Gotta give this place it’s props. All the years I lived in San Mateo and had a friend that grew up around the corner from this store and we always came here as teenagers to get soda and candy. But never did I ever try their sandwiches. I must say I’m impressed and also realized all the years I missed out on. I commute to the city and don’t have a lot of time to leave the desk to eat for lunch. I needed to pick something up before I went on the train at 10 am and I remembered some clients of mine who work down the street from the deli had picked up their lunches from there before. I called ahead(which was about 8 in the morning) to see if their deli was even open and the lady said yes(winning!!). I don’t know of too many delis that are serving at a start time of 7 am but I was definitely pleased to hear they did. I ordered my sandwich and it was ready by the time I got there. I’m a big Dutch crunch lover and the bread roll was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside(as it should be). Most places I won’t name have Dutch crunch rolls that feel like it’ll break your jaw when you bite into it, not this place. The meat was tender and flavorful and the veggies complimented the already perfect texture. I would definitely recommend this place if you like good old fashioned authentic deli style sandwiches!

There is not a lot of options around 9th Ave and Claremont in terms of lunch spots… especially for people with time constraints(30 minute lunch break). I enjoy their sandwiches– not fancy or too expensive and their choices of drinks and chips is pretty extensive. They also have a sandwich punch card– buy 9 and the 10th is free!

I love this little place. I work nearby and always get my sandwiches from here. The staff are super friendly too. But it can get pretty busy at lunch time, and people wait for a bit for a sandwich. The prices are very fair though. It’s a family run business and you can tell they are all very close. Doesn’t have a huge variety to choose from though, can kinda get a little boring at times. Great place overall

My hunt for a really good sandwich brings me to some odd locations! For price this place is a pretty good deal, quality wise it’s borderline average. I placed an order through livingsocial for pick up at 12:15 and when I got there at 12.10 is was already made for me. I ordered my usual Turkey on Wheat( ) The Roll was soft and tasty with plenty of Turkey but not the best quality and I suspect a cheap brand they buy at wholesale(like Costco) in bulk. The salad fillings were also on the sparse side. It was a decent size though and although I don’t eat particularly big portions half was enough to fill me up. As it’s a convenience /Liquor store they sell a wide variety of items including some Coffee and Doughnuts.

It’s a corner liquor store that sells just about everything. Get you Metro PCS phone or your 40. But, they have great chicken salad and excellent potato salad. Good enough for me. Chicken salad is made there with chicken that is hand pulled apart not that little chopped up stuff some deli’s make. Hardly ever a line and easy in and out. Just remember it is a liquor store too. Oh yeah, good beer selection also.

Take it for what it is, a corner store. I used to get food here before I could drive because it’s just two blocks from my parents’ house. The sandwiches are decent and they have a variety of other foods in the deli(I still haven’t tried the piroshkis). I was impressed when I went back this past June and the sandwich tasted exactly like it did in the late 90s! Dutch Crunch roll was fresh, tomatoes hand-cut, turkey sliced to order, mayo/mustard were thin and almost watery(i like it)! I won’t say they make the best sandwich in the land because they don’t cater to the big-fat-fancy-pestospread-loving-sandwich-snob crowd. But if you know what to expect from a corner store, they do a good job. P. S. Does anybody remember when it was called«Doyle’s Deli»? My mom still calls it that, but I know it’s been Golden 9th for a long time now. Just curious!

I wish this place stayed open longer but it’s your average mini convience store without the creepy feeling. Great tuna sandwich :-D

On my ever continuing quest for weird sodas, I stepped in to see what I could find. Nothing weird on the soda end but I found a metallic container of iced coffee called Caribou. Turns out it’s made by Coca Cola. Strange. Lots of convenience store items and booze and they also have a somewhat popular deli with the locals. Might have to come back to try the food. Service is a bit the slow side cause it seems like cashier also does money wiring to Mexico. Interesting side business.
