History

Established in 1999.

I returned to college to study chiropractic after a seven year career in the textiles industry because I wanted to serve people directly in a profession where the opportunities to learn never ended. I’m pleased to say that these goals are realized on a daily basis through my practice.

Over the years I’ve been privilaged to help many people overcome very serious health issues. In 2009, after many post-​graduate hours of study, I became this area’s only Certified SOT Practitioner. SOT is an advanced chiropractic technique that blends chiropractic adjusting and osteopathic-​type cranial work. The techinique is much gentler than many other styles of chiropractic and, in my experience, allows the body to heal with fewer treatments over a shorter period of time than I have seen recommended by doctors practicing other techniques.

Graduate of University of Michigan, Northwestern College of Chiropractic. Certified SOT Practitioner. My mission is to improve your quality of life through better health.

My interest in chiropractic was born out of multiple sports injuries, car accidents and concussions, all of which I’d still be suffering from, were it not for chiropractic. I owe a great gift of gratitude to chiropactic. For every injury I’ve had I’ve found a technique to help me heal and I’ve mastered those to help you heal.

My greatest satifaction is seeing the people I treat come into a fuller expression of who they really are as their health and quality of life improves. It’s really fun when people forget why they originally came in and just see me from time to time for overall well being.

Dr. Smith is the ONLY Chiropractor to EVER open up my upper back. No other Chiropractor or Massage Therapist or for that matter Alexander Technique teacher has ever done what he has. I never thought I would stand this tall and feel this free. He is Excellent!

I have been to dozens of chiropractors over my lifetime, and moved on to osteopathy. Then I found Jonathan Smith, who combines the best of both worlds. He is licensed as a chiropractor and trained as an osteopath. He spends substantial time with people so the body can move at its own pace. I got lasting results form just a few sessions.
The office complex is a little run down and Terra Linda is out of my usual orbit, but the quality of care makes it worth the drive. And it’s easier to relax in an environment where the doc brings his dog to work.

I went to Dr. Smith recently for neck pain/​stiffness and a general evaluation for back issues. I was very pleased with Dr. Smith’s level of professionalism and even more pleased with my results. My neck felt better with a few adjustments and I feel a general sense of better health overall.
I was also happy with Dr. Smith’s cranial work. It is quite unique and very relaxing. I felt very good afterwards.
I will be seeing Dr. Smith for all my chiropractic care in the future to keep my back and neck healthy!

When I came to Dr. Smith for the first time, I was in severe pain. I brought the result of my MRI Spine Lumber which was not good at all. I was devastated. He examined me thoroughly and ensured me that I would be OK. but it would take some time. I started to see him on a daily basis; then every other day and I am now on a once –monthly maintenance schedule. Needless to say that I feel good.
Dr. Smith gives me personalized care and explains every question I ask him. He is very patient, caring, highly knowledgeable and professional.
I greatly appreciate him as a specialist and as a great person.
I would recommend him to anyone who has back/​neck issues.

I am now on a once-​monthly maintenance appointment with Dr. Smith and could not be happier, or healthier. Balance Chiropractic is a great practice where Dr. Smith offers personalized care and treats his patients personally instead of handing off their care to inexperienced chiropractors who don’t know their issues. Dr. Smith is officially my hero! I first came across his practice on Groupon. I was in pretty rough shape, had one of those pinched nerve situations where you can barely get in a full breath. He fit me in last minute and he was incredibly thorough. After a couple treatments I was tip top again and ready to crash my dirt bike a few more times LOL. He had originally given me a suggested treatment plan which I was reluctant to fully follow because although I understand the importance of frequent visits to align years of spinal destruction it’s hard to commit to that amount of time and money. I had decided I would just go to see him in times of desperation for financial reasons. Yesterday I woke up at 4am in the most excruciating pain of my life. I have quite the threshold for pain but this was next level torture. I was waking my Husband up telling him I wanted to go to the hospital. I should add I compressed a disk a couple years back in a mx crash so I was thinking something with that had gone VERY wrong. Luckily my Husband talked me into waiting it out and trying to get into Dr. Smith for an emergency appointment. When I walked into his office I could barely walk, could not comfortably sit, and god forbid even considering bending in any direction. He took his time, pin pointed exactly what the problem was and to my amazement by the time I got into bed last night I was a million times better. Today I went in for a follow up but I’m already 99% back to normal. I truly thought I was going to be out of commission for at least a couple weeks. I’ve seen other chiropractors frequently in the past and I will tell you from my experience this guy really knows his stuff. I would recommend him to anyone whatever your neck/​back/​headache issue may be.

I went to Dr. Smith for a single adjustment the a result of a Groupon, so I can’t speak to the effects of long-​term treatment, but for my single adjustment, I got the relief I was looking for. I greatly appreciated his attentiveness, presence, and most of all, the time and consideration he put into analyzing the results of my initial exam. He clearly has a lot of experience and puts a lot of thought into the adjustments that he makes. I have been to a good handful of chiropractors and none of them have put the amount of thought into my symptoms as Dr. Smith has. In addition, upon further discussing the symptoms after my initial consultation, he was able to understand how they all fit together and when he was curious as to the possible root of the issue, he was able to do simple interactive tests that ruled out certain possibilities to help narrow it down. By the time we did the adjustment, I felt confident that he was taking a very well educated and well-​thought-​out approach. In addition, I understood what he was doing and why because he was able and willing to explain it to me in laymen’s terms. I felt so much more like I was a part of my healing process as opposed to handing it all over to him. He even e-​mailed me two days later because he had forgotten to show me an exercise to help release tension in a particular area, which shows how much he is invensted in his patient’s health and healing. His rates are good and he is well worth it! There is no question that I will go to him the next time I need adjustments. Thanks Dr. Smith!

Dr. Smith is amazing! He really takes time to listen to your concerns and will come up with a great treatment plan. After a couple months of treatments, I only have some minor areas that need work. Overall, I am much more even, my range of motion and flexibility has improved, and my back/​neck feel great.
Also, Dr. Smith is a TMJ specialist. I recommended a friend to him to help with her TMJ and she’s on her way to recovery. My jaw no longer clicks after his treatment as well!

I speak from my own experience, and that of many others I know, that Dr. Smith is really a Chiropractor you can trust. I lived with constant neck pain from the age of 10. Every day some part of my upper back or my neck or my arms would hurt. I had seen a couple of Orthopedists and was under the impression that it was just my cross to bare in life. The pain was getting worse and started spreading to my low back and leg this past year. I decided it was time to try Chiropractic Therapy. It worked!
I am now pain free. And would highly recommend Dr. Smith. He also does a very good job of creating a treatment plan for you. And after awhile you should not have to go as frequently.

So many chiropractors, so little time. It is a blessing to find one that works for you.
And what works for me, or should I say, who works for me, is Doctor Jonathan! Why? For me it is his attention to CranioSacral Therapy and SOT because of my post cranial surgery, many years ago. Some of my chronic conditions include ear ringing and sinus congestion which react favorably to Dr. Smith’s techniques.

Dr. Smith is a great chiropractor. He has helped me gain a new level of health. The initial screen was very thorough and he accurately identified my problem areas and created a treatment plan. He also understood at an intuitive level that less is more for a person like me… the treatments were always gentle, yet the cumulative effect has been very significant. I highly recommend Dr. Smith.

I have worked with many different chiropractors after a shoulder injury years ago. It was always for emergency help about once a year. Then I met Dr. Smith and discovered a way of preventing the emergency visits. I have used his services on and off for over a year and I’m amazed at his attention to detail and care that lasts long term, not just for the day. I’d never worked with a chiro that did a full body adjustment and even specialized in cranial work to help clear headaches too. I defintely recommend his magic touch to anyone.

Super talented chiropractor who took his time and really listened to the tale of my back and neck woe, and he continued to listen as I got better and tinkered with different adjustment techniques accordingly. I transferred over to Dr. Smith from a busy chiropractor nearby. My experience with the previous chiropractor was that he was so successful and busy that he was losing his focus on the patient. The last few times I went to him, I ended up hurting more when I left than when I walked in.
Dr. Smith is the antithesis of the other guy. He is down to earth and very focused on the patient. He takes his time and approaches chiropractic from a different perspective. He is not a «twist and crunch» kind of guy. He is gentle and thorough and I have had a great experience with him. I recommend him highly!

I like how he changes in the different things he does. When I first went to him he tried a couple of things. By and large, I’d give my last visit to him a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. I had an issue that I needed to see him. I like his approach. He’s always solved the problems that I’ve gone to him for. I also go to him somtimes for maintenance. It is a nice office with a zen type rock garden.
