John R.

Business Owner

One of our three Principals is John. He has been a cornerstone of Minto & Wilkie for 40 years. John was born and raised in Marin. He was born at Ross Hospital. He graduated from San Rafael High School and College of Marin. In 1968 he graduated from Golden Gate University in San Francisco with a BA in Business Administration. He entered the Insurance Industry in 1970 and is currently the executive vice president and one of the owners of Minto and Wilkie in San Rafael. He is an active Rotarian, and a member of the San Rafael Mission Rotary. John has a son, Joel who lives in Paradise, CA with his children, as well as a daughter, Casey who lives in Chico, CA with her husband and two sons. John and his lovely wife, Cynthia enjoy Sea Ranch with their dogs during their down time. They also love to scuba dive, golf and John enjoys underwater photography.

I just want to say how happy I am with my agent Tom Santomoreno with Minto and Wilke! I’m a general contractor and I was getting bombarded with letters in the mail to sign up and get my liability insurance with a company in the East Bay. I did thinking I was saving some money. I met Tom one day and he said he would love the opportunity to quote my insurance and I told him the company I was with and who I was insured with. He did some research and found that the Insurance broker I was with had me insured with some company that he couldn’t find and said if I really had a claim my clients and I would never get paid if we had a claim. Now I have my General Liability, my workers comp and even insurance for my tools thru Tom and it turns out it was almost the same price! I really can’t say enough about Tom he is a great guy and is really easy to get ahold of if you want to check your coverage or even need any info on any of your policies!!!

Did business here for five years, after gross miscommunication on their end, becoming hard to reach and refusing to make things right. They left me with ten days to hire a new broker and said I was abusive to their staff for trying to communicate my frustration.
I am left in a panic looking for a new broker and have never experienced this from a business in my life. I am an understanding person and always try to give others the benefit of the doubt.
First, they told me a couple of my employees were not a valid waive on my group plan. I explained over and over that they were and valid waive. They told me maybe I should look at individual coverage. I wasted hours looking at it to figure out on my own my employees WERE valid waives always were… This entire thing was then turned around on me.
I also explained I preferred their old method of doing business where they actually took phone calls easily and made in person meetings to make changes. This seemed to irritate them to no end… Instead they do almost nothing but emails which they were constantly misunderstanding and blaming on me!
Their tone became uglier and uglier, until to my shock they fired me for trying to show them exactly where the errors came from.
This is a joke, I have owned a business 14yrs and see thousands of people every year. All they had to do was listen to my concerns correct the issues and I would have stayed potentially for years. You don’t ever blame a client when your quality of service drops. Do not use them be warned. I am so happy they don’t have my business anymore I should have left the minute they were rude.
