the bill was going to be upwards of $ 900.
I did not have this kind of money lying around (I’d just paid them more than $ 300) and asked if there was any way that I could pay $ 500 of the $ 900 up front and make payment arrangements for the rest. The front office refused and when I spoke to the veterinarian directly, the response was «perhaps you should bring him back when your finances are better suited to the situation.» It is obvious that they care more about the money than they do about taking care of people’s pets.
My beloved cat, Smokey, died and I vowed never to take any of my pets to this cold hearted place ever again. I took myself off of their mailing list and let them know how disgusted I was at their treatment of me. I had brought my pets in before and have never had a problem paying them for any sort of treatment or preventive health exams before this emergency situation.
I would have been happy to never see or think of this place again; however, they have continued to send me reminders about annual preventive health care examinations for Smokey every year since he died. I get these reminders it via email and U.S. mail. I loved my cat very much and everytime I see these reminders it brings back the pain of losing him. It brings me to tears every time.
I called them today and asked them, yet again, to take me off of their mailing list. I have had to unsubscribe from the email listing more than once and I still receive email reminders. Today’s post card was the last straw, which prompted me to write this review.
I have always had pets throughout my life and have dealt with many veterinarians and their offices. I have never come across one as cold and uncaring as the people at Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center and Urgent Care. Although rare, I have been able to make payment arrangements under extenuating circumstances. And to be told to bring back my pet when I have the money is just downright appalling.
Sending me appointment reminders for a pet that you helped to die because you refused treatment because I couldn’t pay everything up front is not just in bad taste, but reopens a wound of grief and pours salt right into it. Talk about cruelty!
I will NEVER do business with these people ever again. Not only are they cruel and uncaring their left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, and that’s just sloppy.
