Best Buy Transmissions

Our ’09 Honda Fit suddenly had clunky shifting, check engine light on and flashing D. Local mechanic checked the code, said it was transmission solenoid, and noticed rodent damage to unrelated wiring under the hood. He could not work on transmissions, but had no recommendations.
I checked Unilocal and saw that Eric has excellent reviews. The are well deserved. I spoke to him by phone and he suggested I contact my insurance company. Indeed, rodent damage was covered by comprehensive. I dropped the car off, adjuster came and agreed to an estimate with Eric who even convinced him that the transmission fluid should be changed, so he covered that too. Eric repaired the wiring harness and it was ready the next day. Great service all around, and Eric saved me hundreds with the insurance suggestion.

The clutch on my Miata was soft and the shifter kept slipping out of third gear. The Mazda dealership told me that I needed a new clutch and would not attempt the gear fix that I found on the internet. Eric diagnosed the soft clutch as a leaky master cylinder and was able to fix the gear slippage. I drove away from Best Buy Transmissions in my Miata – it felt like a magic carpet ride. Eric is a master mechanic with a great attitude!

After we had a mechanic not fix our transmission we were luckily referred to Best Buy. Eric fixed our transmission as well as while in there found another issue that he only charged us to replace that part. There are few places left like Best Buy. We will refer anyone we can to Best Buy and only take any of our cars here.

Fantastic! After getting a $ 3500 transmission replacement estimate from my trusted mechanic of 20 years, I took my 1995 Toyota Camry to Best Buy Transmissions because of the Unilocal recommendations. Eric, bless his heart and my pocketbook, thought & thought & suggested a special fluid change that my mechanic had already done without success. Eric wanted to repeat it to make sure everything was cleaned out thoroughly. He said it was a long shot but I forked over $ 190 total. And it worked! No luck here. Just one smart guy who didn’t give up.

I was one of the lucky guys that got a cute glowing wrench light on my dashboard of my 2008 Ford Escape, which meant a transmission issue. Took it to my normal service guy he said it was error code P0732 and I had to take my car to a transmission shop. As always, I doublecheck any referrals with Unilocal,and my normal service guy recommended a two star shop. So I did my own search and found Eric at Best Buy transmission, and thank God! I actually had the car towed there and Eric was fine with getting it dropped off. After a free inspection of my transmission he gave me a call back and he offered me three options. Two options to replace the transmission at different pricing, and the third was him actually repairing my transmission. I took the cheaper repair option and saved myself $ 3,000. In short, Eric was professional from start to finish and is an honest guy that actually knows transmissions. Definitely will recommend Best Buy Transmissions to my friends!

Best Buy Transmissions is the kind of place that you find, share with friends and family, and keep in your address book for whenever you need them. Eric is a down-​to-​Earth, hands-​on owner and is both skilled and not looking to drain your wallet. He tells is like it is, gives you options, and makes recommendations not based on what is going to net him the most money, rather what is going to work for you.
We brought our 10-​year old SUV here, and received a quote to open up the transmission that was a FIFTH of what the dealers wanted. We did luck out a bit in terms of what was wrong, but it did need a repair. Eric called with the findings, explained everything, we made a decision on the phone, he had the part delivered same-​day, and he had the car out the door that afternoon:

Got my oil leak diagnosed. Saved me tons as others thought it would be a complete rebuild. Eric thought it was Not at the rear main seal & advised I seek a mechanic for leaks higher up. Honest helpful assessment & showed me what he was looking at, took time to help me same day as soon as I brought it in.

I don’t know what else to add… I had the same experience as all the other reviewers. Competent and honest shop. Eric was able to fix the transmission problem. He did not try to push the more expensive transmission replacement when the less expensive fix was enough for the time being. Great place.

Our Mercedes which has 200k miles was having problems. It was slipping out of first gear. Another mechanic, who was doing the brakes, told us it needed a new transmission, but we wanted to confirm. We found this shop, Best Buy Transmission, on Unilocal and took our car there to see if it might need a new transmission. Eric, the owner, said he would check it out. He discovered it was a small fix, $ 180, that made it run like new. Eric is a great, honest mechanic in Marin. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. Thanks Eric and Best Buy!!!

Eric was very helpful and honest. Test drove my truck and reassured me that all was working properly. This following another franchises «double A mco» recommendation that I needed to rebuild my transmission to the tune of. $ 3k. Should I ever need a transmission service I’ll check with them first. Honest and forthright.

Spent $ 1800 with a mechanic who was unable to solve my drivetrain vibration and who ended up steering me to Eric at Best Buy.
Wish I had started here! Eric is a straight shooter, good guy, and perceptive mechanic who knew exactly what my car needed just from my description of the symptoms, and quoted a reasonable price for the fix, something like $ 200.
The car responded to his fix just as he had said. He got to work on it literally as soon as I brought it in, fixed the problem while I ate lunch (chinese), charged what he said, and *voila*. Months since then, no more problems.
Gets all five stars from me.

This shop has been around forever. Nice honest shop. I’ve had 2 different International Harvester 727s rebuilt here with great results and satisfaction. They even did a TF2 shift kit on one of those trannys at my request. My high mileage retired 98 chp crown vic is approaching 250k on the original tranny and with Eric’s help with preventive maintenance (fluid/​filter) I feel confident that it will go 300k or more. My 99 k1500 suburban had common transfer case issues at 144k. This shop made it right again at a great price with parts and repair that prevent the common catastrophic failure these trucks tcases are prone to suffering. These guys are great troubleshooters and go way above and beyond to keep your high mileage vehicle on the road.

It is hard to find a decent, honest mechanic anywhere in the Bay Area. When you finally find one, you stick with them forever. After getting a recommendation to go to these guys from our local mechanic (Judy’s Automotive) we brought our 2001 Subaru to Best Buy to get our bearings replaced. She said they would give us the best price and that they were the most honest. We checked with a few other places in town and these guys definitely had the best price. They stayed within the estimate and we had our car back right away. I don’t hope to have any transmission trouble anytime in the near future, but if I do I know where to go!
