Modified Margaret

Super late post since I ordered a cake from Meg in April and now it’s December, but I wanted to make sure I give credit where credit is due. I had made several inquiries for a personalized birthday cake to local bakeries for my fiancé the week before his birthday, and Meg was the most responsive and friendly by far. The cake was a replica of a Jameson bottle with personalized writing including my fiancé’s name and birthday. Not only was the cake a huge hit based on aesthetics, it tasted delicious too! I would definitely go back to Meg for all my cake needs!

I needed a cake last minute for the other half’s birthday dinner and so I did what most sane women do — hop on Unilocal and hope someone could fill the order. In a pinch, Meg was able to conjure up a simple red velvet birthday cake. Considering timing, I expected to pick up the cake. On a review or two, I read Meg provides delivery services. I can’t remember the name but I swung by a local town bar as Meg was on site for another party and was unable to deliver the goods. We handled the transaction via PayPal. Simple, easy, and done.
What caught my attention about the reviews on here were that her baked goods weren’t measured with heavy-​handed sugar scoops. If there is one thing I’ve learned working with sick patients, it’s Diabetes is not something you want under your belt. Unfortunately, her cake was still too sweet for me and my party’s tastes. Let it be known, I make fairly awesome red velvet cupcakes from scratch and everyone agreed they preferred my concoction. I’m a one trick pony so I would gladly try working with Meg again on another cake flavor (and with adequate time) with a piece more intricate.
If I could, an overall rating of 3.5 stars. I’ll round up because we got it done with no hiccups.

I recently approached Meg for a baby shower cake for 25 people based on the recommendation of a friend. She was very patient while I explained how I wanted the cake to be — the design, flavors on the different layers, coloring etc. I emailed her photos of the various designs I had in mind and she clearly explained the cost for each of my requests. Although I initially felt the charges to be on the expensive side I was totally satisfied after seeing and tasting the cake. The cake looked exactly like the picture I’d mailed her and it tasted very delicious. It was a 2 layered cake — mango and dark chocolate. Both flavors were very tasty and had just the right amount of sweet. Everybody enjoyed it at the party and asked for her contact. Overall I feel she did an excellent job. I’d definitely recommend her to my friends.

I emailed several bakeries while I was shopping for my daughter’s 21^st birthday cake.
I chose Meg because she was extremely responsive, professional, super sweet, helped me through all the details, and even offered FREE delivery! Everyone knows how stressful the morning of your event can be and Meg made dealing with the cake worry free! In fact she personally delivered the cake and even brought a flower from her garden to spruce it up.
I’m thrilled to say our guest and most importantly, our daughter couldn’t get enough of the cake. Not only was is gorgeous and looked just like the picture I provided, it was amazingly moist, fluffy, and the frosting (our favorite part) was thick and absolutely delicious!
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Meg and Modified Margaret! Thanks again Meg, for the amazing job you did on our cake, you’re awesome!

2 cakes same weekend.
Barbie cake. We supplied the barbie, tons of cake. Excessive buttercream frosting, but surprisingly just the right amount of sweet.
Baby shower cake. I asked Meg to match a safari elephant theme of photos I sent to her from party city theme. We got a pink zebra stripes cake with an elephant on top. So cute and a ten inch, 5 layer cake, feed 30 people.
Great tasting cakes! Both were cookies and cream flavored. Moist, and tasty, just the right amount of sweetness to the cakes too.

Meg is great. We have order cookies, cakes and pies from her and they have all been great. She is easy to work with and everyone in our office loves her desserts!!!

We had Meg make our wedding cake and it was wonderful (simply delicious!) One of the things we were really looking forward to in the whole planning process was wedding cake tasting. After many different appointments with different bakeries, we were starting to get discouraged. Either the cakes were dry, nothing special or the frosting was just too sweet. We were so happy when we found Meg. The only other bakery we were considering already was already booked for two other weddings on the same day.
Meg has been a pleasure to work with from the very beginning: friendly, helpful and talented. She accommodated our crazy schedule and made three awesome mini-​cakes for us to sample. Our favorites were the hummingbird and red velvet cakes with the vanilla bean pastry cream and cream cheese frosting with coconut. The cakes were moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet.
We provided a simple sketch of what we had in mind with details later in the process. Meg made our two tier wedding cake, 12 dozen mini cupcakes (combination of red velvet, hummingbird, peanut butter Bön Bön and the chocolate salted caramel), and sugar cookies with the double happiness character piped in the front as our wedding favors. We wanted our guests to have the option of trying many different cakes on top of the desserts that our caterer made. The cake and cupcakes were definitely a hit. Made from scratch makes a big difference!

Meg and her cake pops were amazing. I contacted her fairly last minute, as I wanted to spruce up the candy table at my wedding, and I am so glad I did!!!
She was professional and responsive from the beginning and her cake pops were delicious. They were devoured instantly at the wedding, and several people commented on how good they were. She was a pleasure to work with, and the next time I can find an «excuse» to need some sweets, she will be my go to person!!!

I just worked with Meg for an office party — she was so pleasant and easy to work with, and she delivered the goods which made it super convenient. I had no idea what flavors to order or what design so she gave me a nice variety and they were a huge hit! I am looking forward to my next order and am already dreaming about the flavors!

I had Modified Margaret do my wedding cake and treat table. Meg was super nice, gave great advice and was a perfect vendor to work with. In addition to my beautiful wedding cake (which looked just like the picture I showed Meg), I ordered petit fours, frosted cookies, cake pops and Meyer lemon bar bites. The table was beautiful and perfectly decorated. I couldn’t be happier with how the treat table turned out. And it tasted soooo delicious. :) Thanks Meg!

I was referred to Meg by my mothers club. I ordered some cake pops for my daughter 9^th birthday party. (Vanilla and Red Velvet) They were such a big hit. Everyone loved them. I will definitely be using her for my future parties. Everything tasted so fresh! =0)

My son was turning 1 so I wanted to find someone who could bake his cake using less sugar and with more wholesome ingredients than the more traditional and even the more fancy bakeries tend to use. I found Modified Margaret on Unilocal and read all of her great reviews. I was very impressed after my first conversation with Meg. She was incredibly friendly, professional and willing to listen to my requests. I asked her to make a banana cake with whipped cream frosting, using less sugar than usual while still being delicious. She had no problem meeting my request.
Meg delivered the cake to our party location and she was just as friendly and sweet in person! And the cake… oh, where do I begin? It was beyond what I had desired. It was quite literally perfect in every way. The taste, texture, amount of sugar and the decoration was exactly as I asked. I myself probably ate a quarter of the cake and many of the guests went on and on about how delicious and wholesome the cake was. Many of the kids came up and wanted seconds of this wonderful cake, even though it was not sugared down like most of the cakes you eat at birthday parties.
I will definitely use Meg again for cakes and I’m excited to even try out her other specialty desserts and pies.

My friends hired Modified Margaret to cater my baby shower. I wrote her this thank you email and thought I’d share it.
Dear Modified Margaret,
you just catered my baby shower which my friends organized. I just wanted to say thank you so much. That was the greatest cake and desserts! Everybody loved them. I wish I was getting married in California because I would want you to do my cake. Red velvet is my favorite so my friends nailed it as per usual.
Anyway I just wanted to say great job and thank you. I hope your business is flourishing. I grabbed a bunch of cards from my friends because I do wedding photography as part of my photography business. If I can ever recommend you I certainly will. There is a little sliver of one of the «B“s left in my fridge. I am gonna have to go and eat it now.

I have ordered from Meg as well as enjoyed one of her artful Dessert Bars. Not only are the desserts unique in design, but each bite is wonderful. Modified Margaret is a happy blend of family favorites (or what you wish your family favorites had been) and unique creations all Meg’s own. Try Meg for the special treat.

Meg is definitely the Hostess with the Mostess! I have enjoyed many of her wonderful treats, including a spread for a Sunday brunch. The brunch included a fabulous lay-​out with warm pop-​doodles, 2 kinds of quiches, spinach salad and mini cheesecake bites. The brunch was fabulous and Meg definitely makes her clients feel wonderful! Thank you for the many treats and wonderful spreads!
Oh, and dont let me forget the MANY wonderful birthday cakes I have ordered, because Homemade is always better and the price is right!
