Secure Roofing and Solar

Great experience, they got the job done quick. Had a few communication issues with office but that was resolved. Overall great experience.

A year ago I had Secure Roofing and Solar install a new roof and panels.
My roof still looks amazing. They also installed new siding and storm drains. They have held up very well and drain the rain away from my house properly.
A few weeks ago I used the website they provide to check on how well my panels were doing and I noticed they were producing less than I expected. I made a note that I needed to call Secure and have them look at them. The next day (without me calling) I received a call from Secure stating they noticed my panels weren’t producing as much as they should and they’d like to come out and fix them. They fixed them that day!
Amazing customer service. I highly recommend them.

Secure did a lot of work for us. We interviewed 5 different solar companies, and decided to go with Dave and his team.
We had a new roof and solar panels installed, vinyl window replacements, a skylight and a room addition, In the end, we are very pleased with everything, however there were several bumps along the road most of which could easily be rectified with, I believe, some simple changes in process. I’d love to give Solar 4.5 stars, because it was better than a 4, but not quite a 5 star experience. But since I can’t, I have to go with 4.
Pros:
1. LOVE the solar panel installation. Instead of installing the panels on top of the tile roof as is usual, they removed the tiles, replaced that area with shingles and installed the panels flush with the tiles. The result is a very clean, streamlined look. It’s hard to tell we even have solar panels! And getting those negative SDGE bills is pretty awesome.
2. Love that I don’t have to worry about my roof for the next 50 years — and it was a great deal. Also the fact that Secure is a roofing company first was very important to me — I didn’t want Joe-​Blow Solar Guy drilling holes into my roof!
3. Tony headed up the room-​addition work and did an amazing job! He is a true craftsman. The finish work was so well-​done, the room looks like it’s always been there.
4. Tarey (the project manager for everything except Solar), was responsive and always available to answer any questions. He promised to have the room done before my son’s birthday party, and they met the deadline.
5. Dave worked with us on the pricing and financing of the various jobs, and we feel that we got a very fair price. We are very happy that we were able to get everything done with one company.
6. Everyone I spoke to in the office was very nice and pleasant. They handled all the permitting, HOA approval and PACE financing efficiently.
Now for the Cons (and as a business owner myself, I’m going to offer suggestions for improvement, which hopefully they take as intended):
1. Secure needs a much better system for scheduling the solar install and communicating the steps of the turn up along the way. I called to ask how the permitting and approval process was going and ended up in a frustrating «who’s on first» conversation — turned out it was scheduled for the next day, but no one had told me. There were several other instances where confusion resulted, primarily due to a lack of communication. I think simply providing a timeline with a checklist would set expectations and alleviate most of this.
2. As professional and clean as Tony and his team was, the window installers were the exact opposite. I had to ask them to remove the labels and clean the windows, there were vinyl shavings everywhere, they left dirty footprints throughout the house, several of the windows wouldn’t close because of paper jammed in the rail, and I had to request that they come back to paint the caulking on the outside. Basically they didn’t finish the job without prodding. Also, I wish that I had done a little more research on the vinyl windows before agreeing to the brand and type that was recommended. Had I seen a sample, I would have paid a little more for a better window. But they are such an improvement over what I had, I can’t complain too much.
3. As much as they need a better scheduling system, they need vast improvement in their invoicing process. About two weeks after everything was done, I sent an email requesting the final paperwork (contract with warranties, an invoice for additional work we had done, etc). You would think that since I was requesting an invoice, essentially saying ‘I owe you money’, they would be right on top of that. But nope. I had to ask at least twice more. And when I finally received the invoice a month later, was told «Your warranty paperwork is on hold until the additional charges are paid. Were you aware of the additional charges?» SAY WHA?! The top of my head nearly blew off.
4. The roof replacement took longer than anticipated, and there were a few times I found roofing nails in the driveway or yard.
5. This one is minor, but a little annoying: Part of their marketing pitch is that you get a «Free roof». Technically, they replace the part of the roof under the solar panels, and then you can get the rest of it done for an additional charge. But who wants only part of their roof replaced? I understand it’s marketing, and it turns out to be a great value, but there was a moment when I said «Wait a minute, how come I didn’t get a free roof? I paid for it, didn’t I?». But hey, it obviously works.
Overall, I would highly recommend Secure Roofing and Solar (and I have). Despite the bumps, in the end, we are happy customers.

Dave and his team did a great job installing our new solar. The installers were fast and picked up after themselves leaving no nails, or other debris behind. We were left with a shiny solar unit that consistently brings our electric bill negative or significantly below our normal cost each month.
Shortly after we moved into the house, our roof had a big leak. One of our biggest fears was that we were having solar units installed and our brand new roof would leak again. After two years of big rain, our roof is sealed tight as the day it was put on. Secure knows roofing! I wish we had used them to install the new roof and solar. I would definitely recommend them for roofing and solar.

Secure Roofing and Solar responded quickly to my request for repair. The crew sent out were hard working and very professional. The repairs were made quickly and properly. I highly recommend this company for roofing or solar needs.

I’ve had my solar system installed about 15 months ago and am pleased with the results. Not only from the benefits of the system itself, but the quality of the products used and the workmanship involved in the installation.
I had referred Dave to 2 other neighbors on my block who also installed solar through Secure.

We had solar attic fans placed by Secure Roofing and Solar. Unfortunately, due to manufacture related problems, the fans were making a lot of noise for us. However, Secure Roofing never gave up on us, they came back and made adjustments and eventually replaced the fans with a much better and quieter model. We are extremely pleased and appreciated the great service.

Secure Roof and Solar did my roof lift & relay and installed brand new 6.3KW solar system on my tile roof. I had minor water leak from my 30 years old roof into garage. The problem was fixed and dry now. It proved by three heavy rain storms. The Secure price was highly competitive compared to my five other quotes. Plus Secure gave customer (me) free high pressure whole roof wash and free professional window cleaning. The Secure crew was very polite and cleaned the area everyday before they left. Secure did professional solar installation on my roof after lift & relay completed. The solar installation was fast and up to run now. I received my first SDGE net metering electric bill on November, which was $ 6 compared to recent $ 300 bill. I was happy same company did roof and solar of my house and I got it. I’m happy with David Massey’s service attitude and commitment. I highly recommended to give them a call and talk to your project !!!

We also used Secure Roofing and Solar and got a great deal on a new roof and a large solar system. The roof is awesome! They are asphalt shingles with really nice depth and color variation and they have a 50 year warranty! And we love the ridge vent (replaced the attic fans). It works fantastically with our whole house fan. They were so thorough scraping all the old roofs off and repairing the wood planks. The roofers were all really nice guys too. Our SDGE bill went from 300+ to 5 per month and we have a 50 year roof. We couldn’t be happier. They also have really easy financing option if you need it.

After researching several solar companies and getting 8 quotes I decided to go with Secure Roofing and Solar and couldn’t be happier. I ultimately chose them because I trusted the way they installed the panels onto a tile roof. The entire process took less than a week and the customer service was great! They also continue to monitor the solar panels after installation to make sure everything runs as it should and will immediately send someone out if there is a problem (which there has yet to be any). I highly recommend them.

Dave’s guys, Tony and Oscar, completely remodeled our home before we moved in. Everything from paint, wood flooring, wiring new lighting, plumbing for bathroom make overs… everything! They did an amazing job and two years later, everything is still perfect. They converted one bathroom into a stand up shower and even built out the back yard completely with sprinklers, pavers, grass and a natural gas fire pit. Literally everything they did was perfect.

We contacted Secure Roofing & Solar to get a much needed new roof. We saw the promotion of free roof with the purchase of solar. We thought there had to be a catch. So we listened to there pitch & did some research. We decided it was a good deal. Their team of workers are very professional & there products & workmanship are TOP NOTCH. They re roofed & added solar to our home & we couldn’t be more happy with them & their employees. This is a very well run & respected business. We have recommended them to all our friends.

I chose Secure Roofing for a couple of reasons. My roofing was badly in need of repair and Secure Roofing advertised a free roof repair with the installation of a solar system. Also, I was impressed by and trusted my sales consultant, Dave. Actually I was very pleased with everyone at Secure Roofing from the workers on site to the office staff. They all did an excellent job. The icing on the cake was the absolutely flawless job they did in repairing the two large holes in the ceiling caused by water damage. It was perfection!

My brother in law used Secure Home Improvement when he had to replace his roof. I went to SHI to inquire about getting a solar system installed for my home. They had a promotion going for a free roof with the solar and it just so happens it was about time for a new roof as well.
The roof and solar have been installed and I am extremely pleased. What I was most impressed with is how clean the work area was after. At the end of the day they would make sure the area was presentable and at the end of the job they cleaned this up nicely.
Dave and Doug were a pleasure to work with I continued working with them after the initial project for some additional work that needed to be done. I am currently in the middle of two more projects and so far things are going well.
I would recommend SHI not only for roof and solar, but also any work that you may need.

I’ve known Dave and Secure for years. I’ve seen the work and heard the comments of customers many many times and it is always very positive. Definitely 5 Stars!
