Creekview Vineyards

They are only open the 3^rd Saturday of every month but I’m glad we were able to visit and taste the wines. I came here with a group of friends and we enjoyed our time here. The owners are super friendly and quite generous with their pours :).

Went to the San Jose tasting room on 4^th of July with family visiting from out of town. The gentleman who helped us was very nice and poured a couple of things that weren’t on their tasting room menu. He also paired most of the wines with different chocolates, which really added to our enjoyment of the wines! We purchased the tawny dessert wine, two Bordeaux blends (Melodious and Trilogy) and a Syrah. Very pleasant experience all the way around! Would recommend to anyone who happens to be in downtown San Jose and wants to try some good wine!

Stopped in for a tasting after a recent hike. Open only the third weekend every month, this is a fun winery to visit making solid wines in a small, boutique setting.

«Winemakers Gregory and Teri Peterson have been passionate about wine for over 25 years. Establishing a love for winemaking back in their late teens, the two continued to make wines for friends and family over the years. Beginning with 10 vines in the small backyard of their San Jose home, the two hoped they could eventually plant a larger vineyard. It was in 2000 when the two moved with their daughters, Sarah and Crystal to a beautiful ranchette in San Martin. From here the two attended vineyard management classes at UC Davis and started planting small blocks of vines on the property. The Peterson’s then started entering their wines into competitions and consistently received awards including, double gold, gold, silver and bronze. The overwhelming feedback they received influenced them to bond their winery in 2005.»
I tasted with one of the principals and what was interesting was having a conversation about the less glamorous side of owning a small winery. They both have day jobs and then do winery business on the side. As a farmer of course there is no break. But they love what they do and it shows in their enthusiasm.
I tasted 7 wines for 7 dollars. Although known for their reds, the two whites were excellent: A Sauv Blanc and Chardonnay both from Monterey. The Reds were a mixed bag. Given the heat in this area, Santa Clara Valley producers sometimes push the envelope too much in terms of alcohol and sweetness. The 2009 Zin for instance is a whopping 17.1% alcohol! That’s a tiring wine to drink.
I preferred the 2010 Cabernet which was more balanced and comes in at only 12.9%. The Melodious Bordeaux Blend (Cabernet 37%, Malbec 23%, Cabernet Franc 15%, Merlot 15%. Petit Verdot 10%) was also excellent, balanced and not a chore to drink with 13.5% alcohol.
A solid winery with fun people, beautiful shady grounds to taste and sometimes live music too. I recommend you visit as well :)
