Felipe is an awesome mechanic! I’ve taken my old VW Golf to him until I had to get rid of it and now my replacement VW Jetta. He is trustworthy and will only let you know when you need something replaced right away or if it can wait. His nephew is also great and has the same ethics.
We love this place so much that we still use them even now that we have moved away from Marin.

This is the best mechanic shop ever! Felipe and Jorge are honest, skillful, caring and efficient. They were able to fix my car and it runs beautifully. The previous mechanic had absolutely ruined my car and I didn’t know what to do, but then it was suggested that I try G & F. I’ll never take my car anywhere else! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Honest mechanics are hard to come by, having spent 3 years on the road and seeing mechanics in more states than most people have visited, I am very excited to have found a good mechanic in the bay area.
The service is fast, thorough, efficient, and affordable. What more could you want? Oh yes, a clean bathroom. In a mechanic’s garage? Yeah right, right? Believe it or not, G&F has the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen at a mechanic or any gas station.
It may seem irrelevant, but if they even take care of their bathroom so well, I know my car is in very good hands!

Last summer, when my husband and I were new to the area, we were about to make a drive down to Los Angeles (in July) when my air conditioning went completely out. No air, no nothing. At the dentist, a friendly receptionist I was telling my issue to called her tire place and asked if they knew anyone I could take my car to for that issue and they recommended Felipe at G&F Auto. Within a day, my AC was completely fixed and for a very reasonable, fair price.
Over the last two years my husband and I have taken our cars here for random small issues and they have always been wonderful and helpful.
This is also where I take my oil to be changed to avoid Jiffy Lube!

Formerly located in Tamalpais Valley for many years, Felipe has opened a new shop in San Rafael with his nephew. I got separate rave reviews of this now vanished spot from independent sources before I heard Felipe had reopened in San Rafael.
Finding a mechanic around SF is a very difficult task and I count myself extremely lucky to have found G & F Automotive.
I have found this family owned shop to be reasonably priced but most of all honest. Repairs are recommended only where needed and the problems are explained clearly in advance.
