UYE Whisky Tasting at Bistro Luneta 2010 Edition

Special thanks to Michael L’s 1975 Glenlivet 33 year old, Jim McEwan’s Celtic Heartland Whiskey (750ml). $ 300 a bottle!
If you want to impress your future father-​in-​law or brother-in-law…get them a bottle of Glenlivet (Aged 33 years). From the website:
Glenlivet 33 Tasting Note
Nose: Creamy and redolent of tropical fruits, berries, apples, sweet, toasty barley malt. Then big oak and hay, a touch of freshly baked pastries, some buttery toffee and heather too. An exceptional nose, like Glenlivet on overdrive!
Palate: Very fruity, a palate of rich, sweet cereals, fresh herbs and digestive biscuits. A little touch of menthol and then a big whack of vanilla and toffee.
Finish: Long and drying with oak and malt. Lots of spice too

As many of you know, I love bourbon and whisky (especially with cigars), so this was the IDEAL event!
Thanks for those who brought a bottle to share.
I tried round #1 and was nursing Michael L.‘s 33 year old single malt scotch whisky for the remainder of the night.
Highlights included pairing whisky with vanilla ice cream and making bananas foster with a blow torch inside the kitchen.

What an amazing event to meet and mingle w/​Yelpers, enjoy good Filipino fusion food and taste some good quality Whiskey, Scotch and Bourbon.
As Vy was saying the restaurant gave us a discount on the bill in which they didn’t have to, however, it is well appreciated.
Jon (the owner) and his staff joined us w/​some of the tastings and even gave us complimentary rib eye steak appetizers — Score!
We even had a special guest who joined our party… The Lovely… Silicon Valley Community Manager Connie C.

I did not get to go to last year’s version and have been hearing about that event ad infinitum. But sure was glad there was a second chance and as a non-​connoisseur I’m a believer now. Liking whiskies to wines; packaging are different (
), labels are different, each «vintage» is different, each region is different, pricing, etc. I was in my element, lol. The company helps too, and finally got to try Bistro Luneta’s Sizzling Pork Sisig (
)!
Oh, an annual event would be awesome, yeah! :D

I declare a success!!! A BIG thank you to Jon & Janet of Bistro Luneta for allowing the Unilocal Community, the SBC, and my friends take over the restaurant for the evening for some great food and whisky tasting! This also would not have been possible with the encouragement and support from an amazing host: Jakob H. You ROCK!!! I think we have something to look forward to again in 2011!!!

With 10 Whiskys and 3 Bourbons there was an interesting variety! Thanks to our generous participants for bringing the Brown Sugar for all of us to sample!!! I’ve come to some solid conclusions after tasting that many whiskies!
Super happy that our very own Unilocal SV Community Manager Connie C. came out to hang out too!!! Yay!

Awesome food, Awesome whisky, Awesome people!
It was wonderful meeting everyone! I’m still staggered by how great the whole experience was as well as the people who made it happen.
Thanks to everyone that went especially Jakob and James! I definitely look forward to next year.
