Chesapeake Point Apartments

Walls are paper thin. You can hear neighbors conversations, music… all the time.
Not pleasant if you prefer quiet.

I looked at Chesapeake Point a few weeks ago as I was interested in one of the townhomes. We stopped by on a whim and Danielle was happy to show us the home even though they stop showing them 5pm and we arrived at 5:15pm. Danielle was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions I had. She was kind enough to look through to find out that a home was going to be available at my requested time. Danielle has gone beyond and above any leasing agent I have worked with. She has stayed in touch with me via email since my initial visit and even sent me pictures of the home, as it was a little different than the one I originally looked at. Although I am not a tenant yet, her customer service is something to be noted. She has been a pleasure to work with.

I’ve been living here the last 3 years and haven’t had really any issues besides the living room window not being properly sealed after they changed it. We didn’t know it wasn’t properly sealed until the rain was beating against it and it started leaking.
Other than that this place isn’t all the bad. The parking spots are super small and compact, but at least you have options of paying for a spot if you want it. There’s a nice walking path around the property. I love being next to the water. I also like that we have access to a backyard patio in our two story townhouse. It’s such an upgrade from the hole in the wall at Harbor Cove.
I’m not sure why people hated this place so much. At any complex you risk packages being stolen and yes even in a gated community. There are bad people everywhere so don’t let the gate give you some sense of security. There are worst places to rent than this awesome community.
I’ve enjoyed all 3 years so far and I look forward to sticking around as long as the rent doesn’t get too much higher than it already is.

As a long time resident and someone who has lived in many apartment complexes, I can truly say that I truly enjoy living here. The location is very convenient to freeways, shopping, parks, etc.
The current manager, Kevin, is the best property manager this place has seen in 15 years. He takes the extra mile to get to know the residents and has really built a sense of community among neighbors.
The property is pet-​friendly and there’s a lot of places in the nearby vicinity to walk your dogs.
This is a great place to live on the Peninsula!

Having recently gone through the apartment hunting process I can say that Chesapeake is the biggest bang-​for-​your-​buck in the San Mateo and surrounding areas. Relative to other communities, it is on the lower end of the price range, and higher end of the quality range.
What I like: The upgrades are really nice, the townhomes have lots of square footage, the neighbors are friendly, management goes out of their way for you, the land/​water outside is BEAUTIFUL. We were not able to find this combination at a comparable price anywhere else in the area. You can find «upgraded» complexes nearby but they are all tiny.
I am reading some of these other reviews here and I’m a bit shocked, but I know that this community has undergone changes in management. I cannot speak to Chesapeake in the past, but I have no hesitation giving 5 stars in the present.

i wish i had read the reviews listed here before i moved in. where do i begin? run. don’t rent.
there is a saying, «you get what you pay for», well forget it. that does not apply here. you will pay, but you will get nothing. i had all my christmas packages stolen from my front door (gated community mind you). my favorite twist; management knew about it, and never reported it to the police or me! instead, they told me it was my fault! and they actually had my empty packages in their office!!! fantastic! i’m sorry, this is not compton. i should be able to order packages in a gated community without worrying that anyone, including the management, stole it. maybe i’m asking too much. next…
my shower does not drain. it never has. so i asked to have it fixed… in asking for assistance at all, i have been punished, i take full blame and i have learned my lesson.
i got an email stating that they fixed it. but, because nobody understood how scheduling works, and by that i mean we mutually choose a date and time (real rocket science stuff), somebody actually came into my home whenever they wanted. fantastic! then, like true professionals, in the name of customer service, send me an email stating it! brilliant!!!
here comes my very favorite part… then, when i got upset that they came in my house without permission (hey, isn’t that illegal??) they suddenly remembered that they never came in my house or fixed my drain at all (i feel much better). all of a sudden! they just lied about ever fixing my drain. wow! i wish we could all revamp our confessions after submitting them. you know? just kinda play it by ear. whatever sounds less illegal at the time. wouldn’t that be awesome?! either way, neither scenario is what i would call managerial excellence or even coherence.
with all these problems, i didn’t feel safe here, and wanted to move. i also felt, due to the circumstances, that i should not have to pay $ 5000 to get out of the leas. (since they were the ones who broke it in the first place by entering my house without permission!) you would think they would take this offer of moving out happily after so bluntly breaking the law. i had to call corporate to try to get anywhere. and they blew me off. anybody know a good lawyer? if i had more time on my hands i would pursue this in court. but i need to go to work to pay the grossly overpriced rent here. hope my stuff is still there when i get home from work. if it isn’t, i guess i can take another shower/​bath to relieve the stress.

awful residents-​some look like they just got out of prison. Over priced rentals.
Cheap fixtures.
Unresponsive management.

Living here for about 3 years, finally I can change to 5 stars.
The community had management issues before, resulting in crazy problems, excess of bureaucracy and unsatisfied neighbors.
Since the new manager, Kevin, started, everything changes. We was able to see and feel the improvements, clean and modern property, social events with awesome food, drinks. A really nice environment.
The renovations are changing this property to a new level.
Still have some space to improve, mainly in the polices and procedures, but they are going to the right path.
Recommended.

I’ve had a wonderful experience living at Chesapeake over the past 15 months. The homes are beautiful and newly renovated and are leased for a decent price for the area. I moved into the complex under a different management that is there today and was not super impressed by them. However, the new management has gone above and beyond to create a great community. Not only are they very attentive to any issues that come up in my residence, the management is always open for a friendly chat. Kevin, Kevin, Darcy, and Juan have a created a great community that I call home. I would definitely recommend Chesapeake Point!

I rented a townhouse in this community as a temporary place to stay for 5 months.
I got a really nicely renovated apartment with all new kitchen and appliances.
I would give this place 4.5-stars if I didn’t have to feel like the management is out to get me on every little thing.
At first, about a month after we moved in, they told us that because we made a mistake in the application form (that they could easily spot if they went over it properly), they need to run our application again and we need to pay the application fee again. After I insisted not to pay for the application again they gave up.
Now that there are 2 weeks left to our contract, we find out that the contract states that unless we give a written notice of 30 days in advance, we will have to continue paying rent until someone else moves in. I know it was stupid of me not to read the contract, but I expect them to have the courtesy of making sure that people remember to notify them on time.
I sure hope I’ll be able to get some of my deposit back, they already told me it’ll cost $ 270 to clean the apartment…

This little community is a hidden gem. It is a gated community of townhouse style apartments surrounded by a beautiful lagoon. It is both children and pet friendly (even larger dogs are welcomed) and has a definite sense of community with residents looking after each other and chatting it up in the evenings after work. The property manager Kevin Margolin– Brinker is always onsite, is incredibly responsive and truly goes out of his way to make certain everyone feels welcome. I really appreciate being able to live somewhere that is in great proximity to all of the major freeways, close to two airports and that happens to be incredibly safe. Having the extra benefit of lovely neighbors and an attentive property manager makes it even better.

As a longtime resident of Chesapeake Point Apts, I have witnessed several transitions in both ownership and management. of this complex I am pleased to report that the current management team is doing a great job. Because this location is ideal, I have remained a resident through several less than satisfactory ownership and management changes, The current owners have authorized much needed improvements that started under the last manager’s watch. The current team of Kevin and Kevin are knowledgeable, skilled, personable and dedicated to making these improvements and upgrades to the property including lighting on the pathway, badly needed window replacements, remodeling of units as they are vacated and improvemetns in the landscaping throughout the property.
The grounds are well-​maintained with grassy areas, water views, lighted walking paths, an exercise room with TV and water view, a heated pool and hot tub .
i am pleased to be in this beautiful community and have had reasonable responses to request for services. Check it out yourself!

I would give this complex a 0 star rating if possible.
1) I lived there for 2years and 9months (lived in 1732B… this is important information as you continue reading this review)
2) My neighbors in 1732A had continuous bedbug problems. The units are 2 – 3 bedrooms and 1732A regularly has more than 10 people living there (very crowded and very noisy in 1732 as a result). As for the bedbugs, because the unit was over crowded and they couldn’t get rid of the bugs, a professional extermination company told me that I should never use my outlets or my heater (yes, b/​c 1732A and B share a wall, you’re supposed to seal all vents and outlets that are attached to the common wall to ensure the bedbugs don’t migrate). Please not that 1732A’s bedbugs did migrate into 1720. The residents in 1720 were so infested they had to move out.
3) the raw sewage from 1732A back flows into 1732B. That’s right, you get your neighbor’s sink, toilet, and shower drain backages draining into your apt if you live in 1732B!
4) there is a broken sewage pipe behind 1732B. The broken pipe regularly floods 1732B’s back patio with raw sewage.
5) 1732A has rats/​mice. You can hear them in the shared wall and once in a while you see a rat come through the laundry room wall (shared wall with 1732A that is not sealed at the bottom… perfect for rodent migration!)
6) the bathroom vents share a ventilation tract with 1732A. Everything that 1732A does in their bathroom is vented into 1732B’s apt. This includes all perfumes, air fresheners, etc. If you have any allergies to fragrances, you’re screwed.
7) management never answers the phone and never returns messages. I filed online and phone complaints about the problems routinely. Generally, management said it wasn’t their problem if they even bothered to respond to the compaints at all.
8) there was one good manager, Erin. However, she left. (note, management rotates regularly). As an example, one manager, Jennifer, responded to my complaint about raw sewage filling up my back patio. Jennifer kindly came with a broom to sweep the raw sewage around. She then declared it to be clean.
9) they charge a $ 25/​mo for parking and don’t patrol the parking lot to keep people from parking you assigned (paid for) spaces.
10) they don’t return your deposit when you move out and they don’t return your calls when you inquire about your deposit. (admittedly, I expected nothing less from them)
11) maintenance is horrible. Granted, it appears that they hired a new maintenance supervisor when I moved out and he seemed great. That being said, my experience for over 2 ½ years was that they didn’t fix anything.
12) rent goes up a lot every year. This actually isn’t a huge complaint for me. I lived there because it was convenient for work and I work really long hours which made it horribly inconvenient to move. That being said, expect to see a $ 300-​$ 500 rent increase per year. If you’re on a budget and want to stay more than 1 year, make sure you can afford a heafty increase for year 2.
13) they don’t monitor the number of people in each unit (as evidenced from point no. 2 above). As a result, if you’re a single person living in the complex, you pay more than your share for water, sewage, and garbage (and you get the raw sewage in your apt so it’s ironic they are charging you for sewage). I lived alone in the apt and my water/​sewage/​garbage bill was well over $ 100 a month. This is just a warning so you know what to expect in terms of additional monthly payments.
As for the benefits: spacious, granite, stainless.
I wouldn’t move back in a million years. For the price, the complex should hire managers who, at the least, return your phone calls and/​or answer the phone!

So we moved from out east and rented an apartment here sight unseen all via the Internet. That process couldn’t have gone smoother and the apartment was nice and sunny with a lot of windows and view of the water. The management team was a lot better 2 years ago then it is today.
Pros:
— Gated community
— Reserved parking
— nice water views
— nice to walk around
— very open
— maintenance staff is great
Cons:
— horrible old 1960 windows. If you are on the side of route 92 expect to hear traffic noise.
— The apartments aren’t insulated at all on the roof or there is a big lack of it. If you are on the 2^nd floor and face the west, expect very hot apartment when the hotter weather comes through.
— They hardly clean the outsides of the apartment. There is mold growing all over where it’s shady. Also spider webs all over the place
— You can almost hear your neighbors have conversations due to thin walls.
— parking sucks for visitors.
— No one seems to care about their dogs barking at everything that moves outside
— The hot tub almost always has to be drained for un-​known reasons every 3 months.
— There are utility holes on the property that either have broken covers or none at all. beware kids.
— Beware some units have young kids who throw parties on a monthly basis.
So here’s the main reason I gave it one star and it’s mainly due to my last few months here. I would have given it 3 maybe if my move out went smoother.
Things started when they changed property managers again (seems to happen yearly here). My sink clogged on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. I called the emergency number 3 times every hour and left messages. Around 5 I said screw this and fixed the problem myself.
You have to give 30 days notice here to end your lease which I tried to do 7 times and still to this day (3 days before my lease is up), I have never signed a single thing. I called and stopped in the office in persion around 7 – 8 times to try to schedule a walk through and never got one because the property manager kept forgetting and his excuse was always «I’m new and over whelmed and trying to make things better».
I’ve complained around 20 times about the stairway railing has completely rotted away and exposing a rusted out nail that has never gotten fixed.
I tried to call 6 times to find out what my final bill was and never heard a word from the property manager. I had to call the corporate office to finally get my bill.
Right now I’d recommend anyone to stay away unless you have a dog and are desperate for housing in San Mateo. I believe as of writing this that an updated 2 bedroom apartment here is renting for like $ 3100 which is insane in my opinion for what they offer.

DO NOT MOVE HERE. i HATE it here. I have lived here for almost a year and there problems after problems.
Sure everything looks nice from the outside, but as soon as you move in. Everything starts falling apart. I live in a remodeled 3 bedroom. Everything is obviously done half-​a**.
Refrigerator/​freezer has stopped working several times. Bath tub lining ruined. FREEZING cold air seeps through EVERY window in the house and management «cant do anything about the old window» pg&e prices sky rocket from using our heater in the winter.
Management sucks. They are all stupid and have no idea what they are doing. They never compromise and never follow up.
Maintenence is the BEST. All very nice guys and get things done if you tell them personally because if you just tell the front desk, things wont get done for over a week.
My fence was falling apart took 8 months for them to put a new one, nails coming out everywhere. VERY unsafe.
If you turn in a check late the charge is $ 50. All of a sudden they tried to charge $ 150. what BS. The corporate offices are also horrible. They DO NOT help with anything. and pretend they lost your number or never got your call. again what bs.
Not to mention that a very large object fell on my head, cracked my head open, blood everywhere and was rushed to ER. Corporate said «things happen, things fall apart in any home…»
Go figure!

Don’t move here.
I have lived here for over two years and my rent has consistently raised every year. I’m ok with small rent increases but in the past two years my rent has increased over $ 500.
This place is just ridiculous with their no smoking policy and other weird rules. Yesterday was the last straw. The owner has decided to change all of the common parking spots to rental.
Now I have to pay an extra $ 25 dollars a month if i want to park my car. What happens if I have a guest? Do I need to rent a spot for my guests now too?
Stay far away from this place unless you don’t mind being taken for.

The place is ok, all right. Having said that, their management is the worst possible. I was never a resident, it was a positive outcome. They made us set up PG&E and pay for renter’s insurance stating our place was approved and at the end it was the opposite. They held our deposit money, although lease was not signed and it was a hassle to get it back. I ended up responsible for bills for a place I never moved into and nobody returns your calls. Staff has no clue on how to run the business. Not a pleasant experience after all…

We lived at Chesapeake point for just under 5 years and saw 3 property managers work through the place. The last manager, Ryan, is by far the poorest excuse for a property manager that I have ever encountered.
First — the good. We were VERY lucky that our apartment was in a corner location with a water view. It never got hot inside — even when temps reached around 90 outside. Lucky us!
That is where the luck stops. I will just share our last few experiences right before we moved out of state. They had the carports painted and we were told to stay out until 10:00 at night. We got home around midnight and parked in our spot. The next morning, our car was covered in paint from water that had formed on the eves and caused the paint to drip. We took it to the car wash and were lucky to get most of the paint off. We took it to the office and pointed out several spots that did not come off. Ryan assured us they would pay to have the problem fixed and then took some pics with his camera phone. We ended up getting two estimates and they refused to pay. They said the paint company was at fault. We contacted the paint company and they said they had told the apartment complex that it was possible that condensation could cause issues and they would not accept responsibility. This is over a $ 400 bill. We had to move out of state and there has been no resolution. What more, Ryan acts like he never said they were responsible.
Next, my husband ran in to a sign that they had mounted on the walkway up to the office door. It is a thin metal sign and you can’t see the sign when the sun is setting because of glare. My husband ended up at the emergency room with a nice gash that almost took out an eye. Ryan ounce again said they would cover the medical and even mentioned he didn’t want the sign mounted there. Well, when push came to shove he again said they were not responsible. We pushed and they did consult their lawyers and they ended up paying one bill but it was nothing but a headache. We were also hit with another bill that came from the hospital and I just can’t wait to try to get that resolved.
Bottom line — this is a poorly run apartment complex with management that is unresponsive. Not too mention Ryan is rarely in the office during posted hours and some days the office is not open at all.
I won’t even go in to general parking issues, theft issues and sound issues between the apartments.
I would think very seriously before renting here and if Ryan is still the property manager, I would REALLY think about the decision and how much headache you want to endure.

This is a fantastic community in San Mateo. Especially if you have dogs that like to walk. There’s a lot of grass, two doggy stations with plastic bags, and it feels very safe, even at night. The walkway around the complex is very nice; it runs along the water.
There are not a zillion apartments and there’s a lot of open space so you don’t feel totally crammed. The homes have lots of windows and most have been updated with really nice features. Ours had wood floors, granite counters, and brand new appliances.
The cons: limited parking at night. You get one covered spot assigned to you and you’re on your own when the community is full. Usually it’s not too bad but evenings can be difficult.
Also, the windows are extremely thin, so on the handful of really hot days, your apartment gets really hot too.
Juan is one of the maintenance people – extremely nice and fixes your problems quickly.

What ever you do stay away from renting a place from Prometheus Real Estate Group. We live in a 3 bedroom apartment and all I can say for this place is drama. For more than a year things have taken a toll on our apartment from mold, over flowing toilets, and our oven not working. The best part is the lack of service from our property manager Ryan in getting someone out to fix the issues.
What broke the camels back is now for over a year they have parking spots being taken up by working binds and if you are looking for a spot to after 7 park forget it… Most of the time you will need to park outside the gate and recently they have been towing peoples cars without notice for parking in front of binds as I’m prime example of a recent tow.
The company has not given notice saying you can not park in front of the binds as my car was towed and we confronted Ryan the property manager which he stated he had no clue people were parking in front of the binds and stated my car had a citation put on it., we asked for proof of this citation for some reason it took him over a week to get back with us saying he could not get a copy. Then we protest our frustration with the Project Manager Jill and after over two weeks of back and forth via email her comments were go to the tow company and get our money back.
Hello Idiot you are the one that had my car towed not the towing company…
Whatever you do run from this place as it will be one of the worst years of your living experience…
