Chrystle Cu, DDS

We found this office through Unilocal because of the high rating but they misrepresented that they are in-​network. My husband and I separately each asked when making an appointment whether they are in-​network so we don’t pay extra for cleanings. We were both told that they are in-​network. Had we known, we wouldn’t have switched to this office last year. I just received a bill from them to pay an extra $ 70 for a regular cleaning. Very disappointed that they misinformed us. They need to educate their staff who answer questions about coverage.

Dr. Cu and her staff are outstanding. My husband and I recently moved to the area and based on Unilocal reviews, we visited her office for a baseline screening/​xrays and a cleaning. From the initial greeting from the receptionist, to the dental assistants and hygienist, to Dr. Cu herself, both of our appointments were professional, comfortable, efficient, on-​time and friendly. Not only was everyone nice, but we both felt we were in extremely capable (and gentle) hands.
Side note — I had my 10-​week old baby with me, and he (of course) began to cry as soon as my appointment started. One of the staff immediately swept into the room, asking if I needed help (she had a childcare background!) — either to rock the stroller or hold the baby — which I immediately accepted. It was music to the ears of an over-​tired-​brand-​new-​mom who just wanted a teeth cleaning — and I’ve never felt so at ease throughout an appointment.
I’ve since recommended Dr. Cu’s practice to several friends.

I scheduled an appointment here with Cu cause she had the best reviews. When I showed up for my appointment they had switched me to a different dentist. Because I am self pay I asked them upfront to tell me what the costs of a number of average procedures were; they gave me a list that seemed reasonable. When I checked out it was not at all consistent with the pricing we discussed. When I asked for explanation they said the prices they had quoted were per quadrant (for ¼ of your mouth) and hence the final bill was 4x.
I don’t respect business that aren’t upfront when directly asked or give full disclosure.

I have been trying to find a stable and easygoing dentist for a few years now. Now that I moved back home from college, I decided that I need to see a dentist ASAP. I hate going to the dentist because of my past traumatic events.
Going into the dental office, I was nervous. However, Dr. Cu and her staff made me feel very welcomed. She asked me questions and showed concerned. She genuinely wanted to help me fix my problems and make love my smile.
During my cavity filling, Dr. Cu told me step by step what her next plan will be so that I was aware of the situation. She is very gentle and caring.

Came here because of the positive Unilocal reviews yet I don’t understand where all the positive reviews came from.
The office is very small and narrow really not what I expected; feels cramped and kind of gloomy. The receptionist was not really friendly like I thought she’d be which made me feel uncomfortable. In addition, they make you write down your credit card number in case the insurance does not pay them within 60 days they will use your credit card to charge you for visit and procedures. I have not seen an office do that before. Honestly, I didn’t get a good vibe from this place wanted to walk out but stayed.
In addition, the exam room is quite small as well; not really private and only divided by a thin wall which allows the conversation between you and the dentist attainable by the patient next door and allows them to hear everything. I literally heard everything the patient next door to me was saying. Felt strange having the patient next door hear me discuss everything about my teeth as well so I tried to kind of whisper and lower my voice.
Secondly, I went in for pain on one tooth but they took a complete mouth full of xrays which the overload of pictures and made the roof of my mouth hurt and intensified the tooth pain I already had. It seemed like an outdated X-​ray tooth machine compared to the other office I’ve been to about a year ago but I thought I try somewhere new. Wow, big mistake.
Finally, after a full month of xrays and feeling kind of dazed out from all the pictures taken; I expected a complete exam and discussion about each tooth but did not get one! The dentist was nice but that did not make-​up for the other imperfections and lack of examination on each tooth.
Overall, I’m disappointed and don’t think I’ll return but instead will find a place where the first person you see, the receptionist welcomes you and where they don’t make you write down your credit card number in case insurance doesn’t pay within 60 days and where I can at least look out a window and have some privacy as well.

So great for being there the first time. These ladies are very thorough! I came there cause I chipped a good chunk of my back tooth and I panicked so I made an appointment there and when I got there, I ended up getting a huge thorough checkup and Dr Cu found a lot of things I need work on. I appreciate all of the ladies for their care and concern and next month I will be getting a deep clean and filling work.

I have been going to Chrystle for a few years now. Although I have since moved to San Jose, I still happily make the trek up to San Mateo to see Chrystle.
Chrystle simply has every trait you look for in a dentist. She is friendly, thorough, gentle, communicates well, and of course does great work. She does not stack appointments on top of each other, either. This means you will rarely wait more than a few minutes for your appointment, yet you will never feel rushed during your appointment either. Everyone in the office is super friendly as well.
Who would have thought going to the dentist could be a pleasurable experience?

Recently I have started going to this dental office and it’s great! The staff is so nice from Alma the receptionist to Dr. Gill, my dentist, and Stephanie her assistant. Dr. Gill is very knowledgable and understanding and will not push anything on you. Dr. Gill and Stephanie are a great team and extremely efficient with their work. I highly recommend going to see them, it’s a comfortable setting and you will be in good hands. :)

I had two great dentists at Family Dental. Unfortunately that practice seems to be a jumping off point for great dentists to start their own practice or move on.
I wanted to find a dentist near work and found Dr. Cu on Unilocal.
Dr. Cu is fantastic! Very thorough and very fast. She even presented a list of flavors for polishing after cleaning — how cool is that? Her assistant Ashley was great too. She narrowed down a discrepancy on my insurance saving me time to resolve the issue with Delta.
To top it off, I got a greeting card welcoming me to the practice. Great client support and service!

This is the first review I’ve ever written, but I had to rave about this dentist. I was referred to her by my dentist (who was off that day) because I had a dental emergency. I had knocked out the crown on my front tooth and needed it quickly re cemented until a new crown can be made. She personally returned my call the same morning and ½ hr later I was in her chair. She was thorough extremely professional and knowledgable and did an excellent job. I would also have her make the new crown but she doesn’t have any open appointments. I highly recommend her!

I found this office through its great Unilocal reviews. I have not been to the dentist in years and was very nervous. I used to hate going to the dentist when i was younger, but after my visit with DDS Cu I am eager for my next visit (I know that might sound strange)
I was very pleases with the office, it was just clean and tidy and I got a good vibe from it. Like I said before, I have not been to a dentist in like 6 years but on my last birthday I decided I better go. She was awesome, and her staff was awesome as well.
Everything was explained to me which i really liked. I knew I wasnt just another client. She took the time to sit and talk to me about a lot of different things, mostly about my oral health, but I could tell she cared about what I had to say.
Ended up that my oral health was in pretty good condition, with the exception of a few cavities… But I got x-​rays, a cleaning and polishing and flossing. I am going back in another week or so to take care of my cavities but I am looking forward to it. I enjoyed coming here and felt like i could tell them if something was hurting or bothering me. I didnt feel pressured to do any procedure. I liked it. I am a new client and if your looking for a new dentist I suggest you give her a try

Really appreciated her holistic approach to determining the «root» cause (pun) of my pain. as we stared at my xray she systematically ruled out possibilities.

I just returned home from getting 2 fillings redone by Dr. Nimi Gill, D.D.S.
I have had 2 appointments in the last 3 months and my fiancé is also a patient. The office has a very neighborhood vibe, which is great because I live right around the corner. The administrative staff and the dental assistants are all very polite and helpful.
Now for my personal review: I travel for work and I am only available for appointments on Fridays. I had a 1.5 hour window to get my 2 fillings redone before having to jump on an important business call. However, close to the deadline, it turned out that my 2^nd filling wasn’t complete because I had a bigger cavity than Dr. Gill originally thought under my 1^st. Despite her busy schedule, Dr. Gill undid all the dental equipment that was strapped around my mouth and waited patiently as I took the call right in her office. I hate doing this type of thing, but Dr. Gill was extremely flexible with her time. When it was all over 50 minutes later, I hopped back in the chair, got some more Novocaine, and Dr. Gill finished the job. I’m so thankful that we didn’t have to reschedule or that I didn’t miss my meeting (I’m a new minion at my firm so missing the call would have been very problematic for me!). Dr. Gill even took the time to make sure the fillings matched up perfectly to my current bite (I’m a grinder so this isn’t the easiest thing). I’m very happy with my experience and I highly recommend Dr. Nimi Gill to anyone coming to this office.

Dr Cu is not in my network because my company has PPO but preventative is 100% for mine so I called in to make an appointment.
Lucky for me, I was able to make an appointment the same day because my schedule is pretty hectic and I never have time to get my check ups. I have been trying to get my teeth cleaned since I moved to the bay a year ago…
Dr Cu and her whole staff was very friendly and informative throughout the whole process. The office is nice, clean, and professional. All of her equipment is new as well.
There are a few things they did that I thought went the extra step when it comes to customer service. The assistant applied Vaseline on my lips without me asking (my lips always crack and bleed during long procedures). When they dyed my plaque they showed me in a mirror so now I know what areas i need to hit more while brushing.
The actual teeth cleaning was fast and painless. Will come back again in 6 months to get them cleaned again.

In one word, Dr. Cu is amazing. And I found her here, so thanks Unilocalers.
I’m usually the type of person that is afraid of going to the dentist, so of course I was nervous on my first appointment with Dr. Cu. In only a couple minutes she was able to calm me down and with her gentle hands and enormous patience she «cured me from past traumas» and I even felt confortable, which is great.
She will explain every step of her work to you and will discuss with you the best options — from cleaning to deeper treatments. Dr. Cu is really professional and friendly, so if you are looking for a new dentist, I totally recommend her.

Warning: Dr. Cu is out-​of-​network for most dental PPO plans.
I noticed that Dr. Dely Young is on my dental insurance plan, so I called to make an appointment. The receptionist told me I should schedule with Dr. Chrystle Cu, her daughter. Having had insurance hurdles before where an out-​of-​network dentist visit was not covered, I told her that I want to see Dr. Young just to be safe. The receptionist told me that for cleaning, my insurance plan covers 100% for an out-​of-​network dentist; it is only with certain dental work that my insurance plan covers a portion if done with an out-​of-​network dentist like Dr. Cu. I trusted her and scheduled a cleaning with Dr. Cu.
When I arrived, after I had parked, waited, and climbed into the chair, Dr. Cu finally tells me that my cleaning visit is *not* covered 100%. The fee I had to pay was minimal, so I went ahead with it because I already took half day of work for this. However, I am disappointed that I got tricked into this, thus the 2 stars off.

Arrived on time for my first appointment with this dentist. She double booked me. She scheduled an «emergency procedure» right before my appointment (which I was told was the first appointment of the day), and it ran over. Way over. I waited for 30 minutes before asking when I will be seen. It was not until then that I was told about the dentist’s previous appointment running over. And at that point, I was told it would be another 15 minutes. I had to get to work so I left.
Parking situation for this office sucks — you have to have quarters on you. The office itself has a tiny waiting area, which is not the cleanest. Maybe she is a good dentist, if you have all the time in the world to wait for her to see you since her time management skills suck. However, I do not, and I don’t appreciate a total lack of consideration for other people’s time.

After being defrauded by our dentist (whom I won’t even bother Unilocaling because all negative reviews on him seem to mysteriously disappear), we decided to switch over to Dr. Cu based on the reviews here on Unilocal.
All I can say is THANKS, Unilocal. I think my husband and I are both happy with our new dentist and her staff.
Dr. Cu was polite and friendly, almost like a friend, but meticulously professional. She’s the first dentist ever to check my blood pressure and take the time to get to know me more personally. Knowing that I was pregnant, she took extra care (no x-​rays) and made sure I was physically comfortable throughout the procedure. My teeth were cleaned and polished with very little pain and discomfort.
Unlike in the case of our previous dentist (who actually tried to make us pay BEFORE even making our appointments), we can fully trust Dr. Cu and her office staff.
Lastly, we’re happy to learn that her hours have been recently extended. We look forward to seeing her again in a few months!
