Frozen treats with your own choice of toppings that’s not as bad for you as Ice Cream. what’s not to like?! I’m slowly catching onto this Fro-​yo craze and I love the fact I can mix and match everything I like all in one cup.
The store itself looks a little shady from the outside but inside it’s ok — very Yellow! There’s a choice of 8 self serve taps with various toppings of fruit, cookies, candies and Mochi. Honestly I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to the toppings bar, I think I ended up with more toppings than Yogurt (only downside if you’re trying to keep it reasonably healthy).
The staff are friendly here too and it’s very reasonably priced. I think I paid around 40c per oz.
I feel they could do with a larger choice of flavours and agree the fruit could do with being chopped smaller though. Also one of the flavours I tried was very runny but overall it’s a good place to grab dessert.

I’m not an expert on frozen yogurt, but this was fun! They have 8 taps where you self-​serve whatever froyo you want. They don’t make you eat one kind — you get to choose as much as you want of the ones that you like. And you can sample them first. We sampled all of them and then made a mix of the ones we wanted. They charge by the ounce so you can portion control yourself if you’re on a budget.
Not only was getting the froyo fun, but then they had a topping bar to top it off (I had to say it!). I chose the mini Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. They were the smallest, most adorable Reeses I’ve ever seen! We’re talking smaller than the tip of my little finger! Smaller than a dime! They were downright cute and tasty. Paired with the mini M&Ms and a little sprinkle of coconut and my cup was perfect!
My favorite flavors were the original (kind of tart and flavorful) and the Whopper (which tasted just like the malted milk balls). And the portions were just the right size for me. Will I be back? Heck yeah!
TIP: There are a few tables inside by the windows that are great for people watching.

My bf got excited when he saw Happy Yogurt even after eating a big Japanese meal!
He was like yogurt makes me really happy lol, and so we had to go in so he can grab a cup of it.
Its really yellow and bright inside, and its all self served with the yogurt machines in the back. I really wanted to try the Whopper Chocolate flavor but sadly it was really watery. So the bf choose strawberry and plain tart then grab some toppings.

I go the frequent buyer card and happen to keep going back here whenever I am around the caltrain.
While this yogurt is nowhere close to Yumi Yogurt. I like the friendly guy behind the counter, I like the flexibility of self service, whcih also affects the price you pay at the end of serving yourself yogurt and the toppings. This place wasn’t THAAAT bad/​/​I thought with the reviews it wouldn’t be good. It isn’t my favorite because the yogurt wasn’t cold enough.
I like my Froyo to be frozen enough to feel like I’m eating something of substance. But not frozen enough to have to carve into in with a spoon.
The Froyo here was somewhere between melted and just right. Kind of like a concoction of froyo and a little too much water.

It may not «look like much» compared to some of the other shops in town, but the product is great and the staff is always «cool.» The atmosphere is usually peaceful and fun for the family — and the frequent «buyer» card is hard to avoid!
Beware, you may find it hard to stay away from this place.

Not too shabby. They had some good flavors like white chocolate macadamia, and cookies and cream which I prefer over the more tangy, usual frozen yogurt.
I like that you can serve yourself and put as much or as little as you like. The mochi bits and the fruit are absolutely tasty. Staff is not friendly but it’s fine. That’s why it’s self-​serve so that you don’t really have to interact with the staff.

There have been some harsh reviews written here, but I don’t think this place is that bad…
It’s an unoriginal but decent self-​serve froyo joint that offers standard flavors and toppings. I wish the fruits could be chopped into smaller bits, but other than that, I’m happy with this place. I’m a fan of self-​serve froyo, so it’s either Yogurtouille or Happy Yogurt when I’m craving dessert in downtown San Mateo. As a matter of fact, Yogurtouille tends to get a little overcrowded during its busy hours, whereas Happy Yogurt, as far as I know, doesn’t get that crazy so I’d choose to come here when I’m with the baby.
The service could use some improvement… Folks here are definitely not the friendliest.
SUM: Nothing is that memorable here, but it’s really «A-​OK».

The egg nog fro yo was good. Everything else was so-​so. I love how they had a sign that said, «Try all our flavors. Blueberry, Pomegranate, etc etc.» but they had none of those.
Fail.
They had a few measly flavors: egg nog, cappucino, strawberry, kiwi-​strawberry, original tart. I wish they had green tea and taro which are my favorite fro yo flavors. This place isn’t like Yogurtland where there was music blasting, Asian music videos on the tv screens, and colorful cups. It was quiet inside, boring, and not Asian at all. LOL. It was disappointing. 35 cents for an ounce. Oh and hear this, they didn’t even have heath bar as a topping.
Ultimate fail.

Ughhh people save your money! With so many other choices for fro-​yo in San Mateo this place is not worth it.
First of all their fro-​yo is so soft that it literally starts melting away before you can even finish paying for it.
Second their plain tart is sourrrrrr! I only eat plain tart and usually you cant’ go wrong with that flavor but they sure did here.
Last but not least, their fruits are plain disgusting. I know most fruits are not in season but come on now, you can’t serve stuff that is not edible right?
Happy Yogurt did not make me very happy today…

This review is written by a chocoholic. I’ve only tried their chocolate yogurt, and it is TASTY! Damn tasty and affordable too. With or without toppings, it’s very satisfying for the chocolate-​lover.

I almost didn’t go here because I thought it would suck from the scathing Unilocal reviews. If you like chocolate, maybe this place will make you as Happy as it made me.
Other flavors? I dunno — didn’t try ‘em. It’s all about the CHOCOLATE! Mmm…

Wow the other reviews are freakin harsh. Over this last weekend where the day was pretty damn hot, Happy just about had the best AC in the area. Top that off with a decent tart and peach yogurt, it actually made the weather more bearable. The place was pretty empty so the girl working was helpful enough. Seems like there’s a proliferation of yogurt joints in the area now.

How many froyo places can downtown SM maintain? I don’t know but with this economy I venture to guess this place will have a tough time. Its on the far edge of downtown and the froyo just isn’t very exciting. The froyo was too soft and plain tasting. Was it fat free? Give me fat! Give me flavor! Okay maybe I’m in the minority here.
Self serve which is what I like. Friendly service. 2.5 stars.

While waiting for my pedicure appointment today, I had some extra time to walk around and relax, and was so happy to see that downtown San Mateo added a frozen yogurt shop! As I walked in to this bright new place I sure wish it had been open when I lived a block away!
The flavors were decent: chocolate, NF vanilla, NF strawberry, and a couple of fruity flavors. The toppings were numerous, but did not include my odd favorites, Reese’s PB Cups and cherry pie filling. Oh well. I got the chocolate and vanilla with Almond Roca, cheesecake, and cookie dough for toppings. It’s all self-​serve.
.35 per ounce which is nice as I got just a small amount. This is Happy Yogurt but I was not happy. Overly soft frozen yogurt with very little flavor, and the toppings were equally blah. Were they stale? The service was fine. I won’t be back.

Why do people hate this place? It’s so clean and sunny. Some major points:

I really liked my original tart and loaded it with fresh blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and kiwi. I loved how they used fresh fruits instead of frozen fruits and other fillers. I’m mostly happy about the yogurt chips and fresh mochi. Yum!

We’ll it sure is bright in here with the sunny bright yellow and pastel blue walls.
There are so many froyo places in San Mateo it’s hard to choose one, so we opt to go for the new kid on the block. They have only been open for a month so far and they are still working out some kinks but it looks semi-​promising.
Items that stick out
—- $.35 per oz — not bad
—- not as many flavors as other places, I think they had a total of 6. no taro and pomengranate was their only non-​standard flavor (vanilla, cookies and cream, strawberry)
—- the original tart came out watery
—- at least the customer service was on point.
—- the toppings had lids which was cool but the selection was aiight. fruits were fresh. Lots of cereals but no cookie dough and cheesecake bits.
I’m not sure if I’ll be back. I felt like I was in a Disneyland ride with all the brightness and forced happiness going on. All they needed was the «It’s a small world» song in the background.

Where’s the love for Happy Yogurt?
I really really liked this place. Super clean, tons of flavors, and they had most toppings I’ve ever seen in a Fro-​Yo place: fresh fruit, candy, cereals, oats, etc. Service was nice and workers were eager to please.
Happily piled on plain tart, cap n crunch, fruity pebbles, kiwi, and blackberry. My two coworkers loved it too. Definitely be back. It’s a must for dessert if you ever have the buffet lunch at Gator’s across the street.

While walking around downtown San Mateo, I saw Happy Yogurt for the first time. It was dead inside except for one customer. However, I decided to try it out. The interior was definitely bright, so it definitely lives up to the ‘Happy’ in its name in that regard.
I was in a chocolate mood, but they only had non-​fat chocolate and the rest were fruit flavors. I didn’t want that flavor, so I got mango with mochi bits and one lychee. It was good, but nothing mind blowing. The texture wasn’t smooth and it was already melting.
Pluses: Cheap, large selection of toppings
Minuses: Yogurt melts too fast, no variety of yogurt flavors (too much fruit)
I’m not sure that I will come back again. I wasn’t «happy» when I finished my dessert, more like indifferent.

Another fro-​yo place in downtown San Mateo just opened up on March 8^th with a 50% discount. I was excited that this one is a little closer to me in distance and especially happy to hear about the 50% off.
It’s self serve and if you need to taste a bit before indulging you can get a sample cup. I got a combo of coffee, pomegranate and mango. Not your ideal mixture but it works. There were lots of great toppings including mochi balls and jelly.
Cost is only 35 cents an ounce.
The yogurt had a melted consistency which wasn’t exactly how I wanted it. I felt I had to hurry up and eat it before it turned into a melted drink.
During the grand opening they weren’t accepting credit cards, but I wasn’t sure if their machines were down because the «credit cards accepted sticker» was on the front window.
For a quick and cheap fro-​yo it’s aight but a quality shop is a few blocks away.
