Ken Steele DVM

Ken is skilled and thoughtful. He has a very careful touch with animals. My dog is sensitive and he has cared for her for the last 3 years, including every check up and her surgery (spaying). He’s practical, approachable, and easy to talk with.
I highly recommend Ken; you can’t go wrong with him.

We lived in Marin for over 20 years and our 8 cats and dog were all cared for by Dr. Steele. One of our regrets about retiring and moving away was that we were losing a wonderful, caring vet with a great bedside manner. His concern for his patients was palpable, and he never failed to caution us when something we were considering was bad for our animals. He’s had to handle everything from sick animals, to poisoning (the gardener sprayed insecticide in our yard without telling us), to routine vaccinations to the trauma of euthanasia. He was thoughtful, considerate, efficient and kind to us and our pets on every occasion.

I am a new resident of Marin county and needed assistance with my dog asap. He gave me some advice on a late Friday night and he saw us on Saturday. He was professional, sincere, and provided the tools for us to be proactive about the lifestyle of our old little lady.
His prices are fair, he has a fully functioning office, yet he can travel to your house for visits (additional fee) and he sincerely cares about the well being of your additional family member.
I am grateful to have found him.
He also does teeth cleaning on dogs (varies on temperament of dogs and condition of teeth) at an amazingly great price.

I highly recommend Dr. Steele. I had brought home a very sick cat from a pet hospital on Friday night, hoping to give her a few good final days at home. But she was much sicker on Saturday morning. I had heard about vets who make house calls, and was determined to find one to come and euthanize my cat. I wanted to spare her any final stress of putting her in her carrier and returning her to the pet hospital. It was the last thing I could do for her.
Dr. Steele was the first of several kind vets who returned my call. He could not have been nicer or gentler to either me or my cat. My cat had the best end of life experience possible. Dr. Steele was very professional and competent, but also very friendly and compassionate, interested in whether I was going to be ok. I really appreciate his concern for me as well as for my beloved cat at this very sad and difficult time.

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Steele. He is a wonderful vet. First of all, he is totally professional. . on time, he’s flexible…and his price is very reasonble for a mobile vet. BUT, he’s more. He has taken care of my cats for the last 11 years. . and I’ve had very sick Kitties, very ‘difficult’ kitties. . I totally recommend him.

Dr. Steele is flexible, patient and friendly. He likes my cats and they like him. He takes his time getting to know them, and talking me through whatever their issues are. I’ve had two very sick cats in the past and he was incredibly understanding and caring in helping me make decisions about their care, and finally, in helping me euthanize them. Even though he has a busy practice, I never feel as though he’s rushing me or rushing the animals. He’s knowledgeable, practical, and really seems to enjoy my cats as much as I do.

I have had to call on Dr Steele’s services for 2 of my beloved cats-​one had to be euthanized 2 years ago and 1 just a few weeks ago. I’ve had both of them at least 15 years. I was not impressed with Dr Steele the first time as I thought he kind of acted like this was all «old hat» to him, though both I and my son were blubbering messes.
But this last time he was great. Very kind and empathetic, and answered all our questions, however ridiculous or irrelevant.
He’s a good guy in my book and I’ll call him again, though hopefully not for euthinasia!

I’ve always had cats and I love the fact that Dr. Steele does house visits. It says a lot that he understands the stress that a trip to the vet can cause a cat. I also personally like Dr. Steele. He seems honest and straight-​forward.
I’m only giving him two stars because he was a cavalier when I called him to report that my cat was eating less, vomiting, and losing weight. He told me that this is natural because in the wild they eat a mouse then they barf up the bones. I called another vet for a second opinion and they said that these symptoms often indicate something severe and I should bring her in right away. Sure enough, she had cancer.
Also, my cats didn’t like him and he seemed to lack any natural rapport with them. One time he needed to take blood from a cat and he tried to put this «gimp» like mask over her head. It completely traumatized her and he had to anesthetize her to get blood. That had never been necessary before or after.

Dr. Ken Steele is a knowledgeable vet, and the invaluable service of doing local housecalls cannot be overlooked. However, I was disappointed with his personal touch or lack thereof. Both his nurse and him showed a lack of genuine bedside manner. If you care for your pets as family, you may want to try another local vet who handles their patients with a little more TLC.

We had such a great experience with Dr. Steele. He came to our home, was on time, was professional and the cats actually liked him. His card says, «Quality care for your pets in the comfort of THEIR home,» and he means it. He is gentle, he obviously likes animals and wants them to be happy. The visit was about an hour, and he had all the meds that our cats needed with him. Having him come to our cats is a great option because our cats are from Pacific Siamese Rescue and have only been with us 2 months. They are finally settled in, and we did not want to have to take them anywhere. He came to us and the cats were not even phased after the fact. He is very straight forward about what he can and cannot do in your home (he told us that is additional tests needed to be done, we would have to take the cats to the facility). He is also conservative in his prognosis, which is a total relief. All of the vet experiences I have had in the past have been in their office, and suddenly they are suggesting that we get $ 500 worth of tests, surgery, etc for a cat that you think is pretty healthy going in. It can be a bit disconcerting. I think that Dr. Steele is honest simply because he is not trying to pay off the cost of a fully– loaded practice with staff and equipment (not to mention rent). We felt that he was reasonable in what we can expect for our kitties, which made it a great experience. He is available Mon to Fri by appointment (he drives into SF from Marin). He is fantastic, and I am so glad that we found him!
