San Elijo Park and Recreation Center

It is a beautiful area here with a wonderful recreation park including a nice dog park, flowing into the town square. The square itself is very attractive with a fountain as centerpiece. It is frequently used for wedding photo’s and the like but less so recently since the fountain is empty and not in use — perhaps due to a combination of water restrictions plus the fact that kids (presumably) seemed to enjoy adding soap to it!
Two things spoil the square:
The ugly eyesore of a vacant lot in the center (apparently for 10 years) and secondly the fact that the police and city of San Marcos won’t or can’t control traffic here (25mph pedestrian zone) with cars routinely coming through at 40, 50, 60 mph and more! This essentially ruins life here because it is so deadly — especially given all the kids and schools (a third being completed for 2015 – 16 school year). Deadly
Now the local citizens group seems to think that THEY have to keep control of the traffic speeds by driving though the area at 25 like «pace cars» forcing others to do the same or hit them. Crazy!!! See the pic! I guess that they cannot spell R-​O-​A-​D R-​A-​G-​E !!!

I had never heard or had been to this park before, until recently for a little birthday party. i loved it, very clean and nice park, its located in a nice area. The kiddos loved it, there was lots of shade around the playground area, which made it even better! The parking is kinda small so when we went it was full, but other than that is a great park!

Great location. Always lots of parking. Large park with many outlets to use for multiple purpose, dog park area, kids playground, and even a water area for kids. I visit this park weekly and it is always clean and kept up well.

Love their movie in the park night. It’s held on the lower softball field. Very family friendly– 4 different types of bounce houses, a velcro wall, some food trucks… just a ton of fun.
Movie starts are dusk and last time, it was «The Lego Movie». Kids had a great time.
Bring some food, some chairs, and camp out. Oh, and you’ll need a sweatshirt. It gets cold about 10 minutes into the movie!

My kids love this park! This park is well maintained, beautiful, and so much fun to visit. The splashpad is always fun. My kids love the playgrounds, each perfect for their age. They also love the sandbox with the toys the park provides. The playgrounds are covered, so it’s great to play there on sunny days. Mom tip– Make sure to locate the bathrooms here before your kids start playing!

San Elijo Hills is a beautiful, upscale and super family-​friendly neighborhood in North County. I still live in North County although I’m not in the neighborhood anymore, but I still love bringing my dog for walks here! There’s plentiful street parking along both sides of the roads as well as parking lots close to the sports fields.
Why Go:
+ Doggy bag dispensers!!! Love the convenience :)
+ Plenty of trash cans… LOVE that feature anywhere I bring my dog, because I’d rather throw away his doggy bag soon than have to carry it around for an hour until we get back from our walk
+ Plenty of grassy areas. There are the grassy spaces in the town square, where the tables, chairs and water fountain are at. And more grassy spaces as you get closer to the sports fields!
+ Can tell the neighborhood is super well-​maintained. It feels very clean

This Park and Recreation Center is the freakin’ coolest I’ve ever seen! Its on a hillside and they have everything you can think of!
We took our pooch to the Dog Park near by and my son and I decided to go check out the Park and I’m so glad I did, first of all this place is truly a hidden gem unless you live back up here and know where your going. I of coarse had no clue this little part of San Marcos existed as it does today. I remember this area being strictly a two lane road and just mountains surrounding you back in the day on your way to Questhaven… Oh was that along long time ago!
Any-​who back to this beautiful park, they of a Recreation Center, 2 playgrounds, Picnic areas, Horseshoe pits (something every guy just loves to play, I guess the thought of them throwing the shoe and getting a ringer makes them a bit more manly but who knows… lol), 3 lighted ball fields, Trails, The Dog Park above it all and last but not least my favorite part of the park is the Water «Sprayground» how freakin’ cool is that!!! You touch this pole and water spouts from the ground and sprays straight up in the air, my favorite one was the fuzzy sprayer it just kinda mists you. Why couldn’t they have this kind of stuff when I was a kid do you know how much fun that would of been!!! The playground was cool my son had a blast I even let him play a bit with the Sprayground even though it was overcast and ugly yesterday. I had so much fun and can’t wait to take him back when its a nice sunny hot day!
Maybe just maybe ill have to host a B-​day party at this park one year, who knows but talk about an upgraded nice park anybody can go there and feel like a kid again I know I did…:)
