The facility itself is great for practicing with .22 caliber pistols or rifles on the small bore side. The on negative is that they are only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights. Also the range is run by volunteers and some are not sure of what is allowed on the large bore side. You may have to shoot your .22 on the large bore side since there are spots that are marked «reserved for members only». In fact one member uses two shooting stations. The large bore side is shot through windows while sitting. All in all not a bad place to sight your rifle for deer season. I shoot mainly at Los altos rod & gun since you can shoot center fire pistol and anything else during the week

I took my gun training class at this club about a month ago. The instructors were superb, and the range s overall a good one. Very highly recommended.

My first experience going to this shooting range was great, especially since I am new to shooting, great outdoor range to practice. Me and my boyfriend invited our friend and her boyfriend to come try it out, it was their first time shooting, we thought what better range to go to so we decided on coyote point. This time around our experience wasn’t great, the customer service we had was bad, to the point we couldn’t even enjoy our time shooting.
From the start the gentleman that was helping us out was rude, almost as if he was angry that we were there. All of the gentlemen that were working at the range kept hovering over us, didn’t give us a chance to enjoy our time and relax enough to set up our guns without having one of them come over. We did know what we were doing, given me and my boyfriend have been to shooting ranges before this one included and we weren’t treated like this our first time. Many other things, just an overall disappointment, after having such a bad experience I do not recommend this shooting rang.

Ladies, if you’re looking for a female friendly range, this is it! If you’re new to shooting you want to start off with a 22 pistol and practice, practice, practice. This is a great outdoor range to learn those skills and participate in a variety of shooting sports if you like sports. They have fun shooting competitions on some weekends. You have to bring your own pistol and ammo though. They are open to the public on Mon, Wed and Friday nights 7 pm to 10 pm.
If you want to learn, they have Basic Pistol classes for women if you want a more comfortable environment.

Came here on a Friday night and it was not too crowded. From reading the other posts I was getting ready for some problems with the people who worked there. I got very courteous and friendly service. This is my second time to a gun range and first time here. People here are good.
There are some rules that are for everyone’s safety. Don’t get upset if they yell a bit because it’s outdoors and also people just don’t listen. Andy was watching my side, .22 lr caliber, pistol or rifle. This is the left side. The right side is for centerfire rifles only. Andy was very helpful, friendly and I felt he made everyone feel very relaxed. I like this place.
This place is what it is. Read the reviews and their website. If you come here for what they said they don’t provide, don’t complain. It’s your fault for not being informed. Don’t come here with a centerfire handgun. I came here with a .22 lr handgun, so I was OK.
This place does lose one star because targets are only at 25, 50, and 100 yards. Being a new shooter, 25 yards for a pistol is not that easy. A 10 yard target would have been nice. You need to bring binoculars to see out that far, especially if you are shooting .22 lr’s. There were some serious target shooters and rifle shooters here. They were all shooting with scopes and had binoculars.
Costs is $ 10 for the night, and this includes one target. I had to buy a chamber flag for $ 2. You keep this so it’s a one time purchase, so no big deal. Shooting sessions are 15 minutes and then there is break for you to replace, remover or adjust your targets, or in my case, see how I well I shot.
Overall, this is a good place and I would come back. I feel this place is for more serious shooters or someone who is serious about guns and safety. I’m not sure how other ranges are, but the only other one I was at seemed to allow people to goof around a bit too much and there wasn’t much supervision.

No centerfire pistols?! No shotguns?! Wtf?! So I guess no home defense practice. Unless you use a 22. Or a rifle… and even when I shoot my rifle they don’t allow reloads. I make my own match ammo and you can’t «develop» your rounds. (Make small adjustments with your charge, projectile weights that kind of stuff) I understand that there is saftey issues but if the employees know there stuff (they act like they do) then it shouldn’t be a problem. Their club is exclusive and hard to get in. You have to jump through hoops get sponsers that kind of stuff and volunteer. (Work for free) and I can’t even fire half my arsenal here. Why would I pay for that. If your just a plinker and just wanna fire 22 LR then this place is perfect. But if you wanna play with the BIG BOYS, go somewhere else.

I decided to post after reading «J-​nine D.» review here.
First — I’m a long time shooter at Coyote Point, been going for years, have brought friends there and have recommended it as the best place around to shoot rifle.
Until last week. I had the exact same experience as «J-​nine D.» to the letter. The range Nazi at the sign in desk was unbelievable and unnecessarily rude. When I told him I planned to shoot AR-​15, same gun I’d been shooting there for years, he told me my rifle was ILLEGAL.
Even after in the first minute of the conversation I confirmed yes, it has the California legal bullet button. The conversation went on pretty much word for word as «J-​nine D.» stated above, with the jerk behind the desk chewing me out and say ILLEGAL again and again like a broken record. He kept me standing there for 15 minutes after I paid. Missed the next shooting session. For the first time in my life I had to hand over my rifle for «inspection», even though I pulled it out at the start of the interrogation and showed him the legal bullet button. Next, I had to turn over my mags for «inspection», after which this genius declared I had a M4, not ILLEGAL AR-​15. Um yeah, except the M4 has select fire, which I’m pretty sure isn’t legal.
So Coyote Point has a bad apple there, he’s rude, condescending and abrasive. A simple question does your rifle have California legal features would have settled the issue in 10 seconds. They need to get this guy, an Asian man in his 40’s, out of there before he causes a real problem.

nice place to practice your shooting. If you have a 22lr you can shoot prone, seated or standing. All good ways to learn how to shoot.

I have been to a total of 3 ranges and this is my LEAST favorite because of the VOLUNTEERS on a POWER TRIP. My experiences here will most likely be why I probably will only go here for a last resort.

1^st time going here the BF and I had a great experience. It was our first time, the Range Master answered our questions, and we were happy to have a rifle range so close to home.
2^nd time The Range Master chewed out my boyfriend about his chamber flag; it was the same exact one that we used the 1^st time we visited and upon telling him we used it before, this range master got worked up and raised his voice saying that it was unacceptable and if we kept back talking we’d get kicked out. We purchased a new flag for $ 2.00 no biggie. On one of the cease fires he brought it up again on passing our bench AFTER we had already corrected the issue. That same night, the range master had chewed out our friend on his first visit; he didn’t know a rule of the range and when he apologized that he didn’t know, the range master raised his voice saying that our friend was talking back. Our friend said he wasn’t talking back and told the ranger master that he didn’t have to be so rude when addressing the patrons but that was again considered back talk and he threatened to kick him out.
3^rd time WAS TONIGHT. It has been a few months since we went to Coyote. I was really looking forward to siting my new gun. We arrived around 7:30pm. The Range Master asked us what we planned on shooting, and the BF told him .22 pistol & AR-​15 and the Range Master’s eyes got big while he said «A REAL AR-​15?!» and my boyfriend replied «yes» and the Range Master repeated again «A REAL AR-​15» and my boyfriend nodded and said «yes» and then the Range Master said «they’re not allowed here.» We were a bit baffled because we used that gun here twice before. We explained that and he asked to see it. He then said «oh you have an M-​16. AR-15’s are military and not allowed here, so next time, when they ask you what you’re shooting, say you have a M-​16.» (FUNNY, B/​C THE BF TOLD ME LATER THAT M-​16 IS THE MILITARY VERSION OF A CIVILIAN AR-​15 AND I CHECKED ONLINE AND THE BF WAS RIGHT!) Later on that night, after using the .22 side, we checked in with the range master and asked to go to the higher caliber rifle side. Seeing as how we’ve been here before, we did as we had done before and sat down at a vacant bench. Apparently, THIS WAS WRONG. They had started assigning benches to people. One guy sat at the wrong bench that belonged to someone else, we sat at his bench, and one guy was just waiting for his correct bench. The 2^nd range master came over and asked what the problem was and he raises his voice AT ME «WHY DID YOU SIT AT THIS BENCH» and when the BF explained that we came here before and it wasn’t assigned seating before. He then continued to yell at the BF in front of EVERYONE saying «DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHY WE ASSIGN BENCHES? SOME KIDS SHOT UP THE SHERIFF’S SHED AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THEY CAN USE LAZERS TO FIND OUT WHICH BENCH SHOT INTO THE SHED.»
QUESTION, WHY THE F*** ARE YOU ONLY YELLING AT MY BF WHEN TWO OTHERS WERE CLEARLY IN THE WRONG SEAT? IS IT B/​C WE’RE YOUNG? B/​C WE HAD AN ASSAULT RIFLE? OR B/​C I WAS THE ONLY GIRL AT THE RANGE AND HE BEGAN BY YELLING AT ME BEFORE THE BF ANSWERED FOR ME?
After her finished his rant, the BF just said «ok» and the range master walked away.
I admit that some of the things that they are asking are legitimate requests, but there is a level of common decency or perhaps a lack of people skills that these people have. OK say «i’m sorry but the chamber flag isn’t acceptable, i’m not sure why they allowed it before, but you can’t use this» OR «We have assigned benches b/​c some kids shot the sheriff’s shed and we want to track who sits where.»
Honestly, there is no need to raise your voice or be rude especially when we’re complying with their requests.

Check in at the guard station to let them know you are going to the rifle range, it is no charge since you will be paying $ 10 for adult range fee later. Make a left after the guard station and then a right.
They open 6:50pm and promptly begin «range hot» at 7pm. Required are eye, ear, and chamber flag, available for extra fee $ 2 – 3 more not bad. They collect CA photo ID until you are finished, which is not unusual, but new to this range, just don’t forget to pick it up after you are done.
The tissue paper targets they have are terrible especially at low light. I could not see my holes even with my binocular help. I taped on my reactive targets that turn color and it was so much better. They only allow one target sticker at a time, so you can’t place 4 stickers at each corner of the target all at once.
They do not let you sight in at 50yrds was for handgun (special ammo only) and rimfire .22 only. I was lucky to have a friend to help spot and only took my 5 rds to zero a new scope.
I left really happy, surprisingly at 9pm Wed there was about a 5 – 6 person line. I guess more people owning guns and getting educated about safety is a very positive thing.

It’s a little small but I love this place. Perfect hours, too.
Bright lights, friendly staff, $ 10 to shoot.

Took my hunters safety course here at the point in the early 70’s. And here I am, 40 years later still going to this range to shoot.
I call this range the «seasons» range. Since it’s outdoors, your exposed to whatever Mom Nature wants you to have. Today was cold, overcast and dreary. Exactly the reason I’m glad I don’t live on the peninsula anymore.

First of all the good stuff…
The range is clean and generally well managed. Adults shoot for $ 10, juniors for $ 6, the entire night. They are open weeknights Mon, Wed & Fri from 7~10pm and the flood lights clearly illuminate the target. These all make it a practical place to shoot at after work and essentially the only place in the bay area you can do rifle work after hours. That this is also the cheapest place to shoot in the Bay Area certainly doesn’t hurt!
The range is divided into two sections. The left is for rim fire (22LR) only, whereas the right side is for major caliber rifle. They have targets, fastening clips, backing boards, eyes and ears protection if you don’t bring your own. The range is generally not full so it is possible to have two stalls to yourself on most occasions if you have setups that your rather not move around.
Now the bad…
You absolutely cannot shoot center fire handguns here. Whether they have something against handguns of the sheriff (which actually owns the range) does is irrelevant. The fact is that you can’t practice with your pistols here.
You also cannot shoot high capacity magazines here. Nevermind that you own them legally pre-​ban and have no intention of breaking any «no-​rapid fire» rule. If you own a pre-​ban AR or AK, you can shoot them if you are able to show your assault weapons registration (it is the only range in the Bay Area that asks), but only if you have a 10 or 5 round mag. This applies even if you are a Law Enforcement Officer or anyone currently allowed to beat California’s 10 round magazine limits.
They don’t sell ammo, so if you don’t bring your own or run out, you are done for the night. They don’t really like hand loads and won’t allow you to reload on the bench. So if you are a Bench rest shooter planning on doing some load development, go somewhere else.
There is no close in target placements allowed. So if you have a new rifle and are trying to zero in the sights on scope, go somewhere else. You won’t be very productive in your adjustments when you can’t get a hole on paper all night on a 100 yard target.
Finally, this is a range run by «club members» who are obligated to perform one or two duties a night. This is not a business with a profit motive and it shows with some «volunteers». They generally don’t care to please you and some can make you feel like you owe them a favor for being allowed the venue and opportunity to shoot there. This is also a range most choke full of unnecessary «no’s» with regards to what you can shoot that has nothing to do with safety or the practicalities of the facility. If you are easily upset by people and places who don’t seem to want your business, go to a commercial shooting range. Too bad none of the center fire rifle permitting places are open late.

So this was only my second time to a shooting range so consider this review from that perspective.
Before I went with my bf’s friends to some place in SoCal that had grounds and different distance shooting options. This place does not have that. It has two sides and is an indoor/​outdoor range. Meaning you are stationary and sit unde a covered porch-​like structure and have one distance to shoot depending on the side you are on. One side is for lowder guns the other more for mainstream target practice.
I never did see a place to practice with a handgum though and I plan to purchase one very soon.
My dad brought me and we were going to christen his new shotgun… to our disappointment San Mateo County Sheriff said «no more» on shotguns at the range… boo
Apparently this is where the San Mateo law enforcement come for target practice I believ as well.
My Nana and I were the only women there and there was a kid about 12 years old. This hobby being a man saturated one could have very easily meant the staff would be rude to me or treat me like I am an idiot… but they didn’t. They were friendly and respectful.

I was very pleased with the NRA First Step Pistol class I took. Informative and professional. By the end felt comfortable with a handgun. Mike was great. Good balance of classroom and shooting at the range. I would recommend this group.

The hours say from 7 – 10 but that’s only if it’s populated enough for the workers to stay there. I’ve shot here before and got to shoot till closing. But last night we arrived at 9 and they said there weren’t enough people on the range so they wouldn’t let us in. I think it was because the range personnel just wanted to go home. They should just change they’re hours from 7 – 9 and say the 9 – 10 hour is for them to clean up and go home.

Fun place to shoot for starters. They have a 100 yard range and allow FMJs. Great prices ($ 10). If you tell the ranger at the gate you are going to the range, you get in for free. Great local spot and staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Hidden among the trees at Coyote Point is this small rifle and pistol range. It’s only open evening hours, 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and if you shoot during the colder months the place is pretty dark. I found that shooting at 100 yards in poor artificial lighting presents some unique challenges.
The 100 yard line only has benches, so no off-​hand or prone shooting allowed. The 50 yard line (which is only used for .22LR pistols or rifles) can do prone or off-​hand. They even provide padded mats to lay on.
On the centerfire side of the range (100 yards) they use long plastic flappy things on the back and sides of the shooting bench area. This presumably is to muffle the noise but what it also does is not allow proper ventilation.
The range is run by the sheriff’s dept so if you have an Off List rifle, or a registered pre-​ban, get ready for some scrutiny (bring registration paper).
I hear they have very cheap classes for new shooters and they host smallbore competitions.
Very cool to have a place to shoot on the peninsula that goes out to 100 yards. Expect to wait for a bench during the hunting season because of all the once-​a-​year shooters coming to sight in their rifles.
