Established in 1998.

Paulo Fernando founded Ssan Diego Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in 1998 when he arrived in San Diego. He has been teaching the San Diego Community for the last 12 years

— 2000 to 2003 Mr. Fernando was the head coach for the Marine Corps in Camp Pendleton

PAULO FERNANDO AUGUSTO

Paulo Augusto was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1970. When he was only five years old Paulo saw a judo class at the YMCA and asked his mom to sign him up. Soon Paulo’s older brother, Carlos, and sister, Valeria, were practicing Judo as well. Paulo, the youngest of the three, loved going to judo classes and has never stopped.

Jiu-​Jitsu Becomes New Passion Paulo’s love for the «Gentle art» led to quick success. He received his first-​degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu in 1991 from Masters Otavio de Almeida Jr. and Roberto Moreira Lage. The second degree followed in 1998, 3rd degree in 2002 and his 4th degree black belt from Carlson Gracie Senior November, 2005. Mr. Augusto, won several local, State and National Tournaments as well. From 1986 to 1997 Paulo was BJJ Sao Paulo State champion for 6 years, successfully competed in the prestigious 2nd and 4th Pan American Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu tournaments and, 1997 world Brazilian jiu-​jitsu tournament
