Martin & Harris Appliances

Sold us an extended warranty for GE Profile Electric stove top that is useless. When sliver trim failed and began to loosen, we are told it was «cosmetic» and not covered by the warranty. Will not shop there again.

So disappointing! I had heard that there was this local place to buy/​repair appliances. Should have been better service than the large chains, right? Wrong. When the service repair person came to make a diagnosis why my dishwasher wouldn’t shut off, was told that I should change detergents and nothing was wrong. The unbelievable thing is that when I call to discuss what to do next (btw changing detergents didn’t fix this), no phone calls back. I left four courteous calls. It is has now been over a week. Hard to fathom such bad service from a local place… off my list for good.

Terrible experience, never buy from them. Our stove was promised to us by Christmas, it was delayed several times and then it showed up to our house damaged, twice. We had no oven for the holidays. They were reluctant to give me a significant discount and even tried to blame the damages on the manufacturer. I later found out that the owner was one of the people making the delivery and when I asked about a refund for my trouble, he pretended that he would have to «talk to the owner.» It’s been two months and we still have no oven and they haven’t refunded our money because their bookkeeper is on vacation. I believe in supporting local business but I suggest no one frequent their business. My wife works with the public and we are friends with several contractors and we will be telling everyone. They had an opportunity to make this right and they declined, so I’m writing this review.

I hate to be overly critical of a local merchant, but these guys need to get their customer service up to shape. The servicemen who have come to our home have been very pleasant to work with, but the overall management is horrid.
We have now been without a dishwasher and working freezer for over a month, and they seemingly couldn’t care less. We have had multiple instances of them not coming as expected and not calling with updates as previously agreed to. Their service network seems to be a variety of 3^rd party independent contractors who they pass blame off on for issues, yet don’t keep records of any sorts on the status of projects to assist and don’t follow up for you. No need to drown others with all the specifics, but let’s just say they couldn’t care less that we have a newborn baby at home and that we have spent over 7 days at home so that we can let the servicemen in for installations… so frustrating.
I’ll give them 2 stars purely based on the friendliness of those employees who came to our home, but their attention to detail, organization and compassion for their customers truly deserves a 1 star. We won’t be using them in the future based on this experience when we purchase a home, and will actively warn others from using them as well. It’s a shame when you are envious of the service expectations of a big box store… expect the burden of follow ups and maintaining organization to be placed on you.

I went to Home Depot for a range to be delivered to a rental unit I was refurbishing, and never again. For my own home, it’s been Martin & Harris for years. The assistance and depth of knowledge on the showroom floor (hi, Mike!) is unmatched by any of the larger chains, and frankly, M&H’s prices are right on. They have a wide selection of appliances in all price ranges, and you don’t miss waiting for the crazy sales that other places use to get people in the door. Their installers are clean, courteous and professional, and they take away and recycle your old stuff. They’re there when they say they will be, and I have never had the sense that they wanted to be doing something else when I spoke with them on the phone or paid a visit to the store for research. The less-​than-​stellar reviews for these guys are a head-​scratcher to me. Because nothing lasts the way it used to, I do purchase the extended warranty offered, even from M&H.

I have always had the best experience buying appliances for our multiple rental properties and my own personal home. The service and follow through is something to cherish!

Michael, Paul, and the rest of the team at M&H did an incredible job today. First they flawlessly delivered a new refrigerator up a ton of stairs at my apartment, and kindly removed the old one that’s almost dead, again down the ridiculous stairs. Next, I realized that I had left my kitten’s temperature-​sensitive medication in the door of the old fridge, of course after they had already left. Michael found the fridge in Paul’s truck, got the two, tiny, expensive bottles and kindly placed them in their office fridge until I could pick them up. This kind of above-​and-​beyond service is the mark of a truly professional business. I’d happily recommend them to anyone looking for friendly, professional, and caring service!

Purchased a dishwasher from M&H 2 years ago and had a very odd problem. Water
gushing from the left top of the door side. Yikes! Called for help. M&H send out a repair man and after some puzzle solving fixed the issue. Screw (left side) holding the dishwasher to the top of the counter had worked loose and was preventing the door to close completely = major leak. Tightened screw = all is well. Minimal charge. Done! Thanks!

…purchased a Zephyr hood, stopped working in less than 4 months! Service is a joke… I was called by H&M and told a rep from Zephyr will call me in a day or two… I am without an exhaust hood going on day 5! And service from Zephyr in Alameda? In my opinion, it is very poor! When I asked the service rep to transfer me to a supervisor, he sounded like he was going to cry and said he would get in trouble if the call was transferred! I could not believe my ears. The next day… remember, I am going on day 5 with no exhaust hood, and Harris & Martin calls me to say that someone from Zehpyr will contact me… STILL WAITING

We’ve had good luck purchasing appliances however we attempted to purchase cabinetry and that went south quickly. After we placed an online inquiry, we waited a month and never heard back. So we called, met with their cabinet guy, who came over, took measurements and discussed design. He never called back, and then when we finally reached him he said he was on vacation. Anyway, we finally met with him at which point, he was not prepared for our meeting. couldn’t find our design, didn’t have an estimate, etc. Having used Schrock cabinets in a prior home we knew the quality and gave him a chance to send us a revised estimate but never heard back. So… I would not recommend their cabinetry team until they either hire more people or find a full-​time person to manage it.

After reliable service 10 years ago we had an extremely disappointing experience this time in both sales and service. While everything was eventually resolved it is hard to imagine using them again.

Their TV spot boasts a level of service that the big box and online competitors can’t deliver, but don’t believe it. A high end refrigerator we purchased from them a few years ago clearly has a manufacturing defect. The response of their service department, «nothing we can do.» I expect someone to come take a look at the appliance and/​or an offer to call the manufacturer’s representative. Personal service is the keystone for local merchants. We will not patronize Martin & Harris again.

Great family-​owned business & was referred by a local Stinson appliance guy. He only deals with them & for good reason. You may find tiny but lower prices nearby, but they will make service calls for first year of the appliances life. Repair or replace is anything goes wrong. Very personable, fast & reliable service. Gem in Marin! Chris helped me & he was very informative & helped me make the right choice & it ended up being even cheaper. Very pleased!

Before my delivery today from Martin Harris and after reading experiences of recent customers, I became slightly nervous that the company I had known for decades may have had a change in its service mission. although after my experience with Sears, and having to return to washing machines and under two weeks I figured it could only get worse if the house collapsed!
As a long time Marin resident, I have had many wonderful experiences with Martin and Harris and today was no different. The delivery was done by Paul and Bernardo, who were prompt friendly and courteous. They both went the extra mile to ensure my new appliances were properly installed and ready for use.
I know both delivery men were racing off to try to meet their scheduled deliveries for later this afternoon but the fact that they stopped to take the time to make sure this client was happy shouldn’t make it evident to any other client that needs something done they can count on the Martin Harris experience (within reason, don’t be one of those jerks that asks for everything and forgets to say «thank you!» however they choose to show their gratitude. I believe, that the other reviews may be right and maybe they were late or just honest about the feasibility of getting a truck or appliance to your home. I would rather wait, offer a glass of water to show I appreciated the hard work and bring out the smiles and have all my appliances delivered, installed, working, and spare accessories should I need them anyway of the week over halfway finished work or lemon products!
And don’t forget support local business, Or find out the hard way using a big box retailer a few times can result in an inevitable «flood» of issues!

Eight years ago I got a refrigerator from Martin & Harris and have NEVER had a problem with it.
A few months ago, my landlord bought a new stove/​oven for me, and from day one there were problems. Since about the second week, the oven door won’t close because the hinges fall off of the roller. Apparently, someone there is blaming my landlord and I for this manufacturers defect.
I’m hoping they’ll resolve this by replacing the entire unit instead of playing the blame game.

These guys totally rock… not only did they give my wife a great price on washer and dryer the guys that delivered and installed were soooo professional and nice… they were in and out in under an hour and we were all set up with new appliances. Can’t recommend this local store enough… just hugely better than dealing with big box stores and uncaring people…

If they tell you between noon and 2, just assume they will show up right at 2 WITH attitude. It’s no wonder these local companies are quickly going out of business. They lack common courtesies, respect for the client’s property, and general wanting to help you out. As much as I hate to give my business to the big box stores, at least when you’re there they are friendly and helpful.
PS: After completing the job, they left a mess on my floor and of course didn’t offer to clean it up. Nice job, NOT.

Outstanding experience all around. Purchased new front-​load washer and dryer from Martin and Harris and got it installed the next day! Very pleased with sales process. Chris provided courteous, informative & attentive service, answered our questions, and was low key in approach. installers called in advance, came on time, and were courteous and efficient. We purchased our previous washer and dryer from Martin and Harris about 15 years ago, and when the old washer started to leak from underneath (probably a broken drum or seal), we knew it was time to get new stuff. Some of the reviews on these pages threw us off because our past experience with Martin and Harris was also excellent. In any event, we are extremely pleased with the process of purchase, delivery, and install!

Unprofessional is the best way to describe Martin & Harris! They make up stories, never get back to you and them try the old bait and switch. This is why customers stay away from small stores like Martin & Harris. Lowes and Home Depot are far more promising!

I’m a Marin native and Martin & Harris was one of the major appliances stores family and friends shopped at while I was growing up.
When our old washing machine died, we had a choice — fix it or replace it. As it was over 10 years old we opted for replacement.
Based our Consumer Reports research, we narrowed our search to two models, both of which were available at Marin and Harris.
The actual sale went very smoothly. They had the units we wanted in stock and scheduled delivery and installation the following week.
Delivery was when things went horribly sideways. We live in Mill Valley. Mill Valley has hills and homes scattered all over said hills. Access to homes isn’t always easy. Martin and Harris did not plan for this at all.
They started off by removing the units from their boxes at their warehouse. Due to the irregular shape of the units, this made it almost impossible to secure them on an appliance dolly.
To make matters worse, they sent two gentlemen to install the unit, one of whom could clearly not handle dealing with 250 pound washing machine.
As a result, they dropped the washing machine off the appliance dolly and down a couple of stairs. The larger of the two delivery guys informed us that it was their fault and that he would need someone stronger to help him bring the unit down to the house.
Later that day we received a call from Martin and Harris informing us that they were cancelling our order and wouldn’t ever deliver to our house. The impression was that we were somehow at fault.
As an aside, we’ve had appliances and furniture delivered to our home by many sources without issue. However, the delivery companies always sent adequate staff to do the job.
We purchased the washer and dryer from another source and had them moved by professionals at Baker Moving and Storage.
Sorry Martin and Harris, epic fail. I’ll go elsewhere.
